Booker T Washington was a slave and then became a free man. He was born of a white man and a slave mother. This is what shaped the rest of his life. His most focus in life was overcoming the barriers he experienced as a slave’s son and a white father. This made education his primary priority. At Hampton Institute, Washington relentlessly struggled to get an education. Booker T Washingtonkept developing his knowledge base, and finally, he was known for dedicating his education to teaching vocational training instead of liberal arts education.  However, the fight for social equality and economic security, Washington believed that education and industrial jobs were essential for the black community than arts or history education.  Booker T Washington, therefore, urged the black community to strengthen their economic development before they would focus on securing social equality throughout the country. Beside his stand and urge to the black community, not every person took his idea. One of the knowns opposes of Booker T Washington was W.E.B Du Bois. Du Bois’ assertion was very strong that the assertions managed to sway many people to think like him.

To Du Bois, Booker’s perspective was placing civil rights and education on the back burner. Rather, Du Bois thought that Booker was assuming the black community all across America focus on the doubtful adoption of white conservatives and economic chances. The best solution to Du Bois was seeking equality and valuable knowledge. He, therefore, emphasized the importance of his ideas- looking for equality and valuable knowledge. W.E.B Du Bois specifically became familiar with Southern racial practices at Fisk University in Tennessee since he was born in Massachusetts. He experienced more racism practices at Harvard University, pursuing a doctorate. After experiencing more racism, he started to take part in racial protests shortly after joining the University of Berlin. By the time Du Bois started participating in racial protests, he was famous as a discerned scholar and author..

Although Du Bois was taking part in racial protests, hisexperiencesaroused him to vigorously deal with the problem of rights of the black community. This community would be better if the allowed segregation practices did not resume and also different discrimination issues incased. Du Bois felt that the economic development gain for African Americans would not last long if they could not be treated fairly. Additionally, Du Bois felt that with no equal opportunities and proper education, the economic gain would be inconceivable to most people.

In today’s society, Du Bois’ teachings are most often illustrated than those of Booker T Washington’s although both made valuable assertions concerning what would assist in improving the state of the black community. People put a vast amount of focus on education and equality than the emphasis put on economic development. Some studies prove this assertion by showing that African American students with a college degree have a substantially higher income. There are also other institutions with more than 85 percent African American students graduating.

To maintain financial security, it is essential to advance economically. However, education and equality are the most efficient means of meeting these goals.  In the fight for equality, it appears as if the closest thing to cultural pride that African Americans can get isis in their obscure relationship with Africa, the region they had never been. Intrinsically, people fight for equal pay irrespective of gender and race, are struggling harder to join higher learning institutions, and are asking the government to let individuals exercise their legal rights. There was a time when prisons had more African Americans than colleges. Although this is a fact, this rate is declining. The graduation rate of African American men has been increasing, and by 2018 this rate was 35 percent compared to a decreasing rate of one percent between 1998 and 2000. Different research shows an increase from 28 percent to 35 percent for the past 15 years.

Additionally, black women are currently the most educated community in the United States. According to a study conducted in 2018, there was a one percent increase to 46 of black women’s college graduation rate. Black women are also significantly influential in fighting for equality. It is so since this population emphasizes the idea that America is a country built on an idea and alie. Every man was created equally and is provided for by their creator with particular inalienable rights. Regrettably, those who developed these words did not use this belief to many African Americans living in the United States. Intrinsically, many black people can now concentrate on economic development after many years of struggling for education and equality. Nevertheless, civil rights and education and not economic advancement will always be paramount when African Americans are fighting. This is to indicate that Booker T Washington’s ideas for moving forward were indeed less progressive than Du Bois’s assertions.
