Wealth and happiness There is a popular analogy that no enough money can buy happiness. However, according to Research done on Quality of Life, wealth and materialism can cause an imminent impact on the way an individual gets happy and satisfied with life (Stieg, 2019). In other words, the perspective can be termed as; “Wealth is the capability to completely explore life (JILL, 2017).” In order to advance one’s wealth and happiness, an individual also needs to develop their capabilities and skills. According to the findings done on Quality of Life at Binghamton University School of Management, which was composed of a study population of more than 7,500 of the German adults, the emotional feelings experienced by people about money tend to be nuanced (Stieg, 2019). Essentially, there exists a significant distinction between happiness embedded in materialism and success in terms of hoarding large amounts of money. Happiness brought about by money implies wealth is an outright sign of a happy life; this tends to be negative at times, as it demands one to invest a lot of time, energy,…
Alan’s notes on Kant’s Theory of Knowledge Kant (1724-1804) tries to unite the theories of rationalism and empiricism into a new third approach to explain how we gain knowledge. To do this he starts by taking Descartes’ ‘I’ and asking what is this ‘I’ Descartes talks about so much. Kant also takes Locke and Hume’s basic empirical model of the mind as a blank paper (tabula rasa). Kant adapts Locke and Hume’s model of the mind by dividing their blank paper into sections. These sections he calls categories of the mind. He argues these categories, just like Mathematics and logic for the rationalists, are inside us from birth before we experience anything at all. In other words they are innate, as well as being universally the same for every living human being. Examples of Kant’s categories include space and time, cause and effect and substance. When the mind receives some sense information (experience) reason decides which category it should be placed in. We can understand Kant’s mind as an empty bookcase with reason as the librarian. Once reason places a…
Annotated Bibliography on Lasting effects for children born with cleft lip or palates Al-Namankany, Abeer & Alhubaishi, Abrar (2018). Effects of cleft lip and palate on children’s psychological health: a systematic review. Journal of Taibah University Medical Sciences, 13(4) , 311-318. This study aimed to evaluate the psychological effects of cleft lip and palate (CLP) on children and their parents and to determine any relationship between social support and timing of surgical repairs for these defects. Interventions were surgical corrections and/or social support, comparison occurred with children with neither surgical corrections nor social support, outcomes were psychological effects. CLP is not only connected to psychological effects which distress children’s self-esteem and psychological functions, it also extends to their parents, particularly their mothers. However, parental and social support seem to have positive influences by reducing these psychological effects. Arteche, Adriane, Bingley, Caroline, Hentges, Francoise, Bishop, Dorothy V.M., Dalton, Louise & Murray, L ynne, Goodacre, Tim (2010). The effect of cleft lip on socio-emotional functioning in school-aged c hildren. Journal of Child Psychology & Psychiatry, 51 (1), 94 103. doi: 10.1111/j.1469-7610.2009.…
Channels of Distribution Official Website One of the most effective online distribution avenue for hotels is their own websites. Even though the original development fees of the websites are high, the costs related to maintaining the websites are low. A website provides a hotel with an ideal platform to provide its customers with adequate information regarding their brands in addition to appealing to its target audience. A website can make a hotel generate high and direct sales without paying any commission to another party. The focus of many hotels is generating many bookings using their websites, which is the major reason why they offer incentives to customers who prefer direct booking(Dholakia1, Zhao and Dholakia, 2009). Currently, many customers who want to access information regarding the hotels that they want to visit use tablets and mobile devices. According to the TravelClick, the bookings of hotels using mobile devices increased by 42% between 2013 and 2015. This implies that hotels should ensure that their websites are optimized. Online Travel Agents This is a vital strategy that positively impacts on revenue management of…
Shift Towards Defined Contribution Plans and Reduced Pension Benefits in the Public Sector. Introduction In the United States, there has been an increased pressure from different interest groups to shift the public sector pension plans from the defined benefit to defined contribution. (Bodie, Marcus, & Merton (1988)describes a defined benefit plan as a pension plan where a retired employee receives a specified amount of money for life. The received amount, in most cases, will include a joint amount for the beneficiary and his or her spouse. On the other hand, (Bodie, Marcus, & Merton (1988) describe a defined contribution plan as a retirement saving plan where both the employer and the employee contribute towards the savings account for the entire period of employment. In the defined contribution plan, however, there is no guarantee of receiving retirement benefits. In the past five years, Broadbent, Palumbo, & Woodman, 2006 state that there has been a gradual increase in the number of public sector employees enrolled in the defined contribution program. Broadbent, Palumbo, & Woodman, 2006 argue that the shift mostly revolves…
