Case Study Assignment
Students will examine a recent (within the last year) news story dealing with violence in Canada. Students will choose one of the topics studied in class that interests them (e.g assault, domestic violence, crowd violence, genocide, violence prevention, explaining violence, etc.) and a news article related to this topic. They will then write a critical/analytic essay comparing their news article/topic to what they have learned (concepts, theories and themes) about violence in society examined in the course. Additionally, considerations regarding the media’s role, the broader social context, and implications for policy making should be examined.
At a minimum, the essay must draw on at least two (2) course readings (concepts, themes, and theories) to provide context for and discussion of the case study. We will discuss the assignment in more detail in class. Below is a breakdown of the evaluation for the project.[unique_solution]
Papers must be typed, a word file document, double spaced, 12 point font, with 1 inch margins.
