Evidence-Based Practice in Nursing Practice Evidence-based practice (EBP) is an integral part of nursing practice. It is a problem-solving approach to care delivery based on proven scientific evidence. The EBP process involves the application of scientifically proved evidence into healthcare practice. Hassan’s (2019) study observed that integrating EBP practice provides a significance of scientific research applied to support delivery of healthcare services for better patient outcome. Melnyk and Fineout-Overholt (2015) observed that EBP is an essential component for enhancing quality of care to patients in my area of critical care. Critical care is a fast paced and stressful area such as intensive care unit where patients depend highly on ventilators as breathing machines to stabilize their condition. Providing care to life threatening illnesses and injuries can be largely boosted by EBP interventions. Adopting EBP practice in my culture will improve patient safety and improved care of patients in critical areas and their families for greater satisfaction of healthcare providers. The EPB practice will also minimize the cost of healthcare and reduce the risk of harm to patients…
Discussion Prompt 1 Describe the pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, evaluation, and treatment of atopic dermatitis, impetigo contagiosum, tinea capitis, thrush, and molluscum contagiosum. The pathophysiology of atopic dermatitis is associated with several factors including IgE mediated hypersensitivity, increase in trans-epidermal water loss due to filaggrin losing their mutation functions and an imbalance in Th2 cytokines. Clinically, atopic dermatitis manifests itself in the form of dry, itchy skin on the face, behind knees or inside elbows. Though no cure exists, the condition is treated using topical steroids, phototherapy, or using topical calcineurin inhibitors (Clebak& Malone, 2018). Impetigo Contagiosum results from the action of exfoliative toxins which contain serine proteases on desmoglein 1, a peptide bond that holds epidermal cells in a molecule. This condition manifests itself in the form of red sores around the nose that burst to form a yellowish-brown crust. The treatment options are either application of mupirocin cream for mild cases while in severe cases, oral antibiotics and certain cephalosporins are used (Habif et al., 2017). Tinea Capitis results from the Trichophyton and Microsporum species of fungi. This condition…
The dissociative posttraumatic stress disorder: Treatment results cohort study involving veterans Abstract Dissociation is a common characteristic among veterans experiencing posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which influences the active treatment. The research targets to replicate the outcomes of a dissociative PTSD, and find the relational trends in survival mechanisms, symptomatic levels, severity, and to examine the effects on posttraumatic symptom enhancement. Veterans suspected of deployment-related pathology were examined by psychiatrists concerning axis I and II disorders and finished a baseline assessment. Those seeking intervention received the baseline assessment. Patients who began treatment got invitations for a follow-up cross-examination to re-examine posttraumatic reactive symptoms. The investigation involved veterans having a mean age of 39.5 years, and who tested for DSM-IV-TR PTSD. Eighty veterans began treatment with sixty-four engaging in follow-up measures. The patients received trauma-focused interventions or non-trauma-focused PTSD remedies. The medics committee granted the research exemption of ethical approval since the cross-examination was part of standard protocols and could not affect intervention protocols. Introduction Posttraumatic stress syndrome (PTSD) is a mental illness that may result from undergoing a traumatic scene. Its…

Genetic Disorder In children Genetic Disorder is a condition caused by mutation or a change of an individual sequence of DNA. Variations are usually caused by an error that takes place when DNA replicates, and they can also be caused by environmental factors, which include smoking cigarettes when one is exposed to radiation since these causes a change in the DNA sequence. The DNA in our body sends a code that led to the making of proteins, and these are molecules that perform excellent functions in the shape of a human being. If the DNA section changes in either way, then the code provided by that protein is affected, and it is unable to code correctly; hence the person gets the genetic Disorder. The following are characteristics of a child who may be suspected to have genetic Disorder Children have different eye colour Different shape of eyes Having Ear abnormalities Children having sparse Children with various facial features which are not found in other members of the family Large tongue or a small one Excess hair in the body Misshapen…
Peer review on Travis’ Paper:Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) What is PTSD: Post-Traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a psychiatric disorder formed by traumatic events that people experience. The cause may be a single event such as rape, an experience such as war or a long term experience such as domestic violence. When thinking of PTSD people often relate the disorder to soldiers returning from war because of what they experienced, but soldiers are not the only people that are affected by post-traumatic disorder. This disorder can be caused by many different traumatic events other than war, such as; natural disasters, rape, terrorist attacks, serious accidents and other violent personal assaults. According to the American Psychiatric Association (APA), “post-traumatic stress disorder affects 3.5 percent of adults and one in eleven people will be diagnosed with PTSD in their lifetime” (American Psychiatric Association). With post-traumatic stress disorder, the affected people tend to have intense disturbing thoughts linked through the traumatic event they experienced during their life and can last long after the event has finished. The American Psychiatric Association lists some ways…

Assessing and Treating Adults and Geriatric Clients with Mood Disorders Introduction According to Knight (2016), a geriatric is a person with impaired body functions with chronic diseases and physical impairment. They are mostly above 75 years of age. Aging is accompanied with mood disorders which disrupt the elderly’ later years with many of these depressive states remain unnoticed in most of the older patients. Depression complicates mental illness treatment and their management and also increases health care use and mortality rates. Between 10% and 20% of geriatric patients with mood problems also have bipolar disorders (Rosen et al, 2017). A DSM diagnosis of major depressive disorder [MDD] is used as criterion for depression. An elderly person may display sadness, disguise of irritability or withdrawal from the rest. Delusions, a mental illness which is common among aging patients with depression problems may interfere with a health officers’ recognition of a minor mood disorder. For clinicians to distinguish between depression and personality disorder requires careful and thorough evaluation of the history, signs and symptoms (Hibbard et al, 2016). A client with a…
