This assumption has been overturned by the human endogenous retrovirus K (HERV-K), as demonstrated by its presence at high levels in a patient with breast cancer. The study provides a review of the article ‘Human endogenous retrovirus type K antibodies and mRNA as serum biomarkers of early-stage breast cancer’ published in the international journal of cancer in 2014 by Wang-Jonning and his colleagues.
