Response to The Author to Her Book by Ann Bradstreet Despite Bradstreet having written numerous poetry concerning her reflection, she was not willing to share the poems with anybody else. Her stand concerning sharing the poems with other people could have generated various questions among the readers, wondering why she refused a good chance that could have brought her fame. I understand the experiences she was going through; she was not willing to share the poems with anybody else since she was living in a male-dominated society where women were not permitted to write poetry. Poetry writing was only meant for the elite men. Bradstreet’s poem demonstrated the struggle she underwent while determining her abilities and virtues to inscribe a worthy book. She never believed that she could be able to write a worthy book. Reading her poems, I was impressed by her humbleness; she was not proud of her book. Despite that she had excellent skills to write an astonishing book, she was never proud of herself, but instead, felt that she was not supposed to share the book…

romantic literature through the portrayal of Werner Stauffacher’s wife This poem exemplifies romantic literature through the portrayal of Werner Stauffacher’s wife, who plays a major role in the freedom of Switzerland. Among the other poems by Felicia Hemans, this poem can be considered the one that addresses Wollstonecraft’s ideas and the importance of personal reform by women. Hemans portrays the Switzer’s wife as obedient, loving, and submissive. The wife is described as quiet, calm, thoughtful, and timid in her happiness, which addresses Wollstonecraft’s concerns that women are unhappy since their opinion or wellbeing is not considered as important (LINE). Despite having her pleas ignored, she still stands next to him (Hemans 38). The Switzer’s wife trembles before responding to her husband’s concern that the oppressor might take his home and have him imprisoned (Hemans 41). These descriptions of the Switzer’s wife are in line with Wollstonecraft’s description of the ideal woman according to an oppressive society where reform is needed. This poem can be considered an embodiment of Wollstonecraft’s ideas in the Vindication of the rights of women. The Switzer’s…

“The Red Wheelbarrow ” review The poem is an example of imagist poetry, where the speaker uses simple language and ordinary objects to convey in-depth, vivid descriptions to the reader. William Carlos only uses sixteen words focusing on a red wheelbarrow in a farm, but makes the poem to be more of sentimental meditation while using ordinary objects. The speaker’s choice of words increases a sense of wonder to the reader. For example, the wheelbarrow is not only wet but “glazed with rain water” and not just beside chickens but “white chickens” this gives the ordinary objects used in the poem a deeper poetic meaning. “The Red Wheelbarrow” has a meditative tone. The poet achieves this by stretching one sentence over several lines. Therefore, when the reader goes through the poem, he/she has to slow down and meditate the deeper meaning just as the poet wants. The opening line “so much depends upon” sets the poem’s tone as at the end of it all; the reader realizes “so much depends upon” the wheelbarrow. Imagism first appears in the second stanza…
