Case study Soma bay and ERP system
Soma bay and ERP system
Problems that Soma Bay encountered
Despite Soma bay resort offering world-class services, political and economic instability affected its performance. As the Egyptian president was removed from office, the currency rates reduced, and this affected Soma bay resort profits and the occupancy rates. Soma bay used an excel spreadsheet to manage company performance. This method was complicated, and they could not clearly tell if the company is making profits or losses. The company could not grow and expand using this system.
Enterprise resource planning (ERP) as a problem solver
Soma bay needed a system that would quickly give quality information to be used in decision making. Soma bay was looking at expanding its business by building a thousand homes in five years. Enterprise resource planning is essential for the resort because it helps to manage the company within a well-unified system(Munkelt & Völker, 2013). ERP offers better analytics because it records and keeps all information that can be generated into reports.
Challenges that ERP system poses
The ERP system requires frequent maintenance, which can become expensive. Introducing a new system in an organization may be faced with resistance from the staff.
ERP system offering operational excellence
By using the ERP system, the company has managed to raise the occupancy rates, started to build vacation homes, and also keep track of every expense attained while running the business. ERP delivers detailed financial data that assist top management in monitoring fixed working capital expenses, which helps in reducing losses(Munkelt & Völker, 2013).
Nasty Gal
Social media as a marketing and social tool
Social media is essential for a business because it helped Amoruso connect with her customers, her brand became popular, and sales increased. Over two billion people use social media around the world; hence it’s the best platform to reach people. Amoruso used social media to make Nasty Gal popular by creating content that was appealing and attractive. She also used social media to get customer feedback that helped her know the level of customer satisfaction. Social media offers a chance to quickly reaction customer comments, questions, and complaints. Social media marketing is cheaper than other channels of marketing.
Management, organization, and technological issues that led to the failure of Nasty Gal
As Nasty Gal grew, the company spend a lot of money on advertising and marketing, which at the end did not match with the sales they were making(Cerne, 2015). When marketing was reduced, the sales drop as well because they could not keep customers. Nasty Gal management moved to a bigger headquarters in Los Angeles and opened other offices in Kentucky, Los Angeles, and Santa Monica. These investments had a significant impact on the company’s expenses and contributed to negative business performance.
Nasty Gal dint concentrates enough on production, distribution, and operational costs that were essential to make sure the company was profitable. CEO Amoruso got distracted by other ventures, which made her not manage the company effectively.
Ways to keep nasty Gal from filing for bankruptcy as CEO
As a CEO, I would make sure to create a balance between the creative side of the business and the sales, distribution, and business operations. If at some point, I get involved in engagements and projects that are not related to the company, I would hire a new manager with experience in running an organization like Nasty Gal. Nasty Gal does not need new huge offices for it to be run effectively, so I would move to a smaller space, which would reduce the business cost.
Automated automobiles
Benefits of automated automobiles
The use of computerized automobiles will lead to increased safety and reduce the number of traffic accidents. The motors are designed to alert drivers of incoming collusion. Driverless cars would help reduce traffic; hence people can get to their destination quicker and safer. The automated vehicle will lead to less harmful emissions because there are less congestion, braking, and fuel consumption(Banks & Stanton, 2016).
Disadvantages of automated automobiles
Automated automobiles are costly, the equipment, cost researching, and cost of materials. Since the motor is highly computerized, it can be hacked and manipulated by criminals. People like taxi drivers, mechanics, and co-pilots may lose their jobs, and this will negatively affect the countries employment rates. The automobiles may not be able to adjust to different weather conditions hence at risk of causing accidents. Automobiles will need new systems to be put in place that support their needs, which could become expensive and take a long time to be able to function effectively.
Reasons for investing resources in an automated automobile as CEO
The automated automobile is the future of automobiles, and it’s better to begin the process of research and to manufacture them early to make sure when the time comes the company will be at par with the rest of the world. Other reputable companies are investing heavily in the development of these machines because they know their benefits and effectiveness. If every other company in the industry is manufacturing the automated automobiles, then it means whoever is left behind will, at some point, be obsolete.
