Revelations of the Kennewick man The Kennewick man discovery occurred in 1996 by a couple of college students from Washington along the Colorado River. It is one of the most well preserved archeological findings ever collected. The skeletal remains raised a lot of controversy among the archeological professionals and the general public as to what the Kennewick man represents. The controversy revolved around the federal government which attempted to settle the matter out of court and the Native American Community which raised objections to such attempts. Such controversies eventually affected the analysis of the remains by the scientist and any attempts to carry out scientific studies on the skeleton have been met with an equal measure of contempt and curiosity from the general public. Carbon dating analysis carried out on the specimen estimate that the Kennewick man is about 9000 years old which according to archaeologist presents a new set of controversy since it was widely believed that there were no humans in North America during that period of time. Furthermore, the Native Americans claimed that the Kennewick man was…

The struggle for equality Hello, my name is Malik Anderson and my topic for this paper will be on the successes, failures, and conflicts of the Civil Rights Movement. The Civil Rights Movement is one of the most important starting points in our history that have created the foundation of what we are still aiming to achieve everywhere today: equality for all. Whether it be the wage gap that is still relevant, social class, gender, etc., the ideal of perfect equality is still very far out of reach. I would like to delve into why this is still such an epidemic and possibly aim for a solution as well as explain the effects the Civil Rights Movement had on society back then and now. Let us first look at the sources that support the Civil Rights Movement for what it did. It was a time of racial bigotry, bloodshed, and resentment towards those of the African American community after the first Civil War. White supremacy was practiced everywhere, especially in the south and those of the black community were not…

The National Museum of the American Indian The National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI) is devoted to advancing understanding and knowledge of the Native cultures and heritage of the Spanish-speaking hemisphere via a partnership with Native people. NMAI collections have their importance and relevance to diverse populations. The New York show at the museum explores the legacy of indigenous Caribbean people known as the Taino people (Strong, 2015). The museum stems from their culture from the Arawak- speaking community of Jamaica, Cuba, Haiti, and Puerto Rico. The culture of the Taino people has been mistaken to be extinct. In a story, the Europeans arrived at the Caribbean in 1492, led by Christopher Columbus, resulted in enslavement, foreign diseases, conquest, and disruption of the native agrarian lifestyle. The process led to a devastating loss of over ninety percent of the indigenous people. The survival of the remaining ten percent after the destruction led to the emergence of the inciting incident of the museum exhibition. The show is about the legacy of the native community in the Spanish-speaking Caribbean. The exhibition…

Marcel Duchamp and the “Readymades” Marcel Duchamp earns the credit for changing the course of the history of art. Duchamp adapted the concept of art. His interest was in ideas, not visual products. Therefore, he started presenting objects as art, which he called “readymades.” Duchamp chose mass-produced objects, commercially available, utilitarian objects, designating them as art and gave them titles. Duchamp’s Urinal (Fountain) The fountain is probably the most groundbreaking art by Duchamp. It is his most famous artwork and perhaps the most brilliant idea of the 20th century. The original fountain was an upside-down that was signed and dated with the appellation R. Mutt, 1917. The Unjuried Society of Independent Artists salon in New York rejected the piece and claimed that it was plagiarism. Duchamp recounted that the fountain was an idea from his discussion with the collector Walter Arensberg and the artist Joseph Stella. Afterward, Duchamp buys a urinal and arranges it for submission to the salon. The directors were bound by the constitution to accept all submissions, which they did except for the fountain. The board believed…
