Gimenez delivered his speech, addressing the state of the nation on January 14, 2020, at the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science, 1101 Biscayne Blvd. in his address, he addressed the economy of the state, protection of the residents of South Dade and West Kendall, climate change, tax and role played by the private sector in the redevelopment at the Port Miami.
He held that the economy of the state had been growing steadily, credit to effective presidential leadership. The economy started improving during the reign of former President Barrack Obama. During Trump’s administration, the economy has improved further, creating a lot of employment opportunities and well-paying jobs. He gave credit to Donald Trump, for creating a sense in the economy and eliminating red tape, without imposing negative effects on the environment.
He acknowledged the role played by the reduction of property tax rates, which led to savings amounting to $1700 for each individual taxpayer and eliminated over $1.8 billion in the county expenditure for the next coming nine years. The property tax rate reduction made the state of the county stable and strong. He promised to help the residents from South Dade and West Kendall, who were highly affected by the traffic congestion, and which negatively interfered with their way of life. He acknowledged that the state has been left behind in the fight for climate change and the rising sea level. Mayor Carlos addressed the issue of the redevelopment at Port Miami, where he had to make several changes, including changing the procurement and leading participating companies. His efforts led to the opening of 200 units of the first phase in July last year. He guaranteed completion of the next phases and urged the audience that there is nothing great that comes easy, and therefore, they had to be patient.
