physician-assisted death issues in the US The issue of physician-assisted death is one of the controversial issues in the US. Some states in the US like Oregon have legalized physician-assisted death through state acts, while others hold that it remains illegal and unethical to engage in such actions. Morality is a critical factor when it comes to this issue. Proponents, primarily religion-based, believe that nobody should be allowed to terminate the life of another person. On the other hand, opposers have a strong belief that people going through suffering can request physicians to use medical aids to terminate their life. Argument Sulmasy and Mueller, in their article “Ethics and the legalization of physician-assisted suicide,” argue that it remains unethical for doctors to assist their patients to commit suicide. Most of the journal’s arguments are based on the physician code of conduct guidelines. The article argues that most patients, when in critical suffering, make decisions that are not in line with the ethical standards of physicians. Furthermore, the article indicates that doctors should stick to their primary responsibility in health care…
Three Strikes Laws Introduction Over the last forty years, the United States has imprisoned or incarcerated more people than any other developed democracy. According to Lauren-Brook (2015), the number of people in correctional facilities is five times more compared to those in the 1970s. The reason for this scenario is the exponential use of mandatory sentencing legislation. Other reasons for the high numbers include longer sentences given to the offender and the war on drugs. However, at the heart of this debate is the effectiveness of the three-strikes law and if they deter crime. Critics believe that the application of these laws at state and federal levels is unfair, and one of the main contributing factors to huge prison populations (ACLU, 2020). On the other side, proponents advance that these statutes have led to deterrence in the commission of crimes, especially for habitual offenders who get paroles but still violate their conditions. Consequently, this essay argues that these laws are counterproductive in the fight against crimes and responsible for the increase in the prison population. Support for Mandatory Sentencing The…
ways to prevent CAUTI Introduction Healthcare associated infections (HAI) are the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in hospitalized patients (Edward et. al, 2016). Even though the percentage of the of Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infection (CAUTI) grew considerably in the last several years, the battle against these infections has made the difference in decreasing the number of infected patients. Populations at risk are elderly patients undergoing surgery and patients with incontinence. Among other purposes, urinary catheters are primarily used for draining urine after surgeries and for urinary incontinence (Singha et. Al, 2017), which often is the port of entry for bacteria. CAUTI is becoming a very serious issue in the healthcare industry, and really problematic with patient-family relationship with the hospital. Some tragedy to prevent this HAI is for instance reinforcing hand hygiene in the healthcare setting, maintain infection control, and the use of the of some catheter coated with 100% silicone. Search Strategy This research was done using Frostburg University library data base. To research my articles, words such as, CAUTI and hospitalized and elderly…

e-Portfolio – Essential VIII: Professionalism and professional values Essential VIII basically talk about professionalism and professional values, and by that we can see on one hand the code of conduct, which generally prescribes standards of conduct, states principles expressing responsibilities, and defines the rules expressing duties of professionals to whom they apply (Pozgar, 2016). On the other hand, we see professionalism as foundational of the practice of nursing, which is the demonstration of core values evidenced by nurses working with other professionals to achieve optimal health and wellness outcomes in patients, families, and communities by wisely applying principles of altruism, excellence, caring, ethics, respect, communication, and accountability (AACN, p.26). Either way when we look at professionalism or, and professional values, we see that it raises the problem of ethics which is the branch of philosophy that seeks to understand the nature, purposes, justification, and founding principles of moral rules and the systems they comprise (Pozgar, 2016). The AACN essential VIII highlights the responsibilities of practicing nursing, and the engagement of continuing learning to keep up evidence base practice. Retrieved from https://faunalytics.org/animal-research-an-environmental-perspective/ Summary The article written by Corbett (2019) mentions how using animal resources is raising serious environmental impact concerns. Corbett first starts to list the resources used in animal research, which include toxic drugs, toxic chemicals, energy and sanitation chemicals. Corbett then moves on to explain the waste production that happens in laboratories after animal tests. Millions of bodies and experimentation tools like needles, bedding and syringes are disposed of each year. She then states that the routine of this disposal is what raises serious concerns like air pollution. She then moves on to explain in detail how it is a source of air pollution which is due to the gas emissions released from the incineration of animal carcasses and laboratory supplies. The then finishes off by stating how the outcomes of animal research can be harmful to the environment, and human health especially laboratory workers and it can cause chronic illnesses in nearby populations. MODES OF TRANSMISSION OF VIRUS CAUSING COVID-19 Modes of transmission of the COVID-19 virus Respiratory infections can be transmitted through droplets of different sizes: when the droplet particles are ˃5-10 μm in diameter they are referred to as respiratory droplets, and when then are ˂5μm in diameter, they are referred to as droplet nuclei.1 According to current evidence, COVID-19 virus is primarily transmitted between people through respiratory droplets and contact routes.2-7 In an analysis of 75,465 COVID-19 cases in China, airborne transmission was not reported.8 Droplet transmission occurs when a person is in in close contact (within 1 m) with someone who has respiratory symptoms (e.g., coughing or sneezing) and is therefore at risk of having his/her mucosae (mouth and nose) or conjunctiva (eyes) exposed to potentially infective respiratory droplets. Transmission may also occur through fomites in the immediate environment around the infected person.8 Therefore, transmission of the COVID-19 virus can occur by direct contact with infected people and indirect contact with surfaces in the immediate environment or with objects used on the infected person (e.g., stethoscope or thermometer). Airborne transmission is…

the harmful effects of lacking mental health professionals Dear Principal, I want to bring to your attention the harmful effects of lacking mental health professionals, especially in school districts that serve low-income, students of colour. Many teachers and administrators would agree to the point that every school district should have at least one or two mental health professionals to help these students get through the many challenges they face in life, especially the students of colour. Research on this topic shows that many students of colour are subjected to suicidal thoughts and actions (Atkins et al., 2008). They eventually end up killing themselves due to lack of someone to assist them with the many issues they face that causes mental health problems.. First, I want to explain how the harm of lacking mental health professionals came about. It will shade some light as to why the school districts will need mental health professionals, especially in schools with low-income, students of colour. Since the slavery era, it gave rise to racism, which is still experienced by these people in the…
