Bread of Life
Deuteronomy chapter eight verse three states that, ” He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your fathers had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD.” In comparison, John chapter six verse thirty-five states that ” then Jesus declared, “ I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.” In my opinion, I believe that in John chapter six verse thirty-five, Jesus meant that no man could survive without Him as He is the giver of life and the sustainer of that life.
According to Beutler (2017), the message in John chapter six verse thirty-five conveys that Jesus Christ is the real bread and the giver of life where no man short of Jesus can support or live by himself. Even when one is a believer, their power cannot support their spiritual growth and have or dwelling in Christ helps renew one’s mental strength, and also one can receive eternal life through Jesus Christ. Those who believe and live in Christ, their sins will be forgiven, and their hunger and thirst will be reduced, and the only food they will desire will be from Christ.
Bread as been used as a symbol in John, chapter six, verse thirty-five and also in other parts of the Bible. According to Beutler (2017), bread is a gift from God to which I concur. For example, when the Israelites were in the desert, Moses fed them with food that fell from even which was manna and also during the Last Supper, where bread was used as the body of Christ. Bread can also show a sigh of sharing, for example, when Jesus multiplied bread to feed a big crowd. In my opinion, I believe the bread in John chapter six verse thirty-five symbolizes the Word of God. The above passage helps me understand the importance of having Jesus Christ and also gives me an understanding of Jesus Christ as the bread of life.
