Case Analyses Instructions
Case analyses will typically consist of your key recommendations to the managers in a case, along with the supporting logic for those recommendations. Address the issues at the time of the case (although you may also include a brief update of what has been done and what remains as current strategic problems). You should identify the strategic problems facing the managers (at the time of the case), state your position as what the managers in the case should do, and support that position using strategic logic. You should NOT use precious space rehashing facts from the case. Instead, key facts should be used (sparingly) to help justify particular recommendations. That is, do not simply restate what the case writer has said in other words. Go beyond the facts provided by the case writer by doing some new analysis of the situation facing the managers. Then develop recommendations based on the analysis. Also, when making recommendations, DO NOT dwell on things that the company is already doing.[unique_solution]
Please respond to the four questions below. Refer to the guidelines above on writing your case analysis. You may write the analysis as if you’re a consultant (or manager) for Patagonia providing recommendations to the company.
QUESTIONS:
For your case analysis assignment, please address the following questions.
- Should BMW anticipate that Tesla will grow into a strong direct competitor like Audi, versus Tesla being limited to a niche or just being a flash in the pan? Is Tesla at a competitive advantage or disadvantage? How will that evolve?
- What do you think of Tesla’s entry strategy? What barriers did it have to overcome? Will other firms follow in Tesla’s footsteps?
- Do you think Tesla’s secret plan (p9) was really a plan or an ex-post rationalization? Would it matter to Tesla’s competitive advantage? To its environmental impact?
- How do you expect the industry to evolve?
