The Athenaeum of Philadelphia Introduction As at the end of 1813, a number of men commenced the subscription towards the establishment of reading rooms in Philadelphia. The name Athenaeum was chosen as it referred to the Greek goddess of wisdom and learning. Given the increase in the number of subscribers and visitors of the Philosophical Hall, the society deemed it apt to have its building and this resulted in the idea of constructing the Athenaeum to house the society and the library. John Notman won the architectural competition that was held to select the best architect to design and construct the building. Stanford Memorial Church Introduction The Stanford Memorial Church strategically stands at the center of California’s Stanford University. The church was the masterpiece plan of Jane and Leland Stanford. However, when Leland died in 1983, Jane decided to construct the church in memory of her husband. Due to financial constraints and legal lawsuits, the construction was delayed for several years. In 1899, the church’s construction commenced, and it was completed in 1903. This paper will provide an analysis of the work by detailing the materials used in its construction, the architecture’s input, how it compares to the Basilica of Saint-Sernin, its acceptability as well as the impact that the 1906 and 1989 earthquakes had on its structure. Cultural Experience:The Sanctuary of Truth, Thailand I had one of the best experiences in the Sanctuary of Truth. The locals call it Prasat Sajja Tham. It is a construction of religious ethnicity located in Pattaya, Thailand. The building is built entirely on wood and has sculptures that present the Buddhist and Hindu themes. I visited the museum with a group of friends. We had not booked ourselves a tour guide, but we were lucky to join a group that was guided by a worker of the museum. His name was Chaiya.
