Behavioral thermoregulation Behavioral thermoregulation can be precise going by a study that was conducted by Michael Angilletta on an eastern fence lizard. According to the study, the rate at which energy intake can be metabolized was maximized at 330C(Manuel, 2013). After establishing the relationship between the optimal and preferred temperature of the eastern fence lizard, Angiletta embarked on exploring the relationship between the optimal and preferred temperature in the laboratory. In the lab, he placed two lizards from New Jersey and South Carolina, respectively, in a temperature gradient ranging from 26-38 0C. He would take the preferred temperature of each lizard. The results of the study showed a very close relationship among temperature, optimal temperature, and preferred temperature of the eastern fence lizards. The one from New Jersey and South Carolina showed almost similar temperatures of 32.80C and 32.90C, respectively. The body temperature taken in the field were found to be similar, at 34.00C and 33.10C for the New Jersey and South Carolina lizard respectively. Desert plants avoid the heat by exploiting some ways, reducing heating by conduction, increasing the…
Blackfish – A Critical Review Blackfish (2013) is a documentary by Gabriela Cowperthwaite – an American filmmaker, director and producer of various television and documentary films. It takes us through the controversial lives of killer whales in captivity, primarily targeting a young orca named Tilikum and its history of violence while giving examples of other similar situations that have taken place. The movie gives an insight into the deaths of three people, including one of the top trainers, Dawn Brancheau, caused by the orca all for the cause of the multi-billion dollar industry of sea parks. The film tends to be overly exaggerated and biased with some misleading information and little use of logos. However, it uses several literary techniques to get their main point across effectively – wild animals should not be kept in captivity for our entertainment purposes. Blackfish (2013) shows the theme park SeaWorld, playing out a handful of incidents that happened over almost 50 years, ignoring all the excellent work they have done. According to Michael Scarpuzzi (2013), the organisation has rescued over 24,000…
Life without parole for Juveniles Life without parole is a punishment in which a person spends the rest of their life in prison. Juvenile life without parole (JLWOP) means children convicts spend the rest of their life in prison. I do not believe in life without parole for juvenile offenders. First, life without parole does not allow the juveniles to reform and fit back to society. This kind of punishment assumes that a convicted person cannot change. This is flawed thinking because even the high profile offenders can reform and fit in society. Life without parole assumes that the offender will never fit to rejoin society. It is undebatable that the mind of a juvenile does not reason the same as that of an adult. This means that the child might have committed a crime out of naivety, ignorance, or any other reason associated with childish acts. Sentencing such children to life without parole is complete injustice because there is a possibility of them reforming and fitting in the society as their brains develop (Hechinger, 2011). One of the goals…
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans-gender community The lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community is one among the unique set of cities which is yet to be fully acknowledged and accepted as a part of the general population. This is mainly propelled by the fact that some part of the general population has not accepted this kind of relationships and thus the prejudice and homophobia that come with it, resulting in social and health problems such as drug and alcohol addiction Issues related to the LGBT community Homophobia- this refers to the various forms of negative attitudes exerted upon the lesbians and the gays due to their sexual orientation Use of some specific languages, for instance, “family” and Bill W, to mean their colleagues. This is mainly to create a sense of belonging The LGBT community has been fighting for acceptance and respect their efforts including several activist groups to champion for their rights and freedom There is also the use of specialized treatment programs for the LGB addicts to foster their sense of pride and belonging Challenges faced by the LGBT…

Addressing Ethical Conflict in Healthcare Healthcare providers get faced with ethical dilemmas in their respective practice settings. In the nursing profession, for instance, there arise many circumstances that prompt nurses to resort to nursing ethics to resolve the ethical conflicts they face in various healthcare departments (Wood, n.d.). This article entirely focusses on a case study presenting with a moral conflict a nurse practitioner faced while at work. Aspects of this case study will call for conducting an overview reviewing of the relevant ethical principles – non-maleficence and fidelity. In this paper, there is also a highlight of the risks involved for not reporting the incident, the proposed leadership approach to deal with the issue, and possible approaches to improve making the best of the situation. Nonmaleficence refers to the duty of a healthcare provider to cause no harm to others (Habib, 2019). In this case, the physician breached the ethical principle since he lied and left the nurse alone, thus putting the patients at risk to harm at the ED because no physician was left among the staff to…

A Critical Look at Assessment When it comes to education, it is essential to establish checks and balances that periodically evaluate the progress of the learner and their response to a given teaching strategy to ensure they effectively benefit from the same. Educational assessment is the systematic process of documenting and using empirical data based on a learner’s response to a teaching program. The data, in this case, ranges from the learner’s knowledge, attitude, and skills to beliefs about the particular teaching program. By evaluating the student’s response to a given teaching program in this manner, the educator will be better placed to determine the student’s learning ability in addition to refining and improving student learning. The student’s knowledge is refined by making the necessary adjustments to a particular program based on the learner’s reaction. Some programs may be too advanced, while others may be ineffective and irrelevant to the student’s learning needs, thus the need to adjust these to suit the intended effect. Some of the basic types of assessment strategies include pre-assessment, whose goal is to determine the…
A narcissistic personality disorder A narcissistic personality disorder is a mental disease-infested in one’s importance that makes one superior over others in a given environment. It involves the need for excessive admiration and attention towards oneself with the lack of compassion towards others. In most cases, most narcissists cause problems in the work environment, relationships, school, and social affairs. Therefore, this paper talks about narcissism and explores the role of narcissism in the motives and usage of different social media platforms, especially Facebook and Twitter. According to Shaun W. Davenport et al., (2014) research, the most popular social network sites used by the narcissist are Facebook and Twitter. In this regard, the two platforms link millennial narcissists to share and tag their views and feelings towards an object or an individual. Facebook has over seven hundred and fifty million users per month, while twitter has two hundred and fifty million users per month. The reason behind the disparities between the usages of these two platforms is because comments and views on twitter are less understandable compared to Facebook. The research…

Research shows that sitting for long hours increases the likelihood of suffering from common chronic diseases, including cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and early death. In the current era, many professions involve sitting in front of a computer from morning to evening, from where they go and sleep. At home, we tent to play games, chat, and watch television. Truth be told that sitting for long hours is as dangerous as smoking. The question is how to avoid sitting for long and be active. Here is a clue about how to go about it. How to break dangerous sitting habits Walk during breaks Time is precious, but you don’t have to exchange your life with it. Sitting in front of your computer the whole day, take time to stretch up.
