The Isley Brothers’ Case Study. Issue. The issue, in this case, is the infringement of the copyrights of the Isley Brothers by Michael Bolton and Andrew Goldmark. Michael’s ‘Love is a wonderful thing’ had infringed on the Isley Brothers’ copyrights for a song with the same name. It was found that there was sufficient evidence to show that the appellants could access the song by the Isley Brothers. It was also found that the two songs were too similar. Since the Brothers had already registered a complete copy of that song, there was subject matter jurisdiction in the case. Sufficient evidence also pointed to the fact that profits made by Michael could be attributed to infringement of the Brothers’ song. For instance, 66 percent profit gotten from the commercial use of Michael’s song could be attributed to the copyright infringement. Rule. According to copyright rules, it was ruled that Michael was guilty of copyright infringement as there was a lot of concrete evidence to support the same. For a case of copyright infringement to hold, the plaintiff must provide…

Social Media: Avenues for (Dis)connectivity? In the last few decades, technology has transformed how people access and gather information, as well as how they interact.  Whether it be Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, or Snapchat,  social media platforms have created a type of connectivity that was unimaginable in the past. However, recently, concerns have increased about the somewhat ironic tendency for such technologies to disconnect users in real life. In a study by Ciobanu (2017), it was established that social media usage contributes to depression and negative emotions such as self-doubt and envy. Moreover, social media, while enhancing digital communication, has meant that real-life interactions have reduced over time. Often, people give priority to social media and other technologies at the expense of real-life interactions, as figure 1 demonstratesFigure 1: Social media interfere with our social life. Source Malmquist, (2018). In her book, Malmquist (2018), advises humanity to “take a step back” and reflect on their social media habits and in the process make use of the innate communication abilities that existed prior the digital era. Consequently, it can be deduced that…

It does not matter whether your child will be the new upcoming artist or not. Music comes along with some educational benefits. Scientific study has revealed that learning music assists children in understanding the lesson’s concepts quickly. With the enlightenment of how music is essential, the society will reflect on how it impacts the lives of the students in the future. Music has also been applied in the essay writing industry where a writer may compose a music analysis essay for a…

Grunsfeld and Caitlin In the video, a group of world-class athletes and scientists are trying to solve the mystery of why high altitude and extreme weather can kill, as they put their lives at risk. To solve this mystery, they have to climb to the top of Denali, which the narrator describes as the highest mountain in North America and probably the coldest mountain globally. Annually, many climbers come from all over the world to climb Denali. Half of them succeed and get to the top of the mountain, while the other half fail. In some instances, failure in Denali can mean death. Dr. Peter Hackett, who is responsible for the medical rescue camp for climbers who develop complications as they climb the mountain, noted that about two decades ago, not much was known about high altitude illness. Hackett’s mission is to find out why climbers on Denali become sick and eventually die. To achieve this mission, Hackett has come with a team of world-class scientists and athletes, led by Colby Coombs. Coombs is the director of the Alaska Mountaineering…
