Umm Kulthum Movie Review Music indeed has a significant meaning that organized society in the Middle East by instituting biding affairs among communities. This formed a comparable identity that motivates people more than any other art. Therefore, Umm Kulthum’s career and her film provide remarkable connections between music philosophy and social organization in the Middle East communities (Lohman, n.p). Throughout her considerable talent, she brought mediocracy to the stories of other Middle Eastern women, where else her musical mastery helped to bring social development and togetherness in Arabs society in the new century. Also, she played a noteworthy influence on the notions of nationalism, whereby she became a political voice and an advocate for social and political issues from her charitable contributions to military efforts. I liked her capability to tie musical creativeness to the connotation of the world in such a way that she constructed song meaning that was felt by listeners who gathered great gratitude. Besides, she was intact with her audience, such she could repeat lines several times until her audience was satisfied, which created an…
Oscar Wilde and his false imprisonment During the nineteenth century, homosexuality was considered a social taboo and severe criminal offense. Wilde was a victim of the societal views on homosexuality, which saw him being held responsible as a suspect in relation to sexual orientation. Wilde’s case was decided based on the 1885 Act of Criminal Law Amendment, which prohibited intimacy among men as such interactions were labeled gross indecencies. In the 1890 era, Wilde was experiencing a literary peak and had established a robust academic bond (Raby 1). Further on, Wilde also had intimate relations with Lord Alfred Douglas, where Douglas was Marquess of Queensberry’s youngest son. John Sholto Douglass was an eccentric, arrogant, and ill-tempered who strongly opposed the relations between Douglas and his son. He considered Wilde a vile man and sought to save young Douglas from the evil friendship, which was later referred to as a relationship. John Sholto Douglass went further to threaten to stop all financial supplies and disown young Douglass in case he proceeded with his relationship with Wilde. When he realized the threats…

Overview of the Hippie Movement The mid- 1960’s marked a period of cultural turbulence; normally-held societal values, behaviors, and practices were eroded by a countercultural movement that led to the adoption of a new subculture (M.D, 2012, p. 156). The new counterculture, known as the Hippie movement, had distinct thoughts about society and values. The Hippie movement emphasized community, authenticity, and individualism. In turn, the three ideals led to the adoption of norms and values that were different from the practices of mainstream American culture. Besides, the Hippie countercultural movement was spearheaded by the youths of the time, notably, the baby boomer generation. The latter was an overwhelming majority in society, giving the Hippies an upper hand in the move to usurp the mainstream beliefs and practices. During the same period, the American dream had just been achieved. The majority of the whites in this generation felt the privilege. Nurtured in the suburbs, and weaned in the media through television. Contrastingly, not every individual enjoyed the right, specifically, the African Americans who were denied the opportunity of democracy, liberty, and happiness.…
The Black Americans Movement The modern Negro movement established in 1920 became popular at a time when Harlem revived, awakened, and enlightened the blacks about their rights. Harlem, therefore, educated the Africans Americans on the importance of self-independence in America. During this period, different individuals started the move to advocate for the freedom of expression, economic, and social independence. Also, racial segregation of the blacks put down on Jim Crow’s laws. Jim has separated schools, restaurants, public places, and transport between black and white people. Consequently, between the year 1882 and 1968, the number of black Americans hanged was 3500, which prompted the blacks to start the fight for their civil freedoms. Du Bois, James Weldon Johnson, Walter White, and Jessie Fauset are the leaders who spearheaded the black Americans fight by offering financial support and advice to the black people. The difficulties experienced by black women included sexual harassment, physical violence, joblessness, and being killed. Therefore, Susan Anthony and Elizabeth Stanton came up with new ideas and strategies for advocating for the respect of women’s rights. The old negro…
REGULATION OF THE THEATRE BY THE MONARCHY. It is true the monarchy attempted to regulate the theatre in England. The reason behind the regulation was that during that era, the actors were not closely supervised. The implication is that the actors had a lot of freedom, which made most illegal companies claim patronage falsely to the theatre. The performance of the theatre also caused religious controversy as many plays written in those days were religion-related. Due to these reasons, queen Elizabeth took several measures aimed at bringing order during this chaotic period. The monarchy took several measures in the year 1559, such as the banning of plays related to both the religion and political subjects. The monarchy also made the local officials responsible for licensing all the public performance in their jurisdictions. However, these regulations were not effective in 1570, which led to the suppression of religious cycles systematically. The destruction ended in 1581 with the closure of the Coventry cycle. It was declared illegal for anyone below a baron’s rank to authorize a tour or maintain a Troup in…
The Platoon (1986) The Platoon is was written and directed by Oliver Stone. The move is a replication of the Vietnam War and the devastating condition that its impacts left behind. Gruner, Oliver. “Vietnam and beyond: rethinking Oliver Stone’s Platoon (1976–2006).” Rethinking History 16.3 (2012): 359-376. https://doi.org/10.1080/13642529.2012.695046 The article is a combination of works from different authors who have analyzed different films. The author aimed to understand how films can be analyzed by considering both theatrical and not theatrical aspects. The author paid special attention to Oliver Stone’s film “Platoon” because of its contribution to history. This article acknowledges the Platoon as a canvas on which countless historical narratives have been based, especially those that recount the war. It is appropriate for the current study because it provides methodological guidance in analyzing the historical context of the film. Stone, John. “Evil in the early cinema of Oliver Stone: Platoon and Wall Street as modern morality plays.” Journal of Popular Film and Television 28.2 (2000): 80-87. https://doi.org/10.1080/01956050009602826 The author in this article compares to Oliver Stone’s movies, Platoon (1986) and Wall Street (1987). music In Latin America In Latin America, music has been very instrumental in communicating social problems, including issues related to social justice, governance, and lifestyle. Historically, music has been used to express people’s minds and ideas concerning politics as well as criticizing government institutions and leaders. Through music, people have formed social-political movements that have helped to gain independence and protesting against injustices. For instance, the Corridor is the most popular genre in Latin America. These songs have been used to tell myths and stories, including other historical events. This genre was very instrumental during the Mexican independence when some of the songs in this category would be used to encourage people during the time of war. Music has also been used to influence and mobilize leaders to take immediate action in times of crisis. For instance, the ‘Jose Perez Leon’ that tells about a young man suffocating inside a truck as he attempted to cross from Mexico into the U.S. This song referenced a case where 16 immigrants suffocated inside a car in Texas. Most music has historically been…
