Bielski Brothers-Holocaust The Bielski brother is a partisan group of Jewish fighters, which was based at Zabiedovo and Perez forests. The group was initially composed of three brothers: Tuvia, Asael, and Zus, who survived after the killing of their parents and two brothers by the German in the Nowogrodeck ghetto around 1941. The brothers formed the group mainly to protect their lives and those of other family members. But, they decided that their chief mission was to save the lives of all the fellow Jews members who were the primary target of the German killers. The group acquired the strength of protecting its members by ensuring that they acquired enough guns, which they bought through the help of non-Jewish Belorussian friends. The group supplemented the arms with soviet weapons, captured German weapons, and equipment supplied by Soviet partisans. To group always sought to expand its group through facilitating escapes of the Jewish from ghettos, who later joined the group, and they searched for others on roads, who they believed might have fled to when the German attacked. The group carried…

Childhood Memories I clearly remember my childhood as days filled with joy. We lived in a small neighborhood and I enjoyed the company of my family and friends. My family composed of my father, my mother, my elder sister and my younger brother. I was the middle child. Memories that I specifically enjoyed that I still hold dear up to today are Christmas memories. Christmas was a season that brought a lot of joy in my family. My siblings and I always looked forward to this time of the year. Christmas preparations began early in my family, approximately one week before Christmas day. My father and I would go to shop for food and some decorations that we would need for the event. The stores were usually well decorated with Christmas messages on the doors walls and ceilings, some stores even had very attractive Christmas trees well decorated with Christmas lights. I was always mesmerized with these lights, going on and off consecutively, their different colors, red, green, yellow blue and orange. Every chance I got I would stare at…

Book Report: Darkwater Summary Darkwater: Voices from within the Veil by WEB Du Bois is a highly critiqued but significantly informative manuscript on racism and America’s slow acceptance of diversity. Du Bois published this book in 1920. The book contains essays, spirituals, and poems that reflect on his ideas as a historian, artist, politician, and religious believer. The book inspires Americans to participate in economic, political, and social reforms for the minority in the country. From the book, one can discern Du Bois’ passion, pain and anger towards the discrimination of African Americans. The book begins with Du Bois’ credo, where he states his belief in God, and the ‘Negro’ race. The credo asserts his belief in similarities among whites, blacks, and browns, as he understands that there is no difference in their intellect of biology. He states that he has confidence in the pride of race, lineage and self, humility and hard work in service, and the devil and his angels who strive to stomp on Black, underprivileged men. Du Bois shows discontent in the way democracy was viewed…

Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare. Twelfth Night is a fantastic comedy featuring Viola and her brother Sebastian who gets separated after a shipwreck at the Coast of Illyria. Viola is lucky to have the sea captain save her life but is afraid when she cannot find her brother in the fear that he drowned. Despite being a noblewoman, the loneliness makes her want to look for a way of living, and the sea captain tells her about the lady Olivia. However, she is mourning for her family and does not want to see anyone new. For protection, Viola impersonates to be a man named Cesario and gets work at Duke Orsino’s court through the help of the captain. Orsino likes Viola, and he makes him/her cover for his service, the Duke. This essay explains the meaning of the play elaborating on the themes, conflicts, and symbolism used by Shakespeare to convey his message to the audience. To begin with, conflict in the play where Viola mourns her twin brother being the only family is not optimistic he might be alive.…

Accident by Dave Eggers             David Egger is an American editor, writer, and publisher whose parents were John K. Eggers and Heidi McSweeney Eggers. His father was an attorney while his mother was a teacher. While he was still a child, his family moved from Boston to a suburb neighboring Chicago called Lake Forest, where he later joined high school. Later on, Egger joined the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, where he pursued a degree in journalism only to drop out of school following his parents’ death. The death of his parents opened a new chapter in his life since he had to raise his young brother and seek a way of fending for their needs. Egger later moved with his younger brother and girlfriend to Berkeley, California, where they lived with his sister before moving to another part of the town. His brother, Christopher, enrolled in a private school while Egger did freelance graphic design and temp work for a local newspaper. In 2001, his sister Beth died after committing suicide (Merritt). Egger currently lives in San Francisco Bay…

A Lesson Before Dying HOPELESSNESS- A feeling of hopelessness pervades the opening chapters, an appropriate tone for a story where someone is sentenced to death in the first chapter. Discuss where all you hear this tone of hopelessness behind just from Jefferson. Do you think that adequately expresses the African-American feeling in America at this time, or do you see glimmers of hope in the next, or can you think of the glimmers that were there historically? During the conversation with Tante Lou and Miss Emma, Grant seemed to have lost hope in Jefferson. When Grant was told that together with his aunt and Miss Emma, they should go and see Henry Pichot, whose brother-in-law was the sheriff, he said that Jefferson was already dead. According to Grant, it was just a matter of some time, and Jefferson would be dead. Grant said, “He’s dead now. And I can’t raise the dead” (Gaines, 20019). During the prison visits, Miss Emma felt hopeless because each of the three times Grant, and she visited Jefferson in the cell, Jefferson would rarely talk…

Effects of slavery Slavery is something that is rarely discussed in the modern world. This happens due to shame associated with the white families who held slaves in the 18th century. There were many effects it had on both the black and the white population. Some of them were psychological in nature some were cultural while others were purely physical in nature. This essay is going to gather those effects from various slave narratives mainly Victor Sejour’s the Mulatto which provides an account of a slave in a story that became the first fictional work by a black person. Some of the effects it had were hatred, violence and total disregard for human life. This story is narrated from the point of view of a white settler who was sympathetic to the plight of the African Americans who were forced into slavery. He talks about a slave known as George who had an African American mother and a white man for a father. He got the complete narration from Antoine who was an old man but still working on…

Shaft alignment Shaft alignment is the proper positioning of the shaft centerlines of the driver and driven components (i.e., pumps, gearboxes, etc.) that make up the machine drive train. Alignment is accomplished through either shimming or moving a machine component or both. Its objective is to obtain a common axis of rotation at operating equilibrium for two coupled shafts or a train of coupled shafts. Shafts must be aligned as perfectly as possible to maximize equipment reliability and life, particularly for high-speed equipment. Alignment is important for directly coupled shafts as well as coupled shafts of machines that are separated by distance—even those using flexible couplings. It is important because mis- alignment can introduce a high level of vibration, cause bearings to run hot, and result in the need for frequent repairs. Proper alignment reduces power consump- tion and noise level and helps to achieve the design life of bearings, seals, and couplings. Alignment procedures are based on the assumption that one machine-train component is stationary, level, and properly supported by its base plate and foundation. Both angular and offset…
