Evidence-Based Practice on Proper Hand Hygiene by Elena Lopez. I have noted that Lopez has identified that proper hand hygiene as a clinical issue under review by Nursing National Patient Safety Goals. I am intrigued that she has gone further to mention problems associated with poor hand hygiene, such as reducing both morbidity and mortality rates. However, I don’t agree with Lopez that absenteeism is brought by poor hand hygiene. Besides, she argues in her post that proper hand washing is a long-term goal in healthcare. I am thrilled that she has recognized the PICOT model that is utilized by the researchers while conducting a study on clinical issues. However, Lopez has failed to analyze her clinical problem based on the PICOT. For instance, she has not mentioned the outcomes of the study and the time frame. Moreover, she has started her search process using CINAHL, just like in my paper. Besides, Lopez has identified her search words, including hand hygiene compliance, timed water dispenser, improvement of hand hygiene compliance, hand hygiene knowledge assessment, among others. Her searches are exciting…

Annotated Bibliography: Assessment and understanding of domestic violence among women of color, resulting in homicides. Ashley, W. (2014). The Angry Black Woman: The Impact of Pejorative Stereotypes on Psychotherapy with Black Women. Social Work in Public Health, 29(1). P 27-34. New York: New York Press Ashley (2014) talks about the black woman and how she is portrayed in society. She narrates the stereotypes of the woman of color that contributes significantly to the domestic violence among African American families. The article is substantial in that it provides clear information on the effects of domestic violence among women of color. However, it does not give possible solutions to the problems. It will be used to highlight the issue of homicides as an effect of domestic violence in African American families. Campbell, J.C. (2012). Health Consequences of Intimate Partner Violence. Lancet, 359, (9314). 1331-36. Campbell (2012) suggests that domestic violence, sometimes, affects the mental state of the victims. It creates phobia, anxiety, and depression, among other mental illnesses. Apart from mental instability, domestic violence also leads to physical damages like broken bones…

Response to Asia Santos Hello Asia, I agree with you in your discussion. Indeed diabetes is one of the chronic diseases that cost the government exorbitant amounts of money. Drugs used to treat diabetes, such as insulin and DPP-4 inhibitors, are expensive to buy. Also, diabetic tests such as glycated hemoglobin tests and random blood sugar tests are expensive to families without health coverage. Another cost is the cost of hiring caregivers. Pradeepa & Mohan (2017), states that some diabetic patients may not be able to read and understand the medication dose or to maintain proper hygiene. Hence they may require a caregiver to assist them in their condition. Additionally, diabetes results in the development of other infections such as renal diseases and visual impairments, and this also presents an additional cost to the family of the diabetic patient. Diabetes, if not treated at early stages, may drain families economically, and there it is advisable for individuals to attend regular diabetes screening tests in order to prevent future negative impacts (Kähm et.al. 2018). The family may spend a lot of…

Policy: Cleaning and Disinfecting High-Touch Areas in Patient / Resident Rooms in an Attempt to curb the Spread of COVID-19. Introduction COVID -19 is a respiratory infection triggered by a coronavirus not historically present in humans. It is a (unique) story, first detected in Wuhan, China (Public Health Branch, Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, 2020). The spatial range is continuing to evolve ever since its discovery. Transfer of this virus from an individual to an individual occurs most often between near contacts (within around 6 feet). This form of transmission takes place through breathable droplets. Diversely, there is no previous documentation spread of novel COVID-19 to individuals from surfaces infected by the virus. Recent findings show that persons who are sick but depict no signs will also play a significant role in COVID-19 spreading (Health Canada, 2020). Coronavirus transmission happens much more frequently via respiratory droplets than via bloodborne pathogens. Existing evidence indicates that SARS-CoV-2 on interfaces made out of different materials will survive and thrive for minutes to hours to days. Depending on a preliminary country risk and vulnerability evaluation, the Healthcare…

Pros and cons of breastfeeding versus bottle-feeding Breastfeeding is the most preferred method of feeding an infant since it contains the maximum nutrients needed by the child for maximum development. In bottle feeding, the nutrients may not be well balanced, and in some cases, the infant can experience malnutrition due to insufficient nutrients. Breastfeeding is good for the mother and child because it builds up the immune system of both the mother and the child. For mothers, it reduces cases of ovarian cancer, breast cancer, and diabetes type2. At the same time, in infants, breastfeeding reduces the chances of having ear, throat, and sinus infections and also reduces cases of obesity and overweight. Breastfed infants also have reduced chances of experiencing SIDS, sudden infant death syndrome. In bottle feeding, both the child and the mother do not enjoy the health protection benefits that come from breastfeeding. Breast milk is ready for the baby when the baby is ready to feed, and it is not exposed to any germs, which reduces the chances of hospitalizing an infant. While the bottle milk…

Implementation Plan: Aspiration Pneumonia Step One: Identification of Stakeholders Managing and treating of aspiration pneumonia requires the collaborative efforts of various professionals to deliver quality care (Muller, 2015). The primary stakeholders involved include physicians, nurses, dentists, dieticians, and counselors. Other stakeholders that may be involved are social workers and public health workers whose role is to create awareness about the importance of proper oral hygiene. We will also contact the stakeholders to ensure they are available and comfortable with conducting the study. Step Two: Identification of Potential Barriers The possible barriers of conducting the pilot study are lack of cooperation from the family members. Most families may not feel comfortable with giving consent to using their relatives to conduct the research. They may fears that they will be exposed to unhealthy conditions that could worsen their conditions. To have more participants, we ensured them that information about the patients would remain private and confidential.  We will also ensure that the patients will not leave the hospital during the research period. Family members will be encouraged that by giving consent to…

Cholera

Cholera Cholera refers to a bacterial disease that causes severe diarrhoea and dehydration in human. The primary way the spread of this disease occurs is through contaminated water. The bacteria that causes cholera interferes with the normal flow of sodium and chloride and binds itself to the small intestines. The body then starts to secrete large amounts of water, and this leads to diarrhoea and rapid loss of water and fluids. The disease calls for immediate treatment as death happens within hours after a person have been infected. The modern sewage treatment methods play a vital role in helping to eliminate cholera in most countries. Countries that have been affected by war, poverty and natural disasters are at significant risk for the cholera outbreak. War and misery tend to force people crowding, and if the sanitation is poorly maintained, the cholera outbreak occurs. The various means through which cholera is transmitted include; inadequate water treatment, poor sanitation, insufficient hygiene. Individuals become infected with cholera from consuming food and water that have been contaminated with the faeces of infected persons. In…
