causes of deaths among children below the age of 5 years The leading causes of deaths among children below the age of 5 years are pneumonia, congenital anomalies, malaria, and diarrhea. According to Leung, Chisti, and Pavia (2016), diarrhea and pneumonia are two major preventable causes of deaths of children below the age of 5 years. Although globally, they have been efforts in reducing the under-5 mortality rate, they are notable differences in the under-5 mortality across regions and nations. It has been noted that more than half of the deaths of children under five years are caused by diseases that can be prevented and are curable through simple, affordable medical interventions. Strengthening health facilities to offer such interventions when required to all children below the age of 5 years will save many lives of children under five years. Non-communicable diseases, congenital anomalies, and injuries are critical issues in global children under five year’s health plan. Congenital disabilities have an impact on estimated 1 in 33 children, leading to 3.2 million infants with disabilities, which are caused by congenital disabilities…

Religion and Healthcare Sister Mary is a patient in Level 2 Emergency Department. She must have a neural examination, physical assessment, radiographs of her facial bones, and a computed tomography scan of the head. Taking into consideration that she is a Roman Catholic nun, what would be the ideal course of patient education as this woman progresses from department to department? Religion affects the health beliefs of people. Religion is a subject that individuals encounter on a daily basis since people have to adhere to the specific rules established in their religion (Arousell & Carlbom, 2016). Religion has the ability to connect an individual to the community as well as the superior authority. This connection brings psychological stability, which is healthy for the healing process. In this scenario, Mary is a Nun. This title means that Mary is a strong believer and follows the belief established under the catholic demonization. The ideal course of patient education should respect the patient’s beliefs about healthcare and the role of spirituality. As a Catholic nun, the healthcare providers should not be surprised seeing…

However, some studies approximated that American children from different age perspectives are considered obese. Children ranging from 6 to 11 years old are 15.3 percent, while 12 to 19 years old are presumed to be 15.5 percent. These statistics have presently attained considerable growth due to the increase in diseases and food-related health problems, which have evolved over decades. Parkinson’s Disease Introduction Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a neurological movement syndrome that is progressive in nature and worsens after some time. Statistics done by the National Institute of Health found that the disease affects nearly five hundred thousand people in the United States (NIH). The symptoms of the disease start gradually, but not all people suffering from it experience all the symptoms since the severity differs among various patients. The research shows the progression of the disease occurs at different speeds between different people. However, the disease progresses in five stages commonly known as Hoehn and Yahr Scale, widely used by physicians to categorize patients with the disease (Manfredsson, et al., 2018). In stage one of the disease, the signs of PD are mild and are only observed in one part of the patient’s body. During the second stage, symptoms can be seen on both sides of the body or at the midline. The third stage has characterized the loss of sense of balance as well as the slowness of movement. At the fourth stage, the symptoms of PD are…
War on drugs policies: disparity in sentencing between crack and powder cocaine During one of the most significant drug arrests in US records, the US government confiscated 16500 kilograms of cocaine valued over $1bn from a container in Philadelphia (US Dept. of Justice, September 2019). The fight on crack and powder cocaine is far from over. This war against drugs has contributed to divisive laws and regulations, like mandatory minimum sentences (Gelman, Fagan, & Kiss 2007). Mandatory minimum sentencing implies that an individual guilty of a crime must be sentenced for a fixed time instead of leaving the duration of the sentencing to the judiciary. Mandatory punishment has resulted to overcrowding of jails and has led to racial inequalities of sentences (Wallace, 2014). The fine for having 500 g of powdered cocaine was historically equivalent to having just 5 g of crack (Kleiman et al., 2011). The Fair Sentencing Act (2010) narrowed the gaps in sentences to 18:1, but the inequalities in punishment still exist, and the legislation is not retroactive. The sharp disparity in statutory drug laws has a disproportionate…
