Susan Elizabeth Phillips was born on the 11th of December,1948, in Cincinnati, Ohio. She is a United States romance novelist. She was a high school teacher becoming a writer. Susan and her husband were readers, which motivated them to sit one day and write a book which to them three weeks. Their first book together was Copeland bride, which they published in 1984. BREATHING ROOM is about a woman, Dr. Isabel Favor, an ambitious diva who spent her precious time building a self-help empire only to come crashing on her feet, and she needs a space to rebuild her reputation.
The book has a colorful pink cover. There is a lady in-car driving away. The cover related well with the title as it shows a woman driving away to find a place of rest and get away from the craziness of the city. The novel shows disappointments and frustrations met by this woman. It’s sad how everything she ever worked for comes down her love life, reputation, and her empire, which was her career. The story starts in American and ends up in Italy, where Dr. Isabel runs when she finds out she cannot fix her own life even after trying to fix everyone else’s life. There is the theme of betrayal where Isabel Favor is betrayed by her fiancé, who breaks up with her and weds another woman a few months before the wedding dates. She is declared as a fraud as her manager plays tricks with her bank accounts. This book presents love as we see Dr. Isabel is in love with……. at the beginning of this book. Isabel moves to Italy and meets Lorenzo Gage, a wicked star who comes to Italy to recover from the suicide of his girlfriend, and they fall in love. Loss has been portrayed a handful of times in this book. Dr. Isabel loses her fiancé to another woman, her career, and her reputation. Lorenzo losses his girlfriend as she commits suicide. Isabel leaves America to find a breathing space only to fall in love with a rapist, kidnapper, and killer. Lorenzo, in another name Ren, is an actor and kills on the screen.
The book is poetic, which makes it adventurous for every reader. There is the use of similes, metaphors, and sayings. The novel has a good flow of American English, making it easy for all readers. The plot and the subplots of this novel keep the reader glued to the end. The story unfolds in a systematic and orderly manner. The book builds readers’ anxiety with their fingers aching to peruse the next page.
You don’t want to spend your short life reading depressing books. Anyone who wants to get lost in a good book BREATHING ROOM is the call. The book is about restoration and hope for acceptance and redemption while it is most needed.
