Dear School Board, It is with a lot of concern that I write this letter to the school’s board on the issue of inequality and low representation of teachers of color in the institution. Racism in the education sector of America is not a new social issue that has developed gradually with time but an already existing issue that has taken root in the country’s education system. Institutional racial bias has taken center stage in the country’s education system for quite some time in the country. Teachers of color from the minority communities and groups are underrepresented in the school. Although the school enjoys having a diverse group of students from different backgrounds, physical attributes, and races, the institution is racially imbalanced when it comes to the teaching staff. I believe that this is an issue that is more likely to affect the students’ well-being as well as their ability to feel comfortable in the studying environment provided by the institution. For many years, teachers from the African American, Latin American, and other colored communities were not employed by various…
language acquisition process My annotated bibliography will be focused around the language acquisition process. Since I was a young child, I have been able to speak two languages, English and Gujarati, without any problems or effort. However, when I attempted to learn a third language, Spanish, as a teenager, I struggled in every step. This made me question the acquisition abilities of children versus adults as to who is better suited to learn a new language. From my personal experiences, I have come to the conclusion that kids are superior to adults when it comes to learning a new language and expressing it exceptionally, even though they have not gained the level of knowledge that of adults. The significance of the topic I have chosen to focus on is to gain an understanding of why children are well equipped to learning new languages and when you should be teaching your kids to speak, along with which languages to speak because multilingual’s have an increased level of creativity and enhanced learning ability. So, my question(s) are as follow: Why is learning…
Scientific Research Misconduct The ever-growing knowledge and the need to find remedies for various problems in society have prompted researchers to embark on multiple studies and research initiatives aimed at addressing multiple instances in society. These scientific studies are anchored on various scientific dictates that prescribes how the scientific research practice could meet the desired threshold of what an ideal scientific research work entails. However, in a bid to access the much-coveted government funding, stand tall among peers, and attain quick promotions, some scientists engage in unethical data representation (Hill, 2016). Instances of scientific research misconduct discredit the milestones made as organizations tasked with regulating these bodies feigns ignorance about the dishonesty with such vices continuing to manifest through the fabrication of experiments, plagiarism, and falsification of data. Thus the essay would examine the manifestations of scientific research dishonesty in various instances. First, dishonesty in research works manifests through plagiarism. Though plagiarism takes different forms, one definite description of such practice revolves around using the work and other vital data of an individual researcher without attributing such information to them…
Social Responsibility, Ethics, and Law Abstract. Business ethics is a vital entity in society today. The decisions made by corporate organizations in the community can create either adverse or functional change to society. To prevent a business from misusing the society’s trust, they are business ethics and laws put in place. These ethics do not compromise the quality of the services provided by the Business but rather fulfill their commitment and responsibility to society. Businesses are not separate entities but part of the community, in this case, they must adapt and adjust their operations to the values and standards of the society. Hence business ethics draws a line between the personal betterment of corporate entities, whose main aim is to make a profit and the betterment of the nation. Social responsibility is an ethical issue that makes corporate organizations accountable for their actions. It requires the leaders of Business to consider if their actions are promoting public good that contributes to stability, harmony, and strength in society. Counselors employ various psychotherapy methods and techniques. As part of the treatment plan, counselors see the patients on an ongoing basis therefore necessitating possession of various skills for the counselling sessions to be effective. Rhetorical Analysis: A Mickey Mouse Approach to Globalization Most people around the globe have been coping with the American lifestyle. When a person interacts with anyone in the world, there are particular character traits like Watching CNN, buying coffee in Starbucks outlets, and people trying to live in the American way. According to Wasserstrom, one might conclude that products from the United States have created a homogenized global community of consumers. The author clearly states that this is a wrong mentality, and cultural aspects of globalization are complex. Wasserstrom begins by building credibility by using global products from reputable companies, reputable sources, citing convincing evidence, facts, and statistics. He successfully employs emotional appeals; however, the author has used a few companies to show credibility, but this shows a lack of enough research to make such a conclusion. Wasserstrom begins by presenting his argument using the famous Big Macs, which means differently depending on the location. One traveler claims to have eaten McDonald’s in more countries than he can count, and at the end of the day, they all taste the…
Collective Learning The term collective learning is used here for an idea that appears under different names in different disciplines (Christian 2004, 2010). Near synonyms include culture or social learning (Richerson and Boyd 2005). Although their meanings overlap, there are subtle but important differences between these terms. Collective learning is defined here as the ability of a species to share information so efficiently and so precisely that learning takes place not just at the level of the individual, but also at the level of the community and the species. The human species has crossed a fundamental tipping point in communicative efficiency, so that information can keep accumulating without any apparent limits at the level of the whole species. Already by the eighteenth century, the Scottish philosopher Adam Ferguson had grasped the importance of our capacity for collective learning: “In other classes of animals, the individual advances from infancy to age or maturity; and he attains, in the compass of a single life, to all the perfection his nature can reach: but, in the human kind, the species has a progress…
Lessons from the “International Language and Communication” documentary on how to prepare for the 21st-century workplace Gwyneth Olofsson’s, “International Language and Communication” is a documentary that sheds light on the challenges facing people in regards to learning, understanding and communicating in various international languages. I have on several occasions experienced international communication in my schooling as well as travelling and I found that communicating effectively with people from other countries is quite challenging. For instance, I have a couple of times encountered foreigners who had a limited understanding of the English langue and it was very difficult to communicate with them. According to me, Olofsson’s discussion in the documentary is very important in helping us prepare for the 21st-century work environment and in our professional careers. For starters, the discussion in the film prepares us to recognize that the world has become a global village which is fueled by global trade and travel. As such, at some point in our lives, we are going to encounter people from other countries who most likely may not communicate in our language. Once…
Language paper Living things have a certain way of communicating with each other by the use of sounds and signs to express actions, feelings, need to pass a message and actions. Among living things, human beings have the most developed language system since the human mind is highly developed. Human beings cannot be expected to have lived at any time before language existed and thus the history of human language can be dated back to the existence of humankind. Language is the tool for communication that allows human beings to facilitate the flow of knowledge and ideas from individual to individual. The misunderstanding between human beings can be eliminated by using language as an instrument to transfer knowledge between people. The definition of language as a means of information transfer varies between different groups of people, and the efficiency of communication depends on the extent to which an individual goes to add individual efforts to ensure the dissemination of intended information. Language is what a group of individuals agree to use in the day-to-day communication and passing of information. …
Application of Cognitive Load Theory in Learning Introduction: Memory According to Blayney, Kalyuga and Sweller (2015), memory tends to play a vital function in nearly every human activity. For instance, it assists in the remembrance of every type of information including individual memories, automatic procedures and common knowledge amongst others, for either a shorter or a prolonged duration. Memory is considered to be vital in the development and creation of the human personality, as it acts as the direct witness of the human pasts, particularly with regards to the episodic memory, as well as the common knowledge which arises from semantic memory and history. This, therefore, makes memory to be amongst the most vital and important cognitive roles in an individual’s life. Moreover, the different types of memory have been acknowledge to be vital in the performance of diverse tasks. For instance, even as verbal memory enables the memorization of a sequence of words and the recalling of such words later, for others, the memorization of visual information is much easier compared to the memorization of verbal information. The visual…
