HANDWASHING WHEN DEALING WITH BABIES Description Handwashing, when dealing with babies, is critical to prevent newborn babies from contracting illnesses, mostly from adults (Health, 2017). As such, I practiced handwashing when dealing with babies in the maternity ward, which was a critical exercise in maintaining a healthy status of the young ones. I was not directly involved taking care of the babies but ensured that all the surfaces were clean and disinfected. Hence, I scrubbed my hands with soap for about 20 seconds with running water and later rinsed myself with a clean towel. Moreover, the other personnel in the ward, such as nurses, were directly involved in taking care of the infants. Thus, they regularly washed their hands relative to provided procedural guidelines provided in the healthcare department (Health, 2017). Handwashing initiative, while dealing with children, resulted in zero infant’s death likely to be caused by poor hygiene. Feelings Before the event in the maternity ward, I never thought it was a requirement to wash my hands while dealing with the young ones. However, as I entered the ward,…
Health Disparities among American India population Introduction The American Indian population has struggled with the challenge of disparities in access to health care for many years. Health disparity continues to affect both the American Indian and the Native communities in Alaska (Jones, 2006). The problem of health disparity across the Native American populations is historical and is mainly propagated by the lack of proper data, poor nurse leadership, and few American Indian nurses (Bauer & Plescia, 2014; Sarche & Spicer, 2008). The disparity in health among the American Indian communities has resulted in a high prevalence of chronic infections, especially in older people. This health problem has been strongly associated with the poor health services seeking behavior of the Native Americans. A variety of factors have been associated with the health disparities in Native Americans across the Alaska region. Poverty is one factor that has been implicated as causation of disparity in access to health services. Health resource distribution remains poor among the American Indian population, particularly human resources. A previous study has shown that there are very few American…
Newborn Addiction Drug abuse is a contemporary issue in the entire world today. It is an issue of public concern that needs to be fought within all possible manners. In the video “Born Addicts: Drug-Addicted Babies in the United States,” the first instance I identified was a young mother who was testifying her drug abuse while pregnant. The mother says she at her 15 used pills. She had been in the use of marijuana and heroin during her pregnancy. It was sad that when the baby was tested for an addiction he was found positive. The doctor shows the symptoms that such a kid reveals, which among them was frequent vomiting, poor feeding, excessive sucking, sneezing, and nasal stuffiness, among many others. This shows that the increased use of drugs can be attributed to the recklessness of young mothers or parents in society. It is something that can, however, be controlled and prevented from occurring for an innocent fetus. Newborn with a drug addiction should be treated as a crime, and the victims involved need to be charged by the…
Third-Party Lab Testing: Why You Need It Today, the cannabis industry is highly unregulated. With reports of unethical manufacturers lying about the CBD content in their products, you can no longer just trust what is written on the packaging. But there is one thing you can do to ascertain the content of the CBD products: subjecting them to third party laboratory testing. What is Third Party Lab Testing for CBD? Third-party lab testing an evaluation done on a CBB product to determine its content. It is done by an independent laboratory that does not have any interest in the cannabis supply chain. In most cases, the testing is done on one or several samples of CBD product suppliers to ascertain if the content written on the label is correct. Furthermore, the tests can also check the presence of harmful content in CBD products. Why is 3rd Part Lab Testing for CBD Important When the Farm Bill amendments of 2018 were passed into law, the most notable thing was the requirement that all cannabis products should not contain over 0.3% THC.…
New Interventions and Old Practices: Paper and Electronic Healthcare Records in Clinical Practice The hypothetical situation that I look forward to implementing as the HI manager involves the use of new interventions in the healthcare setting. Accurately, I anticipate inculcating the electronic health records in the new project as opposed to the traditional paper filling paradigm. With the adoption of his best practice, there will be organizational growth in the institution. Electronic Health Records (EHRs) are information systems used in keeping, accessing, changing, and updating patients’ medical records (Rajkomar et al., 2018). Moving patients’ records from paper filing systems to computers creates efficiency for patients. Access to quality care, in this case, becomes safer and secure. The method includes the collection of electronic health information about patients. The use of EHRs is growing in countries like the UK and the US, where they separately develop methods of designing and implementing the system. Several research stances have examined the benefits of EHRs by considering societal and clinical results. Societal results include being able to achieve improved population health and better research.…
