Self-abasement and Self-confidence Various life encounters and family backgrounds largely determine self-abasement or self-confidence. This paper explores two separate narratives, including the “Trial by Kafka and Letter from an Unknown woman by Stefan Zweig.” In both stories, the protagonists present different elements of self-abasement and self-confidence. Although individuals face challenges of varying degrees in life, many researchers, psychologists, and psychiatrists agree that the development of self-abasement may lead to other psychological problems and, eventually, whole-body health and socio-economic concerns. As such, self-abasement can easily lead to poverty and begging or engaging in other immoral behaviors to support one’s life. While self-abasement occurs to some people due to religion or faith, it occurs in others because of guilt or inferiority. On the other hand, self-confidence increases someone’s chances of success in life. Notably, confidence allows an individual to become creative and innovative towards confronting life-challenges. While self-abasement often influences people to run away from challenges, self-confidence strengthens people to face challenges and look for their solutions (Franz, 2015). This document explores these two books to identify various characters demonstrating either…
physician-assisted death issues in the US The issue of physician-assisted death is one of the controversial issues in the US. Some states in the US like Oregon have legalized physician-assisted death through state acts, while others hold that it remains illegal and unethical to engage in such actions. Morality is a critical factor when it comes to this issue. Proponents, primarily religion-based, believe that nobody should be allowed to terminate the life of another person. On the other hand, opposers have a strong belief that people going through suffering can request physicians to use medical aids to terminate their life. Argument Sulmasy and Mueller, in their article “Ethics and the legalization of physician-assisted suicide,” argue that it remains unethical for doctors to assist their patients to commit suicide. Most of the journal’s arguments are based on the physician code of conduct guidelines. The article argues that most patients, when in critical suffering, make decisions that are not in line with the ethical standards of physicians. Furthermore, the article indicates that doctors should stick to their primary responsibility in health care…
interpersonal relationships The chapter on people weaves a web of interpersonal relationships and helps any reader to appreciate the differences between different people from various walks of life. The short stories all capture one’s attention in their particular ways because of how the authors use the characters they choose to put across particular intended messages. I mainly found specific characters quite interesting, and this made the reading all the more captivating. In the story, ‘The unexpected birthday present,’ Dan is the one who steals the show, in my opinion. I find his reasoning to be quite amusing. The author uses him to let us into the intricacies of how the human mind works and how different it is for different people. According to him, sex with a whore is not cheating if it helps one to better their performance in bed. The whole narration is made light and comical because of how he approaches matters and thinks. Mr. Ram, in ‘Bill,’ is a representation of the unscrupulous nature of human beings and how this can be reflected even years to…

Three Strikes Laws Introduction Over the last forty years, the United States has imprisoned or incarcerated more people than any other developed democracy. According to Lauren-Brook (2015), the number of people in correctional facilities is five times more compared to those in the 1970s. The reason for this scenario is the exponential use of mandatory sentencing legislation. Other reasons for the high numbers include longer sentences given to the offender and the war on drugs. However, at the heart of this debate is the effectiveness of the three-strikes law and if they deter crime. Critics believe that the application of these laws at state and federal levels is unfair, and one of the main contributing factors to huge prison populations (ACLU, 2020). On the other side, proponents advance that these statutes have led to deterrence in the commission of crimes, especially for habitual offenders who get paroles but still violate their conditions. Consequently, this essay argues that these laws are counterproductive in the fight against crimes and responsible for the increase in the prison population. Support for Mandatory Sentencing The…
ways to prevent CAUTI Introduction Healthcare associated infections (HAI) are the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in hospitalized patients (Edward et. al, 2016). Even though the percentage of the of Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infection (CAUTI) grew considerably in the last several years, the battle against these infections has made the difference in decreasing the number of infected patients. Populations at risk are elderly patients undergoing surgery and patients with incontinence. Among other purposes, urinary catheters are primarily used for draining urine after surgeries and for urinary incontinence (Singha et. Al, 2017), which often is the port of entry for bacteria. CAUTI is becoming a very serious issue in the healthcare industry, and really problematic with patient-family relationship with the hospital. Some tragedy to prevent this HAI is for instance reinforcing hand hygiene in the healthcare setting, maintain infection control, and the use of the of some catheter coated with 100% silicone. Search Strategy This research was done using Frostburg University library data base. To research my articles, words such as, CAUTI and hospitalized and elderly…
