RESPONSIBILITY AND GLOBAL JUSTICE: A SOCIAL CONNECTION MODEL* By Iris Marion Young I. Introduction In this essay, I clarify the status of claims about global justice and injustice that are increasingly voiced and accepted in our world. Such claims present a problem for political philosophy because until recently most philosophical approaches to justice assumed that obligations of justice hold only between those living under a common constitution within a single political community. I will argue that obligations of justice arise between persons by virtue of the social processes that connect them; politicalinstitutionsaretheresponsetotheseobligationsratherthantheir basis. I develop an account of some of these social processes as structural processes, and I argue that some harms come to people as a result of structural social injustice. Claims that obligations of justice extend globally for some issues, then, are grounded in the fact that some structural social processes connect people across the world without regard to political boundaries. The second and more central project of this essay is to theorize about the responsibilities moral agents may be said to have in relation to such global…

VOLUNTARY ASSISTANCE IN DYING Author’s argument Peter Singer claims that we should put to an end the sufferings by patients ‘having a high probability to die and are willing to die peacefully. As such, the author highlights that governments in Wales and The Victorian are weighing upon introducing laws and legislations to enable medical practitioners to provide voluntary assistance in dying (Singer, 2017). So, the author’s premises on his conclusion are based on the fact that we live in a pluralistic society; thus, each individual has distinct perspectives. Sub arguments The author argues that the patient should be in a position to make a careful and reasonable request to die, thus seeks to die from a doctor. In such a case, the author states providing assistance to such a patient is the easiest way of ending suffering since the individual is not willing to undergo the last days or months of the dying process (Singer, 2017). Hence, if the doctor is willing to assist in dying, it should not be depicted as a criminal offense since it was the patient’s…
Solutions for Poor Students in Toronto Like many cities in Canada and the world at large, Toronto has its share of negative attributes. One significant challenge in the city concerns the education system, mainly the prevalence of students from disadvantaged neighborhoods. Toronto can be described as the capital of child poverty in Canada since about one out of four children live in impoverished conditions (Social Planning Toronto, 2017). Education is a fundamental right to every child, but poverty hinders the educational progress of students from such conditions. In addition to RESP, there are government and private sponsored solutions for the betterment of students who live under impoverished circumstances in Toronto. Student Nutrition Program The city of Toronto established a nutrition program with the goal of ensuring that any student who is at risk of poor nutritional intake can have access to nutritious, sufficient as well as safe food during school days. Effect of Media on Children Children’s growth and development not only include physical changes but also changes in their personality, thinking, emotions, behavior, and speech as they begin to interact more with the world and understand how it works. Various factors contribute to these changes, and it is the role of parents to ensure that their children are only exposed to elements that positively influence them. As the use of technology proliferates the everyday lives of families, the media’s influence on the psychosocial development of children is significant. Parents find it difficult to control their children’s exposure to the media; hence many children spend hours in front of the television and computers and on their phones from a formative age. Although there are benefits that accrue from the media, early and uncontrolled exposure could have adverse psychosocial effects in terms of their ability to create and maintain relationships due to an impact on their attention span, social skills, and the results of cyberbullying. The influence of media on children’s development can be traced back to hundreds of years. However,…
