Analysis of Gregor Samsa Death Introduction Gregor Samsa is a traveling salesman, and act as the protagonist in The Metamorphosis. Gregor transitions to a massive creature and spends the rest of his life in those states. Kevin W. Sweeney analyzed the story with the aid of Competing Theories of Identity. Sweeney suggests that Gregor’s death could be seen as suicide due to his hopeless state. In his statement, Sweeney confirms that Gregory’s behavior was nothing short of irrational and threating to family members. The family isolated him, a condition that is suspected to be the primary cause of his death. Isolation of Gregor by other family members instigated him to commit suicide due to long-standing severe depression. What I think about the claim The claim by Sweeney that Gregor’s death could be seen as suicide may be valid since the protagonist had been going through severe depression due to the communication barrier (Sweeney, 2016). “Gregor finds communication with other people hard because he is unfamiliar with his voice.” A metaphysical barrier now bars him from interacting with other members. Notably,…

Fromm’s basic assumptions and the dichotomy of life and death According to Fromm, human beings have leveraged on the ability to reason because they have failed to adapt to a dynamic world and disengaged from their prehistoric union with nature in what Fromm calls human dilemma. One example of an existential dichotomy is the fact that life ends with death. However, the reason is used to cater for the fact that humans cannot adapt to death by extending life. As a result, reason sets in and the explanation is used to make people temporarily feel better about their selves and have hope of life after death. My thoughts are that Fromm’s view is accurate in his reflection of the human dilemma. The power to reason is the measure of last resort when we can no longer explain what is beyond our abilities. How modern technology has affected caused basic anxiety Current technological advancements have resulted in significant benefits, but at the same time, they have affected human attachment to nature and each other. A disconnection with nature affects the way…

Death in Venice The novel “Death in Venice” focuses on a love affair between Aschenbach, who is on holiday, an aspect which he has taken quite a lot of time before indulging in. In this nature, this feels like a great experience that has taken so much time. Aschenbach is repressed, and stodgy, which can all be described by his situation and his feelings (Gale, 2016). The crafting of the book depicts that he is out looking for an artistic inspiration that would probably work on his side to rekindle his life and dry emotions. The focus of the book is more to Tadzio, who is a young man about 14 years of age, naive and unaware of his settings. Tadzio becomes the obsession of the old man who has a strong belief that he can be an ideal partner. The old man looks more obsessed with Tadzio as opposed to being in love with him. This is a great experience for Tadzio, who has never had such an experience when it comes to love. Aschenbach is seen to be…
Clarissa experiences an epiphany, after reflecting on Septimus’ death. What truth becomes clear to her, and why is it significant? The depiction of Clarissa and Septimus in the novel, Mrs Dalloway, is that it looks at the fragmented and fluid nature of time as well as perception and reality interconnectedness throughout people and social spheres. Clarissa is presented as a woman of high society and who concentrates on convening a good party. This attribute could be interpreted as a way that she uses to affirm life and forget about death. When Septimus committed suicide by throwing himself through the window, it made the party that Clarissa had arranged to appear more indulgent that it initially was. When Clarissa goes to a small solitary room that allowed her to reflect on the suicide decision by Septimus, it is from there where she gets a robust revelation, bringing to the climax of the novel. She could see the impression of the body of the prime minister still in the room on a chair. This was an emphasis that the soul was not…
The Death Penalty Should be abolished Dees, Tim. “Should The United States Of America Abolish The Death Penalty?”. Forbes.Com, 2019, https://www.forbes.com/sites/quora/2012/10/30/should-the-united-states-of-america-abolish-the-death-penalty/#21c4213a547c. Capital punishment is the execution of an offender who has been found guilty and sentenced to death after a court conviction. The United States Supreme Court reaffirmed the constitutionality of capital punishment leading up to over 1,400 individuals executed so far. The proponents of capital punishment argue that it is an essential tool for the preservation of law and order, acts as a deterrence to crimes, and the cost-efficient as compared to life imprisonment. Moreover, retribution honors the victim, aids in consoling the victim’s families as well as ensuring the perpetrators’ heinous crimes do not pave the way for future tragedy. However, opponents such as Tim Dees posits that the capital penalty does not act as a deterrence to crimes better than punishment. If so, states that practice death penalties should have lower crime rates in crimes such as murder than those that do not (Dees). However, this is not the case. Further, the capital penalty is expensive. Dee argues…
