One of the facts from the play is that salesmanship is a career of desperation, as exemplified by Moss stealing the Glengarry leads to improve his selling capacity. Another fact is that salespersons engage in manipulative practices to achieve their goals, e.g. where Moss tries to trick Aaronow to steal the Glengarry leads for him. Also, salesmen despise their female counterparts and consider view them as being too weak for this kind of work.
Are salespersons desperate professionals who are ready to engage all kinds of gimmicks to stay afloat in their field? Yes, because marketing is a highly competitive field which means that sales personnel have to do whatever it takes to close deals. Does the marketing profession necessitate manipulation by the salespersons to get clients to close deals? Yes, because this trade is a psychological one whereby salespeople capitalize on the weaknesses of customers to get them to buy their products. Are men superior to women in the sales and marketing field? No. Skills and tactics are all that is necessary to become a successful salesman or woman.
Sales teams compete against each other to ensure that their respective companies move more products than their competitors. As such, they may become increasing desperate since their employer can only continue keeping them if they keep generating sales. The practice of sales managers giving their team members leads often times results in the personnel manipulating each other to get more leads and remain above their colleagues. Women are not inferior to men when it comes to marketing products since in the sales and marketing field, one needs to be able to meet the demands of the four Ps of sales and marketing salesmanship. One needs to be able to innovatively brand the product, price it well, identify a suitable place to sell it, and come up with the best promotional strategy for the product. Both men and women can perform these roles well and in any case, women are do better since they are more creative than men. .
