Symbolism  in The Lottery Symbolism plays an integral part in the short story “The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson to support the theme of civilization and traditions. The plot development starts in a village square where the whole villages have gathered to participate in the lottery. The day is described as clear and sunny on 29th June which shows it was just another typical day for the community to go about their business. The literary element of symbolism takes shapes in the early plot development because the author introduces a perfect day which cannot possibly go wrong. To understand the true meaning of “The Lottery” story, one has to read until the end of the story to grasp what it meant to the community. The Lottery depicts a community that is illogically following old traditions without any substantial meaning or reason. The story uses symbolism to show how ancient traditions negatively continue to affect civilization development in society through practices that are outdated and inhumane, which is depicted through the lottery, the big black box, and the act of stoning. The Mattcahine society The Mattcahine society was formed in the year 1950 after the Chicago Society of Human Rights by Harry Hay, together with some of his male friends while in I Los Angeles to help bring to light and make known gay rights. He believed that homosexuals are supposed to see themselves as a minority who are entitled to equal rights as all other members of the society. Therefore, Harry acted on his convictions and went on to prompt the dramatic changes in the status of homosexuals, which did not take place immediately, but it was only until later that changes could be seen. Hay’s interest in protecting homosexuals developed after reading Alfred Kinsey’s “Sexual Behavior in the Human Male” (1948). Hay, later on, outgrew the urge to organize the disparate homosexuals of America, bringing out massive change. Increased interest in supporting the gay population in the United States, which was growing by the day, made him go on writing a manifesto on his movement and it was here that we went on to be the first to view…

Existence of Life on Mars The existence of life in different environments constitutes the availability of water and favorable climatic conditions. Planet Mars consists of polar ice caps that contain water, thus proving the existence of water at a particular period. The planet has a thin atmosphere that allows radiation from the sun to penetrate, therefore rendering it dry. Previous studies indicate canyons formed by flowing water on the earth, thus revealing the possibility of the existence of life (Horneck et al. 2012). The discovery of a meteorite from Mars indicates a possibility of the existence of life at a particular time. The Martian rock contains structures resembling fossil remains of bacteria, and follow-up tests reveal the presence of organic material. The greenhouse effect results naturally, as well as through human activities. It results in the warming of the surface of the earth caused by the presence of water vapor, carbon dioxide, and other harmful gases in the atmosphere. Human activities through the industrial revolution activate the greenhouse effect by releasing toxic gases in the atmosphere, raising the temperatures. Increasing…

I mean the kind of life where you are treated to buttered bread and eggs in the morning. In the afternoon, you take a stroll along the beach, soaking in the cool breeze as you eat those milky ice creams. How would it feel, taking a summer tour to Dubai every year, and sampling the amazing architecture as you get drenched in the therapeutic sun along the vast beaches? Maybe you still do not get me. Since my childhood, I have always feared huge water bodies, and thus, considering a boat ride was never an option. However, over the summer holiday, I decided to confront my fears and experience a boat ride. I visited the Alabama Gulf Coast Dolphin Cruise, and the experience was awesome. In the beginning, I could not get my eyes off the water surface as I feared for the worst. I was in the boat with the captain alone, who was as confident as he possibly could. Looking around, I felt like the landmasses were moving while we remained in the position. As the captain steered the boat to dolphin hotspots, my concentration changed, and I began to enjoy the new venture. It was the perfect opportunity to observe the area’s diverse marine features. The dolphins were being playful and created a spectacular show as they jumped into the air and back into the water in quick succession as if celebrating our presence in the area. The captain explained that dolphins behave like humans and can get just as playful as young…
