Philosophy of Teaching It is my deep conviction that learning is a process that is intended to transform people’s lives, way of thinking, and their experiences through the acquisition of knowledge skills and competencies. It is meant to affect the cognitive as well as the motor faculties of the learner to make him become a better person able to handle life challenges and solve the problems he is likely to encounter along the way. I believe learning is a continuous lifelong process that is not limited by age or locality. Different people learn at different rates depending on their mental abilities to grasp and process new sets of information and their experiences. It may be done through different ways and processes whose effectiveness again varies from one person to the other. The process is guided by different philosophies that can be applied together during a given teaching/learning process or differently for different outcomes. The classroom in which I teach is spacious enough with working surfaces at the sides that are ideal for carrying out some tasks. The spaces are ideal…
Interteaching I sat on the porch together with my dad thinking about what our “normal “ life has turned out to be with the outbreak of Covid -19 that forced us to spend most of our time at home. I looked at him, and thought of how times flies; he is now 50 years old. Why does he have to smoke? My dad is one amazing person, well I guess most girls out here say so about their dads. Never the less mine is the most amazing. I observed him for some time before beginning the interview, “Hey, father.”Yes, honey,” he replies. I immediately start asking my questions, ”Why do you have to smoke daddy. “He smiles and says,” Well kid, there’s no doubt that quitting is one of my greatest desires, but it is so hard “ He pauses for some time then continues .”I first smoked when I was 22 years old.. Well, most of my friends then were smokers. Smoking was a part of me as it seemed cool and a form of rebellion. “.So that means…
No, We’re Not Teaching Composition ‘All Wrong’ Melinda Beck for The Chronicle Review By Emily Shearer Stewart NOVEMBER 21, 2016 My students can’t write a clear sentence to save their lives. It’s my job to help them change that. I have taught writing for 10 years. Much like Joseph R. Teller, whose October essay criticizing how we teach composition riled many a writing instructor, I have “experimented with different assignments, activities, readings, [and] approaches to commenting on student work.” But my results have been very different from his. Rather than seeing my students fail repeatedly, I’m seeing more and more of them succeed. Their success may stem, in part, from a mantra I’ve taken to heart: If students consistently fail at something in my classroom, it’s not their fault. It’s mine. I teach at a community college in Texas, in a city where almost 20 percent of the citizens live below the poverty line. More than 30 percent of children in the city live in poverty. About 70 percent of my college’s students take classes only part-time, and 73 percent entered this year…