Online computer games addiction One of the adverse effects of computer technologies on society is addiction. Computer addiction bears various negative impacts on an individual. Core among them is social withdrawal. Addicted computer users tend to withdraw more from family and friends as they spend more time behind computers (Boyle et al. 2011). Relationships diminish as addicted users minimize their involvement in social gatherings as well as avoiding meetings with families and friends to get more interactive time with computers. Online computer games are among the growing factors leading to computer addiction. The Asian nations, Korea and China have seen occurrences whereby someone has died due to playing computer games for a prolonged period extending up to forty-eight hours or more. In 2007, a Chinese national died at an internet cafe following a three-day-long period of playing the computer game binge (Boyle et al. 2011). Resultantly, China, as well as other Asian countries, are enacting stringent policies that regulate its citizens while accessing these computer games and internet cafes. Also, high computer addiction levels have been realized to ripple through…
Why the Re-election of Narendra Modi is bad for India Realism holds that international organizations and other sub-states do not have real influence in another country. Realism is tied to what constitutes human nature, with a lot of emphases placed on humanity’s altruism. Due to ideological rifts and the possibility of disagreement, realism is highly expected to assist in measuring power in terms of the capability of the person in power. In India, Narendra Modi has led one of the worst government in the last five years. As the official leader of the country, some parts of the country feel neglected by the government that promised to bring political and economic reforms to transform the economy and the living standards of the people[1]. Unfortunately, there are regions within India that have felt neglected by the areas not only in development but also in the protection of their rights. Since the government has shown little efforts to protect the lives of all its citizens and some regions languish in poverty, it is just for an international organization to try and enforce…
Needlestick Injuries at Kaiser Permanente Hospital Nurses are primary victims of needlestick injuries. However, other personnel working in healthcare centers could fall victim to such risks if they handle discarded needlesticks. Damages caused by used needlesticks expose the victims to the risk of contracting viral diseases like HIV or Hepatitis B and C (Davis et al., 1996). The infection, however, depends on how deep the injury is, the amount of infected blood you have come into contact with, and the amount of virus in that blood (Healthwise Staff, 2019). With all the hazards workers in hospitals face daily, their employer organizations must acknowledge these risks and put measures in place to protect them from any harm that could be caused by such hazards. Employee health and safety should be highly regarded and prioritized. Kaiser Permanente is the biggest integrated health care provider in the United States, serving millions of individuals every year across the country in their many branches. Despite their extensive reach and vastness, they have nevertheless had cases involving injuries caused by specific safety devices. In the years…
MSC DRUG DESIGN AND BIOMEDICAL SCIENCE/ MSc BIOMEDICAL SCIENCE/ MSc PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENCE/ MSc PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENCE BMS11105 DRUG DESIGN AND CHEMOTHERAPY 2020 LABORATORY PRACTICAL WRITE-UP TEMPLATE 1. Background: G-quadruplex is units of the noncanonical structure attached to the telomeric deoxyribonucleic acid of every human. They function to increase the structure of the deoxyribonucleic (Hu et al., 2017). Moreover, G-quadruplex is useful in biological synthesis individually as building blocks or as elements used to perform various functions (Kolesnikova and Curtis, 2019). The synthesis of G-quadruplex with higher-order is also crucial for the research and manufacture of cancer drugs with limited side effects to patients. Else ways, telomerase is a repetitive ribonucleic protein at the three ends of every telomere. More specifically, a telomere is a point repetition on every chromosome of a eukaryote (Telomeres and telomerase 2020). Derivatives of anthraquinones have proved useful for researchers due to their ability to treat cancerous tumours, inflammations, malaria, viral and bacterial diseases (Nor et al., 2013). Furthermore, researchers realized that substituting amino with anthraquinones can cure cancer in human and other mammals.…
Narcissistic Personality Disorder Mrs. N’s case study is an informative illustration of patients with narcissistic personality disorders (NPD). NPD is a mental condition where individuals have an inflated sense of importance, high levels of insecurity, and a distorted self-image. Mrs. N, conforming to the description of NPD, is presented as overly aggressive, needy, and with a high sense of personal adequacy. The problem description of Mrs. N is a complex one that demands a professional approach to discern her symptoms from those of bipolar, depressive, and anxiety disorders. Her outbursts and anger are established to be chronic rather than periodic in manic episodes in bipolar disorder. The therapist also disqualifies depressive and anxiety disorder from the information that, even though she has elevated or irritable moods, the feelings are not long-lasting. Besides, the attitudes varied, and she had long extended periods without a bad temper. The therapist uses Kernberg’s structural interviews to diagnose and develop psychotherapy goals collaboratively with the patient. Mrs. N’s NPD diagnosis is established from her perception of superior intelligence, impoverished view of others, lack of empathy,…
