theory of evolution Darwinism Today the theory of evolution is a well-supported, unifying principle in biology, which explains how life on earth began and developed. The scientific evidence overwhelmingly supports the idea that all living things share a common ancestry. Charles Darwin, a British naturalist, is the person most remembered for his contribution to how the process of evolution works. He wrote a book, published over 150 years ago, called On the Origin of Species, which was very controversial at the time. His scientific explanation of how evolution occurs was essentially correct, but incomplete. On the basis of newer knowledge, and particularly advances in genetics and molecular biology, many of Darwin’s concepts have developed into the more complete modern theory of evolution. Science and religion In the 19th century, Darwin’s discoveries made an enormous impact in England, Western Europe, their colonies, and the USA, where Christianity was the dominant religion. Darwin’s theory was seen to be in conflict with the literal interpretation of special creation to be found in the Bible in the Book of Genesis, and even today…
significance of Jerusalem to various religions The Crusades established a remarkable legacy in the Middle East, remembered for years in their first Crusade. Through their King, Baldwin 1, they built a Christian State in Edessa. However, their barbaric behavior towards Muslims would have escalated the political and cultural tension that the U.S is facing with the other nations in the Middle- East. Much of their reputation was founded on the horrific events that had occurred at Ma’arra al-Numan. The Crusaders saw the Muslims as lesser humans and discriminated against them based on religion. They started fights with Muslims and cannibalized them, men, women, and the Children. The various events that the Crusaders were involved in could get associated with the current genocide in modern European history that is one of the primary elements that have enhanced the political tensions between the U.S and other nations. Considering the significance of Jerusalem to various religions, it would be easier to understand the decision by President Trump to move the American embassy to Jerusalem. The individuals considered Jerusalem a holy land. For the…
Empirical Study Introduction This article focused on students’ levels of spirituality and how it may have an impact on their thriving. The researchers sought to understand the experiences of participants concerning their thriving, and how each participant’s institution and its programs, staff, and faculty may have influenced the increase or decrease of thriving during the semester. According to this article, the goal of faith-based institutions is teaching holistically for the students to function as a whole. This article used a mixed-method phase of a longitudinal sequential explanatory study of changes in thriving over the course of one semester from interviews with 23 students on five faith-based campuses. This article somewhat supported my topic in terms of how faith contributes to students’ engagement; however, this article did not specify whether the students were predominantly monolingual or students from other countries who speak different languages. This study had many limitations; the review was at a faith-based institution, which the authors suggested for further research to include non–religious private and public institutions and longer longitudinal. To analyze the data, the researchers used…
Circumcision Care The practise of circumcision dates back to the ancient days during Judaism. In contemporary society, circumcision has health benefits that outweigh its risks, and thus, many health programs emphasize its importance. Circumcision entails the removal of the foreskin surgically among the male population. Often, circumcision is performed at different stages, for instance, during childhood, adolescence or adult circumcision. Depending on the stages, the procedure is conducted based on the cultural, family, and religious beliefs of individuals. The process necessitates care to prevent risk for infections and other complications. Therefore, teaching individuals on the importance of circumcision care contributes to successful health outcomes. As for different teaching techniques, they play a role in providing student learning. A successful learning process necessitates the incorporation of both verbal and non-verbal presentation styles. For instance, the room for presentation for the topic ought to be conducive in terms of layout, size and resources. An excellent room presentation facilitates both engagement and interaction with the audience and hence allowing for effective teaching. The other strategy that proves to be beneficial for effective teaching…
critical discourse analysis Introduction The research is set to conduct a critical discourse analysis of the short news article in the Urdu language (National language in Pakistan). Since the publication of Norman Fairclough’s Language and Power and Ruth Wodak’s Language, Power and Ideology Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) has not only grown into a significant field of research in its own but also has been widely adopted by researchers in a range of disciplines from Biblical studies (Van Noppen 1996) to urban planning (Hastings 1999).In the overall introduction to Critical Discourse Analysis (1995), a collection of his papers written during the 1980s, Fairclough described CDA as having “passed through the first flush of youth” and “embarked upon the maturation process”. CDA has indeed sought a reputation, although it has built up formidable weaponry, and demonstrated considerable skill in using its manoeuvres. In my opinion, it has hardly if ever, advanced beyond a guerilla sniping from the margins to a successful assault on the cannon’s mouth. The main innovation incorporated by Critical Discourse Analysis is the integration of the role of…
