at what point does our self-awareness turn into self-criticism? Throughout my career, I’ve interviewed for a few positions and seemed to have a good perception of how the interviews went. In a conversation with a potential employer, they mentioned my strengths and weaknesses were congruent with what my references reported. To me, this indicated I had strong self-awareness. But at what point does our self-awareness turn into self-criticism? While working as Mock Interviewer at IUP, I would ask students what did they think they did well, where did they think they could improve upon? Almost all of these students would focus on what they did poorly, rather than list what they did positively. But what struck me the most would be how minor or small the mistakes would be. Students would list actions I never picked up. While it could be that I wasn’t as attuned to the interview, my thoughts are we are our own worst critics. Similarities of Oedipus Rex and the Death of a Salesman Oedipus Rex, the king, and Willy Loman, the salesman share similar characteristics that bring them together despite their stories being written at different times in history. The Death of a salesman is about a salesman who is vulnerable to committing suicide. Description of Project The proposed project targets to implement and evaluate the effectiveness of child-life services in three local hospitals as a prevention measure to child neglect. The project will cater to both inpatients and outpatients under the recruited hospitals. According to the developmental-ecological theory, risk factors that contribute to child neglect are linked to parent-child, family, and societal aspects. The program will, henceforth, be family-centered to address the psychosocial needs of the pediatric patients and their families. The proposed program requires the hiring of certified child life specialists (CCLS) for each of the three hospitals. The CCLS job description will include; presenting evidence-based information when liaising with other professions during treatment, plan medical coping strategies, and offer therapeutic services across the care continuum. For an effective intervention, the program intends to recruit the child-life specialist at a ratio of 1 to 15 patients.
