mind-body Dualism In discussions of mind-body Dualism, one controversial issue has been whether the mind is part of the body or is it separate. On the one hand, some argue that the brain has its own identity, ‘substance dualism.’ On the other hand, others contend that body and mind are the same things, ‘materialism.’ Others maintain that the brain is more than the sum, but the result of the make-up of the body. My view is, both mental and physical properties constitute the body. If body and mind are the same, can we call pain a brain state? Knowing the constituting elements of a substance, can we argue that we understand it? Understanding the mechanics through which our minds operate does it mean we can explain the body also? Here many maintain that, if a person says they are in pain, it does not mean this is a mental state. Therefore this would be implying that the state can be changed by only applying different stimuli. The standard way of thinking about this issue has it that whatever part of…
Vocational rehabilitation and substance abuse treatment Implications Vocational rehabilitation and substance abuse treatment staff is focused on the provision of holistic care, which encompasses alleviating the problem and helping the clients lead a meaningful life to improve their functioning. Accordingly, the counsellors are educated and ”trained to provide a wide range of vocational, educational, supportive, and follow-up services’’ (Center for Substance Abuse Treatment, 2000). Organizations target talented individuals with diverse skill ranges to handle different organizational tasks. First, vocational and substance abuse counsellor with varying training and educational levels come with diverse perspectives and models on how to solve the clients’ needs. Secondly, it supports the organization’s specialization for rehabilitation and treatment care hence optimizing the outcomes in a culturally-diverse world. However, the challenge is that a lack of standardized levels of providers’ training and education would make it hard for the organization to also standardize its professional practices and requirements on employees. Some assessors with low training and educational levels may not meet the clients’ needs and organizational competency standardized, hence making it harder for them to fit into the…
Nick Cunningham functional conflict Nick Cunningham is experiencing a functional conflict. A functional conflict can take place between individuals or groups. It positively impacts a situation and considers both sides of the story. The disagreements within a functional conflict are, in most cases, healthy. Dysfunctional conflicts describe unhealthy or harmful disputes that might occur between individuals and groups. Dysfunctional conflicts usually offer win-lose situations and not win-win situations. The above definitions demonstrate that a functional conflict accosts Nick Cunningham. From his perspective, he does not consider the forced changes relevant to the situation. The new corporation they have purchased is doing well. Nick acknowledges the fact that Beauchamp’s managers should be maintained for the new business, its performance. This argument is healthy because he prioritizes the interests of the organization’s performance despite the tight rules of the top management. This disagreement exists based on Nick’s goodwill on the organization. The cause of the conflict in this context is primarily as a result of the strict regulations set by Nick Cunningham’s superiors. The bosses are stringent on imposing massive…
Negotiation and Conflict Resolution The conflict between Millennials and Baby Boomers at Informational Systems is caused by generational differences in how each group believes a workplace environment should be. Millennials believe a workplace should allow for more flexibility and discourage unnecessary competition among employees, hence their insistence on flexible timetables and rewarding group efforts rather than individuals. Baby Boomers, on the other hand, want individual effort to be rewarded while maintaining strict work schedules. Preparation and planning As the leader of the negotiations, I want an outcome where each party accepts that healthy competition and group efforts are both desirable things to have in the organization. As a leader, I also recognize that an ideal end to the negotiations should allow for a harmonious coexistence of these two diverse groups as this increases productivity for the organization (Hoffman, 2018). The Millennials want a flexible work schedule and more emphasis on group efforts while Baby Boomers want a changed bonus structure that rewards individual efforts. Possible compromises for the Baby Boomers would involve changes to the bonus system but giving the…
Social and Communicative Development Child development occurs in different dimensions, including social and communicative development. Developmental makes a child change across three general dimensions cognitive, physical, social, and emotional change. In this article, we will deal with the cognitive domain, which entails changes in wisdom, intelligence, problem-solving, perception. Finally, language and social and emotional domain (psychosocial) which looks at changes in self-perception, emotions, and interpersonal associations with family members who surround a baby in the early stages (Kuhl, 2007). All these domains influence one another, and if a change occurs from one, it affected the other domains. We will major explore social and communicative development in infancy and early childhood and relate these scenarios to the developmental theories. Development of a child thinking is characterized by the ability to change (plasticity). Without plasticity, there can be no development of a child’s thinking, language, and behavior (Kuhl, 2007). Development is influenced by genes and the environment that the kid lives. Development in infancy occurs from birth to two years, and in early childhood, it occurs from 3-5 years of age. Back…

Multidisciplinary Diabetes Care Introduction In most cases, patients with diabetes are managed by primary care physicians, which is occasionally obstructed by limited time and clinical inertia, making it hard to attain treatment goals. It is, therefore, necessary that a new approach is developed to take care of the increasing population of people living with diabetes to attend to patients’ psychosocial and medical needs. Interdisciplinary care can be applied to take care of diabetes patients by combining efforts of practice nurses, primary physicians, and clinical pharmacists that can obtain improved clinical processes and results at realistic costs. It is estimated that people with diabetes in the United States are more than 23 million. (1) Projections indicate that the number is likely to increase to more than 48.3 million people by 2050. (1). Cholesterol control, blood pressure, and improved glycemic can significantly reduce the risk of diabetes complications. These results were obtained through extensive studies, such as the U.K. prospective diabetes study, the diabetes control, and complications trial and multiple studies on the reduction of cardiovascular risk. An evidence-based process and outcome…
Trust and Conflict Resolution Trust is the most important component in conflict resolution. It is consistently shown as a central dilemma when trying to solve a conflict. Trust is not a feeling that one party has toward another, it is an inner assurance that an individual or an organization develops. It is an expectation that another party will not harm or allow you to be harmful when you areyou are vulnerable. The willingness to trust another party is based on the kind of history you have had with the other party or your personality. Trust is a very important element in any organization, but sometimes it is broken. It is something that is built with time, and through interaction; however, it can also be broken. When trust is broken, it is not the end, it can still be repaired if both parties are willing. The paper will discuss on trust-building and repair in conflict resolution. Conflict arises as a result of two or more parties getting into a disagreement or dispute or when trust is broken. Conflict resolution entails…
Professor Emile Durkheim on the origin of religion Professor Emile Durkheim primary purpose has been to study the origin of religion through the use of relevant theories of knowledge. According to Emile Durkheim, it inevitable that religion has a real existence and the use of sociology can only explain this through outliving all the critics and the objectives that have earlier been argued against it. As a result, Emile Durkheim believes that the fact must be found like the things as there is no single sociological law or any institution based on error or falsehood can survive. Emile Durkheim answers all these questions emphasizing his point that religion has its deep roots in reality that otherwise correspond to all the human needs and wants. His way of explaining may be different in comparison to some of the reasons that have been put forward by the believer’s perspectives. However, such reason exists, and it is the responsibility of the learned to differentiate and discover them. Durkheim approaches the question of religion differently by avoiding the study of so many religions and…
