Short Story Reflection In this course, I have encountered several short stories. Some of them were amusing and enjoyable while others were less interesting. The story that I found very interesting is The Girls in Their Summer Dresses by Irwin Shaw. This paper explores why I was fascinated by this short story and the extent to which it has influenced my personal character. I found Irwin Shaw’s The Girls in their Summer Dresses interesting for various reasons. To begin, I think that this short story uses characters that one resonates with. Michael and Frances plan to visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art (Shaw, 1939). However, their plans are delayed when Frances catches Michael looking at women walking along the streets. Michael’s conduct raises a relatively serious conflict as Frances thinks that the behavior of her husband suggests that he is less interested in her and may end up cheating on her. On the contrary, Michael argues that he is very committed to his wife and is only entertaining his eyes by looking at other women (Shaw, 1939). Although Michael’s explanation…
Reviewing Sherene Razack’s Article, “Freezing Deaths in Saskatchewan” Sherene Razack’s article, “It Happened More Than Once Freezing Deaths in Saskatchewan,” highlights the racial, spatial economies that result in freezing deaths of aboriginal people in Saskatchewan. According to Razack, the colonial settlers devise ways to dispose of the native settlers from the colonial state to rightfully lay claim to the territory. Dumping Aboriginal people to the city’s outskirts is a measure arising from the colonialists’ necessity to uphold forceful lines in the colonial city. Razack examines inquests that look into the freezing deaths of various aboriginal youth, concluding that the events that led to their death, along with the subsequent inquests, are a representation of the settlers’ devaluation of Aboriginal life, which the law creates and supports. By pointing out the events that led to the freezing deaths of the Aboriginal young adults as well as the deprivations and adversities that the Aboriginal populations experience in Saskatchewan, Razack shows the unethical colonial perspective that considers Aboriginal death as a predictable end of a troublesome population. The deaths of such natives are…
Sexual Violence in the Media Introduction The past several decades have seen a significant increase in the number of movies and other TV programs with some sort of violence. This is true for both children and adult TV programs with violence being depicted even in cartoons. Violence may be in the form of assault, murder, kidnapping, robbery or sexual violence (Intons-Peterson et al., 1989). Among all these forms of violence, sexual violence, by far, has raised the most concerns. According to the World Health Organization, sexual violence is defined as any attempt to obtain a sexual act through coercion directed against a victim with or without the existence of any relationship and in any setting. Sexual violence also encompasses unwanted sexual comments (WHO, 2007). Coercion not only focuses on physical force but also on psychological torture and emotional blackmail. In the setting of mass media, sexual violence is a continuum covering physical violence, emotional violence, psychological violence and verbal violence (Bivens & Dawson, 2013). Children, teenagers and the youth bear the brunt of the negative effects of sexual violence in…
Compare and Contrast Relief Sculpture using these works of art Discuss, Compare and Contrast Relief Sculpture using these works of art: Halicarnassus, East Frieze, in the British Museum, London, England, Figure 3.2, and Oscar Wilde’s Gravestone in Pere LaChaise Cemetery, Paris, France. The Mausoleum of Halicarnassus was constructed between 350 and 353 BC by Artemisia after the death of her partner Mausolus died in Halicarnassus. Mausolus and his wife had ruled over Halicarnassus and its surroundings for roughly 24years. The tomb was built to symbolize the clash between the Amazons and the Greeks (“Mausoleum at Halicarnassus”). Oscar Wilde’s Gravestone is a structure that was carved in 1914 by Jacob Epstein. The structure that took roughly ten months to be completed was carved out of a 20-tonne block of stone. This tomb has a winged symbol similar to the Sphinx on a frontward flight with perpendicularly extended wings and is thought to be inspired by Wilde’s poem The Sphinx (“Oscar Wilde”). Both the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus and Oscar Wilde’s Gravestone are three- dimensional structures because they have depths. The Mausoleum of…
Development of Political Parties in the United States The first party system The first party system existed from 1788 to 1824 and was a result of the differences between the Jeffersonians and the Hamiltonians during the administration of Washington (Schaffner, 2011). These sides evolved into the first American parties: the anti-federalists and the federalists, whereby the anti-federalists later came to be the Democratic-Republicans. This system lasted from the time of Washington’s administration with the Democratic-Republicans winning the presidency 11 times out of 12 elections. This party system reflected sectionalism/regionalism much less compared to the other systems that followed. The second party system The second party system dominated politics between 1837 and 1852 in the United States and was spurred by the 1828 presidential elections (Longley, 2020). The party system represented a shift towards the interest of the public in politics. Most of the people voted on election day, the newspaper supported various candidates, political rallies were common, and America experienced a high number of political parties. Not only did the second party system help increase the people’s interest and participation…
Rhetorical Analysis: Feed the Children Article The world is currently experiencing a socioeconomic crisis, affecting mostly children and the elderly population. The Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has shaken the world, thereby facilitating various governments to find ways to help their citizens, especially the needy communities. Doug Ducey, the governor of Arizona State, came up with strategies to assist people in going through these tough times. Kathleen B. Kunz wrote the article titled “Feed the children” to reveal how school districts within Arizona State partnering with the governor’s office, have gone the extra mile to help fight against COVID-19 pandemic. Precisely, the program is non-discriminative because it reaches all children regardless of their diversity. Further, Kathleen reveals that people should be brother’s keepers, especially to children who belong to the entire society. More so, some families rely on feeding programs, which has fostered state officials to support the move jointly. Therefore, it is essential to analyze the article to help other states to decide whether to follow the footsteps or not The article author revealed that the governor’s strategy observe ethical…
Part A: Chapter 23 reflection Unfortunately, the government, which champions the right to everyone, is the key to foster discrimination through racial injustice. I have learned from the chapter that most of the people of color in American jails suffer things they are not aware of. Even after several surveys being conducted and the government realized that the fight to the drug is yet to be met in the right manner, they continually used the underhand methods. The authorities are aware that the drug deals are not only the people of the race but it something familiar across the races. However, the statistics available reveals something different from reality and truth. I have as well realized that they are people in the government that are extending racialism within the country. Yet, the authority is doing nothing to stop them from dubious behaviors. I am surprised that you don’t need to be guilty of being jailed. Besides, the government is not ready to dig deep and give people of the space to prove themselves not guilty. It looks so obvious that…
Gun control Research Gun control is a critical issue in the United States. Different people bear conflicting opinions and ideologies that influence this vital debate. For example, factors such as political orientation and its influence have been found to play a critical role in shaping individual perceptions of the concept. The question of if individuals should be allowed to bear and keep arms is often debated on various fronts and bases. The legality of this concept is found in the Second Amendment of the Constitution. Controlling access to guns is a vital issue that requires the evaluation of huge factors. Well-thought-out strategies must be implemented, such as more education and awareness creation on gun safety (“Gun Control – Pros & Cons,” 2020). For instance, one of the most critical loopholes in the system is the regulation of arms buying and selling. The issue, being a highly political debate, is very divisive. It cuts across various filed such as work, school, and other crucial spheres of daily life. For example, gun possession in schools has been highlighted as a rising…

Internal communication includes horizontal and vertical communication, both of which involve interaction within the organization. External communication, on the other hand, consists of the potential investors, the stakeholders, the media, tax regulators, the government, and the general public.
