About popular authors Two popular authors I will be writing about are Flannery O’Connor’s and Allen Ginsburg. Both have created canonical texts. One of O’Connor’s most famous works is “A Good Man is Hard to Find,” which was written in the 1950s. As the 1960’s neared, the end of the persona of a perfect family, the “right” way to live, and the widespread sense of stability was ending. The Beat Movement was just around the corner, and it was evident in the writings of these stories that authors were becoming more daring in their subject matter. In “A Good Man is Hard to Find,” the main character is introduced as being religious, stand up citizen. Still, as the story goes on, her morals become questionable and beg the question if she is a good or even likable character.. The introduction of O’Connor’s character acts as the representation of society’s feelings of the ’50s, and their progression represents the transition in a culture which leads into the ’60s. Flannery O’Connor’s “A Good Man is Hard to Find” is set in the…

Role of the Department of Homeland Security The terrorism incident is about blockading of the Boston Marathon Bombers that was on April 15, 2003., The terrorism act was done during the Boston Marathon event, which entailed a set up where explosives such as pressure cooker bombs and nails were strategically placed and placed on specific places. The incident is of interest to me as it entailed a well organized plan where the weapons were well-timed with accordance to a race that was taking place. Emergency Management was effective enough in ensuring that they dealt with the issue before it exploded, and they were assertive enough. During the act, JFK Presidential Library exploded,. The emergency team was able to take quick action and determined that the case was not related to the bombing. The terrorist means of escape was blocked through the creation of a perimeter to intercept the suspects and get to interview witnesses. Terrorism has become a critical threat to the world in the modern world, and there is a need to ensure that terrorist is able to curb…
DISCUSS THE RELEVANCE OF THE SETTLEMENT MOVEMENT TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES IN AUSTRALIA In most parts of the world, the modern state is more than just an administrative behemoth. It is also a welfare state meant to ensure that, at the very least, the citizens of the state have basic needs. Various countries have effected their human service programs to various degrees. However, almost invariably, these human services in various English speaking countries have all been influenced by the settlement movement that started in the United Kingdom. In Australia, like in other English speaking countries, there is an invariable link between human services and the settlement movement. A historical analysis of the development of the settlement movement and human services in Australia shows that the settlement movement had an immense influence on the development of human services in Australia. This essay will discuss the influence of the settlement movement’s underpinning ideas on Australian Human Services. Origin and the development of the Settlement Movement in Australia The settlement movement started in the United Kingdom. It then moved to the…
Pastel Drawings to Female Living Condition in 19th Century The topic of my choice is Pastel drawing. It got painted by Edgar Degas( French 1834-1917), Woman Bathing in a Shallow Tub, 1885, and Mary Cassatt (American 1844-1926), In the Garden, 1893. In the content, my research paper will focus on a time when both present artists live in and collect information about the influence of their artwork styles. The existing professional connection between Edgar Degas and Mary Cassatt is apparent in the common themes and techniques of their artwork. And their accounts that got depicted in letters composed to each other and generations. On the other hand, despite having similarities in themes and techniques, there are some differences between their styles of work. Thus, this paper will compare and contrast the two artworks and artist styles in perspective of their life experience and time. Figure 2 Mary Cassatt (American 1844-1926) Figure 1 Edgar Degas (French 1834-1917) In the Garden 1893 Woman Bathing in a Shallow Tub, 1885 One of the shared similarities between…
Religious Effect on Art Practices and Styles Introduction Most of the time, art is involved in ceremonies and other religious practices. Much of the art related to religion applies symbolic images that pertain to the perceptions (Lahelma, 2018). Practices of arts was highly influenced by the religious environment positively and negatively. Effect of the religious environment The brief high renaissance of Michelangelo, Raphael, and Leonardo da Vinci changed catholic art, basically breaking with ancient iconography that was unified with religious conventions for the composition that reflected renaissance humanism influence and the artistic imperatives (Taliaferro, 2015). Most of the pictures in the 15th century was religious. The church commissioned the artwork for some reason. The first reason was indoctrination, pure images relayed meaning to the illiterate people. The other purpose was to make it easy to recall saints’ depictions and other figures they came into contact with during life activities. The church also commissioned artwork to motivate the viewer’s heart since it was an easy way to do with the image in comparison with the words. The cultural rebirth which occurred…
Key Passages to reflect on in Henry IV, Part One This is a small list of passages, scenes, and speeches that I consider very useful, especially when considering the essay question. Keep in mind that this list is by no means exhaustive, and there are many other passages that will be excellent resources for you as you write the essay. As with Midsummer, I will be reading selected portions of these key passages and I will contextualize these suggestions by indicating which characters either speak the lines or interact with each other in the dialogue. Act I/Scene 1/Lines 1-34 and Lines 77-94. These two passages are spoken by King Henry and they help establish both the “backstory” of the play and its current tensions. The second passage is important because it allows us to see the King’s grief and anger over Prince Henry’s wayward life, even to the point where he wishes Hotspur, “the theme of honour’s tongue,” was his real son. Act I/Scene 2/Lines 1-111. This is our introduction to both Prince Henry and Sir John Falstaff and…
Part One / Huston Smith – The World’s Religions Do we know anything about the historical Jesus, according to Smith? Explain. Smith highlights a few things about historical Jesus by not only reconstructing his life but also his teachings as well as the cultural and historical context. He argues that Jesus did exist, and his history was based on the Pauline epistles and the Gospel. He was also referred to as Jesus Christ or Jesus of Nazareth and lived in the first century. He was a Jewish preacher and a religious leader. Smith points out that Jesus was wrong about the one thing he was most sure about. What is that one thing? The commitment He made How is the world divided for Jesus, according to Smith? Another way of asking this is, “What two types of substance are the world typically divided into?” According to Jesus, the world is divided into two substances: good and evil. And one’s actions and deeds determine the side to which they belong because it is either one is on the left or…
1918 Picasso’s Harlequin with Violin (“Si tu veux”) Introduction Harlequin, with the violin, was painted in the spring of 1918 by Picasso. The painting features a large and imposing figure carrying a violin and a sheet of music known as “sit u veux”. Picasso applied various art styles and techniques, but the most outstanding if the synthetic Cubism that is evident through lively colors and large geometric shapes. Such techniques were used to show recognizable themes and meanings in the painting. In the artwork, violin and sheet music shows some ideas of the meaning of the painting. Most interpreters argue that the sheet of music and violin indicates a marriage proposal to a Russian lady, Olga Koklova, proposed to be Picasso’s wife[1]. The painting is one of the mysterious images in the era of Cubism with the figure of Harlequin. It is recognized to have a diamond-patterned costume with a dark triangular hat. In the painting, Picasso identifies himself with a stock figure that originated from Commedia dell’art, and this creates a sense of personification and depiction of bohemian culture[2].A…
What If All the Kids Are White article review Introduction After reading the article, ‘What If All the Kids Are White. ‘I do get the feeling and develop the thought of how much the element of race still is deeply rooted in the mind of most Americans. It is a reflection of the society that tends to view the black and the white race, and worse is the unchanging perception that either the white race is superior or that the black race is inferior in some way. The article is a reflection to me on how the anti-bias culture or journey is still far from where people would want it to be but at the same time a challenge to me on how little I am doing to change the perception that this article talks about. In my view, I am not doing much, and this article is a wakeup call to the way that I live and work towards changing the narrative of the race issue. The race is and remains an issue of concern even to the modern…