Debate Question: Children of migrant workers should be eligible to take a college entrance examination in the city where they stay with their parents? Over the last three decades, the education issues of migrant children in China have led to a raging debate (Li, 2010). As the population of migrant children continues to increase, the Chinese education sector faces the challenges of improving the standards of education for migrant workers. Despite the government’s efforts to improve the primary education for migrant children, current studies have shown inequalities in the access of education, especially how most migrant children in the rural areas cannot attend public school education in urban areas. The findings of a study by Li (2010) indicated that the attending rate for rural migrants attending public schools in urban areas stands between sixty-five percent to eighty-five percent. This implies that about fifteen percent to thirty-five percent of this population do not access public school education in urban cities(Li, 2010). As a result of these inequalities, the government must allow children of migrant workers to take the college entrance…
How Environmental variables influence social well-being and social quality in the Netherlands Education is one of the most used variables used to determine the affairs of the people of the Netherlands, for it is a clear indicator for population literacy to be able to decide on those that can read and write or those that are not able to read and write. Perhaps those that are followed by the overall education attainment are clearly and currently interested in the well-being of the Netherlands, for opting out to include the expected years of education. The life satisfaction level is, however, measured here with some subjective variables. In that, we have selected three variables that are preliminary data, which are satisfied with our daily activities, happiness and life with satisfaction. In regards to comfort in our daily lives, one should, however, be happy with what one has in that happiness of the individual will be experienced, which triggers full life satisfied. Job searching is a clear consensus issue that unemployment negatively affects the well-being of the people of the Netherlands. Most…
Investments and Derivatives Executive Summary Problem All workers face a risk of insufficient real returns on their retirement savings as a result of inflation risk. Therefore, our team has been appointed by the Dubai International Financial Centre to recommend an optimal investment portfolio for expatriate workers in the UAE for their Gratuity Fund. Solution To reduce the inflation risk, our team will use the Life Stage Model (LSM) as it gives younger members exposure to classes of assets that have a higher probability of generating high real returns in the long term. For older members, their contributions are invested in asset classes that offer high levels of protection for their capital. Table 1 shows how the contributions of individual workers will be allocated to different portfolios founded upon the various life stages of the members. Individuals in the diverse portfolio stages will be transferred to the subsequent portfolio in four quarterly groups a year prior to the next life stage to ensure that they are not discriminated against by the constant fluctuations in the investment sector. Moreover, we will use…
An Ideal Work Environment A work environment has an essential influence on employee morale, job fulfillment, and team drive. Employees should be treated like shareholders in a company or organization because they play a significant role in development and success. The outcome of the employees depends on how they are treated in an organization. An ideal work environment irrespective of the size of an organization should be one that encourages teamwork, enhances productivity using technology, offers employees a chance to challenge themselves professionally, has a positive culture, and promotes equity. There are various factors that can be considered in perfect work surroundings. According to the Maslow hierarchy of needs, self-esteem, and self- actualization are factors that significantly contribute to the performance of employees (Cherry 1). When organizations concentrate on the two elements, then employees’ motivation and productivity is likely to increase. An organization that offers a perfect work environment should have a strong vision and mission statement. Workers are motivated when they know the short and long term goals and strategies since they have an idea of what is expected…
Fraud in Medicare Facilities Q.1 Medicare is an easy mark for fraudulent equipment sales because people have failed to account for the authenticity of suppliers of the equipment (Blanchard 2015). No check is done on the genuineness of the patients’ conditions as well as checking how qualified the doctors are. Ghost services are services offered by people who have no enough knowledge about what they are doing.
