Behavioral theory Introduction Behaviourism is the process of learning a person’s observable changes in their behavior. This theory can be applied in classes and classrooms when teaching students (McKenna (1995). Behaviourism is used in classrooms to determine the relationship between the actual actions by a student and the immediate consequences of those actions (precursors). One theory that will help in understanding a student’s cognitive behavior is the operant conditioning theory (Spielberger & DeNike (1966). This theory mainly focuses on how precursors of behavior affect the behavior of an individual over time. Operant conditioning theory has four primary concepts, namely, extinction, generalization, discrimination, cues, and reinforcement schedules. Operant conditioning theory further states that new practices warrant more consequences, while some results increase the chances of a particular action to occur. A good example of operant conditioning is research conducted by Alberto and Troutman in 2005, which made the following observation “A seventh-grade boy makes a silly face (the operant) at the girl sitting next to him. Classmates sitting around them giggle in response (the reinforcement).” (Smith, Press, Koenig & Kinnealey (2005).…
What discrepancies does the author bring forth regarding racial behaviours and attitudes? Give examples The author acknowledges that attitudes may not necessarily be reflected in a person’s behaviour in real-life contexts. The LaPiere study used by the author gives an account of his travel across the United States in the company of a Chinese couple, at a time when there was alleged intolerance towards people of Asian decency. Even so, he notes the courteous receptions they were accorded when they visited motels, restaurants and hotels. Questions were raised on the possibility of his presence influencing the behaviour of the staff attending to the couple. Replications of his technique in different scenarios, however, yielded similar results. The author, however, highlights settings where attitudes are directly depicted on social conduct. One being a judicial context where the jury arrives on decisions based on the thoughts of the public and, the other being legislators basing decisions to vote for or against issues on perceptions of changed attitudes. The concept of white privilege is often invisible to the whites enjoying it. What factors does…

The association of education with the American Dream Education Since the inception of the United States, citizens have lived in search of opportunities and success, which constitute the American Dream. Essentially, America is not about ethnicity, religion or nationality, but it is the idea that everyone, including individuals from humble backgrounds, can do great things. There is no better way to achieve great things than through education, which equalizes people. The association of education with the American Dream is not accurate. The system of education in America has improved significantly over the years, but still, there are ways to go before everyone can claim the American Dream. There is a notable achievement gap between white and minority students that has barely narrowed over the years. It is essential that even students from deserving communities and deserve equal opportunities to succeed in the nation (Lazerson, 2013). The other problem with the system of education in the U.S is the lack of respect for the profession. There are not enough incentives for upcoming Americans to choose the teaching profession. American teachers work…
Case Study: give and Take In my own opinion, I do not think the Harley deal was one-sided. Based on this particular situation, the parties involved sacrificed and benefitted from the agreement that was put in place. However, Harley had the option of shutting down the plant, the, move all staff members to Kentucky, whereby a better and more lucrative deal could have been made or occurred for their mutual benefit. Similarly, the union received a significant boost of seven-years subjected to the staff members who worked fulltime. The safety of seven-years happened at a time when a good number of devastating kind of jobs had no proper protection (Liao et al., 2019). Through factory modernization, some essential benefits were gained. One of the most vital interests involved the opening of more advanced and safe jobs offered to all employees. These jobs were generated through factory modernization, whereby they did not exist previously. I would vote for the presented deal due to its effects in the long-run. By agreeing and saying yes, the majority of individuals would significantly benefit based…
Educational Wage Inequality Introduction The United States wage structure is heavily dependent on the level of education as there appears to be a consistent growth in demand for highly educated or skilled workers with college degrees. Wage inequality experienced by all genders rose in America during the 1980s. An examination inclined to demand and supply structure is applied to investigate the alterations in wage composition (Katz and Murphy, 1992, p.39). Additionally, it is also deemed that adjustments of technology plus enhanced information access have a crucial role in what has become a contemporary wage configuration. The U.S. Pattern of Educational Wages In light with Katz and Murphy (1992, p.40), wage inequality amongst education and gender noted an increase in America during the 1980s. The first reason was the rise in wage disparities because of education. Secondly, wages of the older workforce increased against those of younger workers, especially for those who never attended college (Katz and Murphy, 1992, p.40). As a result of these two changes, there was a consequent increase in weekly wages of younger college graduates by roughly…
Research question: “Will a person’s education level affect his possibility of committing a crime.” There we need to understand how the crime happened in the society. Policymakers are on the lead on understanding different demographics of how crimes occur in society. Most of them want to understand the relations between crime and education. They want to determine whether the crime is education are related in any way (Brown, 2001) The research, in this case, seeks to understand how education levels in the society will contribute to the rise of crimes in the society or how it will c0ntribute towards someone committing a crime. The research, in this case, will be conducted in a school set up and will also involve the people from the public and some prisoners. Sample In this study, trying to determine whether education levels contribute to the standards of crime in society will entail several participants. The key participants that will take part in this study include ten students from a local university, ten public members, including the learned and those who did not finish their…
Effects of Bullying on the Academic Performance of the Elementary Students and Ways of Reducing Such Bullying Abstract This study critically analyzes the impact of bullying on the academic performance of the elementary students and examines some of the most effective ways to reduce this social problem facing most of the elementary students in the United States. The history of bullying dates back to the 1990s when cases of bullying become most prevalent. The existing literature shows that violence between peers, particularly elementary students, has become a widespread phenomenon whose effects on the academic performance of the victims has proven to be very detrimental. Some of the detrimental effects of bullying amongst elementary students include low self-esteem, self-harm, suicidal intention, depression, loneliness, and physical ill-health. Several prevention strategies can be implemented to reduce elementary student bullying within the school setting. Some of the possible bullying intervention strategies that can be used include multidisciplinary whole-school interventions, the whole school approach, and the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program. Methodologically, self-administered questionnaires were administered to collect data from the 220 elementary male and female…
The Right Way to Downsize American Higher Education article review Part one Rachel Lu, in her article “The Right Way to Downsize American Higher Education,” argues that the university system in America is facing challenges due to its misplaced priorities of focusing more on brand-imaging, virtue-signaling, and administrative vanity projects rather than core university functions like teaching and research. According to Rachel Lu, enrollment in higher education is significantly reducing in the United States and could potentially have a devastating impact on the competitive nature of the United States in the global market. These downsize partly due to the rising cost of university education in the country. Rachel Lu notes that investments made on amenities, administration, and athletic in universities are the primary areas that need significant downsize in order to bring back sanity into the higher education system in America. Rachel Lu concludes her article by calling for the public to take this opportunity to demand the university system to clean up their act and fulfill the function which they were founded. Lauren Weber and Chip Cutter, in their article “A…
The Education-Technology Revolution Is Coming The education technology is changing, and the new system is established. Technology is going to replace the classroom and instruction scene; therefore, we will start to see the begging of significant change were the beliefs of Sig Behrens, who is the president of blackboard INC. Behrens urges that technology has positively affected the new category of education users due to the use of technology to change in the ways they have never done before. Students would be limited to a few choices in the traditional education model delivery. Instead of students knowing what the lectures or textbooks have taught them, they should learn from each other. Technology has affected the books store in such a way that book stores are unable to satisfy its demand, for example, Boarders. In contrast, online e-commerce, like Amazon, develops a platform that enables the learner to control and the ability to come up with new ideas of their own. What is the technology revolution in education? How technology revolution influence study aids? Does computer evoke illiteracy and lack of…
