Spiderwoman Theatre Spider-woman is an art that involves the performance of community-based activist theatre that neither conforms the gay or the radical queer camp. The Spiderwoman theatre aimed to bring social change. This was actualized in the following ways; through this art, the theatre advocated for marginalized communities, and it actively worked towards social change using circumstances and opportunities that were available within the city for lesbians and gay men. The Spiderwoman theatre broke the social barriers that were tied with gay men and lesbians being unaccepted in society. The theatre worked towards changing the attitudes and raising the morale of its constituent audience. By so doing, the theatre brought about the acceptance of the dominant culture. This resulted in communities being restaging of tribes and were responsible for the local gay men and lesbians’ community (Savard 121). Jan Cohen-Cruz, in her work, emphasizes the benefits brought about by the Spiderwoman Theatre. She defines this art as an art of the people, by the people and for the people (Edwards 70). The art posits that a technique that is community-based…

The distance between the various continents across the Atlantic ocean meant The distance between the various continents across the Atlantic ocean meant that people across these continents rarely interacted. People would also nurture different animals and plants, and these facilitate there own unique microbes and pathogens across the continents. The trans-Atlantic trade would bring Europeans to the other continents. They did bring with them diseases, gun powder, and Christianity. They would take back silver to Europe, and it would end the cash crisis. They would also bring back new stimulants such as sugar, tobacco, and chocolate from the Americas and, by doing so, started the slave trade that was needed to keep up the new consumer appetites. There were also tensions in Europe that were propagated by religious tensions between Protestants and Catholics. The monarch and wealthy landowners were also in constant loggerheads. Intellectuals and artists would struggle to document these new world orders. The discovery of the Canary Islands by the Portuguese would start a sailing revolution. Europeans would now start exploring the world, and this enhanced the slave…
Impact of Literature in Society Introduction American literature was produced during the time of British colonization of American land in the early 17th century. The first writings evolved in five distinct stages which are, the Colonial and early national period, the Romantic era, Realism and naturalism, the modernist period and the contemporary period (Giles). In each time, the writings impacted the society in several ways both politically and socially. The period of romanticism was characterized by the free expression of feelings by writers and artists, originality of work and the importance of nature. Thesis Statement Romanticism was partly a revolt against aristocratic, social and political norms of the age of enlightenment and a reaction against the scientific rationalization of nature and was saturated mostly in art, music and literature. Social and Political Impact of the Romanticism Literature Era on America In the early 1830s, American writings focused on romance which saw rapid expansion and growth in the U.S that fueled intuition, imagination and individuality. THE RISE OF FEMINISM IN THE UNITED STATES IN THE 1960s Introduction The rise of feminism in the United States is one of the remarkable changes that the country has experienced throughout its history. Through feminism movements, American women have fought hard to win their freedom that they enjoy today. Feminism movements started in the United States as early as the 17th century. The American society then significantly underrated women with their role strictly being housewives. Since then, the United States has experienced different waves of female liberation movements which have shaped the current female developed witnessed in the country[1]. The first feminism wave primarily focused on women’s legal rights and freedoms especially the right to participate in electoral processes. More feminism waves have since then taken place with the third and the fourth waves taking place in the 1990s…

“substantial increase in [a farmer’s] ability to earn income” “substantial increase in [a farmer’s] ability to earn income” (Danhof 5). This improvement allowed the relations between the rural and urban populations to strengthen, resulting in an increase in trade. The urban population (defined as having over 2,500 inhabitants) in the northern states increased rapidly after 1820.1 This increase accompanied the decrease in rural populations, as farmers who “preferred trade, transportation, or ‘tinkering’” to the tasks of tending to crops and animals found great opportunities in the city (Danhof 7). Trade and transportation thus began to influence farming life significantly. Before 1820, the rural community accounted for eighty percent of consumption of farmers’ goods (Hurt 127). With the improvements in transportation, twenty-five percent of farmers’ products were sold for commercial gain, and by 1825, farming “became a business rather than a way of life” (128). This business required farmers to specialize their production and caused most farmers to give “less attention to the production of surplus commodities like wheat, tobacco, pork, or beef” (128). The increase in specialization encouraged some farmers…
Evaluation of the film Little(Gordon, 2019) The film I evaluated is called Little(Gordon, 2019). The film tells a story of a successful businesswoman acted by Regina Halls as Jordan, who was mean to a lot of people around her just because she has been bullied while she was young. She had now turned out to be the bully. The movie takes a turn of events when she wakes up as her 13-year-old self acted by Marsai Martin and has to go back to school and deal with all the things she had already gone through before, but this time around, she handles them differently. The two primary characters in this film are Marsai Martin, the 13-year-old self of Jordan, and Regina Halls, the old Jordan. The former Jordan is very bossy, disrespectful, aggressive, and self-centered. The young Jordan, on the other hand, is hilarious, caring, and somehow bossy, just like her old self. Most people did not see the young self of Jordan coming back. The movie brought out the fantasy in a way that most people did not expect. The…
Music and dance are like two peas in a pod. Music sets the mood for dancing to take place. It creates the motivation that is needed for one to start moving. Additionally, music can also make one feel a certain way. This explains why it plays such an immense role in the dance. According to Veblen (243), different people seem to process music differently. Witek et al. (1000) state that dancers also tend to react differently to music. This is because their brains can respond slightly faster to sudden changes in a song. However, for deaf people, the experience of music and dance is somewhat different from the non-disabled people. While many people assume that they cannot enjoy music, it is rather apparent that they experience the music and enjoy it to full capacity. They experience music and sound differently. Nevertheless, to understand the aspect of dance among deaf people, it is imperative to understand dance as a study of movement and not just about the music accompanying it. It is also about understanding the quality, technique, time, and…
