Paternalism in Health Care Physicians dedicate their lives to benefiting the lives of others and dedicating their existence to bettering the health field. The Merriam-Webster dictionary describes a physician as somebody skilled in the art of healing, particularly: educated, clinically knowledgeable, and certified to practice medicine. The physicians’ role in healthcare is not only to treat the patient but also to provide education to guide them on making critical medical decisions. When a physician takes on a paternalistic role, the patient’s Autonomy may not be considered; however, I believe that in certain circumstances, this may be an ideal situation. In my opinion, paternalism is not always wrong, and in some cases, it is morally permissible for physicians to act paternalistically towards the patients in their care. While it can be argued this fails to show adequate respect for the individual’s Autonomy, some people do not have the cognitive ability or educational background to understand what is an excellent decision to make for their health. The concept of paternalism is defined as the overriding of the decision making or actions of…

applying for a place to study MA Mental Health in Children and Young People I am applying for a place to study MA Mental Health in Children and Young People because I have always wanted to make a profound impact on children’s and young people’s lives by elevating their mental health through early intervention. In my current job as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant I have gained an insight into mental health whilst working with vulnerable children in year 6 who struggled with their emotional and psychological well-being due to dealing with myriad of problems. A child who suffered from a high level of anxiety that hugely impacted on her mental and emotional well-being. To support the child we kept a stress journal, talked about breaking big tasks in smaller steps. We practised positive self-talk and being less self-critical by recognising her true strengths. For students to flourish as well-rounded individuals, a happy, safe learning environment rooted in strong, core moral values must be established. [unique_solution]I pride myself on forging relationships based upon mutual respect, responsible behaviour and genuine integrity.…
comparing the prevalence of mental disorders in both FH users and non-users, and to assess the independent factors of people who visit FHs Faith healers (FHs) use religious-based practices to cure their patients of physical and psychiatric problems. Also, most people seek the help of FHs before turning to modern medicine. Therefore, this study aimed at comparing the prevalence of mental disorders in both FH users and non-users, and to assess the independent factors of people who visit FHs. The methods involved a sample of 383 FH visitors and a control group of 424 individuals aged 18 years or older. Moreover, faith healing settings and shopping malls in Riyadh served as the sampling region. Questionnaires assessed the age, sex, marital status, education, and monthly income data. Besides, data analysis involved obtaining descriptive statistics and measuring associations between categorical variables. Results indicated that higher proportions of FH users were males (63%) and singles (46%). Furthermore, the illiterate and those with primary level education were more likely to use FHs (Odds ratio 18. 8 and 3.0, respectively). Of all the disorders common…
HEALTH –RISK BEHIVIORS Sara Huisman, The health-risk behavior that individuals exhibit, such as smoking, sedentary lifestyles, and alcohol drinking, poses a threat to their health and wellbeing. Risk behaviors are associated with coronary heart diseases, lung cancer, increased rates of hypertension and diabetes, and obesity. I agree that a lack of exercise contributes to most of the chronic conditions experienced in our societies today. Coupled with alcohol abuse, cardiovascular diseases set in, obesity, and type II diabetes mellitus due to increased insulin resistance and HbA1C. To prevent these risk behavior, it requires a collaborative effort from the individual, community, and the nation. The individual should also be willing to change; otherwise all the efforts and interventions will go to waste. Healthcare providers play a significant role in the prevention of health-risk behaviors. By implementing interventions such as “in the moment education,” they need to have extensive knowledge of detrimental health effects and also preventive measures. They should consider the socioeconomic, psychological, cultural, and physical factors surrounding the individual to provide holistic patient-centered care. Re: Question-8:1: ALL Posts and Replies HERE, Please (Thanks) by Sara Huisman – Tuesday, March 10, 2020, 1:44 PM There are many health behaviors that the population exhibits which can be destructive to their wellbeing. One behavior that sticks out to me is leading a sedentary lifestyle. Lack of physical exercise can contribute to many chronic conditions such as cardiovascular disease, obesity, and type 2 diabetes (Jonas & Kovner, 2018). These are often life-limiting and sadly, preventable. If I were to create an intervention to contribute to the resolution of this issue, I would start with education. This habit generally starts at a young age. If I had the opportunity to structure a school day around being active and moving during learning, I think children may develop a new way of thinking. One article states that early behaviors, as well as educational performance, contribute to obesity and other chronic conditions (Brophy et al., 2009). Teaching our children educational basics does not need to occur while sitting at a desk. Many times, children learn best by physically interacting with the topics they are learning…
Is Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) a Real Disorder? Introduction Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Deficit (ADHD) refers to a condition whereby a child experiences differences in brain development. Differences in brain activity affect the child’s ability to observe attention, thus one may have challenges in sitting still and self-control. According to research done, it is evident that around two million children in the U.S.A have this problem. For them to cope with the situation and become successful, special care is needed for them by their parents and teachers. This paper will evaluate and determine if ADHD is a real disorder or not and understand the best method of treatment. Summary The National Institute of Mental Health proposes that ADHD is a genuine disorder that needs to be addressed delicately, and thus a child should be treated. In contrast to this, Timimi and Radcliffe differ by noting that ADHD is not a medical disorder. Their argument is based upon the basis that ADHD does not show biological causes. They further argue that ADHD is a socially constructed illness that was created by western…
