Effects of a Gluten-Containing Meal on Gastric Emptying and Gallbladder Contraction Abstract: The ingestion of gluten has been associated with gastrointestinal symptoms even in the absence of detectable immune responses. Little is known about the pathophysiological effects of gluten on the upper gastrointestinal tract. We aimed to assess whether the ingestion of gluten leads to an impairment of the physiological mechanisms of gastric emptying, gallbladder contraction and relaxation. A total of 17 healthy subjects underwent ultrasound evaluation of gastric emptying dynamics and gallbladder contractions at baseline and every 30 min after a standard gluten-containing and gluten-free meal (250 kcal, 70% carbohydrates). The pattern of gastric emptying was similar after a standard meal with or without gluten, but differed in terms of the peak of the antral filling curve, which was wider (mean area 5.69, median 4.70, range 3.71-9.27 cm2 vs. mean 4.89, median 4.57, 2.27-10.22 cm2, p = 0.023) after the gluten-containing meal. The pattern of gallbladder contractions was different after the gluten-free meal (p < 0.05), with higher gallbladder volumes in the late refilling phases. The results of this…
ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY on In the time of the butterflies Alvarez, J. (1995). In the time of the butterflies. New York: Plume Books. As you begin the narrative, you would start off with the summary. What was the central purpose of the study or article? What was the central research question or hypothesis or what substantive question did the author wish to address? Summarize—in your own words—the major results/findings of the study and the author’s interpretation of these findings/results. You would continue the narrative by adding an assessment. What about this source makes it a valid and scholarly source? Finally, you would use the remaining section to discuss your source’s usefulness. Discuss how the findings relate—directly and indirectly—to what you want to address in your final paper. Do these findings and conclusions seem reasonable to you? Do you have a different interpretation of the findings or approach the topic from a different theoretical standpoint than the author? Each narrative should be 150-175 words—just about this size paragraph. Grice, H. (2004). Artistic creativity, form, and fictional experimentation in Filipina…
Three-step priming in lexical decision The main objective that the article seeks to attain is to evaluate the compound cue Model of Ratcliff and McKoon as well as the distributed memory model of Masson. Apparently, the article primarily dwells on the concept of automatic priming and as a result, a comprehensive evaluation of the above models will be attained by carrying out a test for mediated priming, which essentially refers to the priming of the target words which are perceived to be indirectly related to the semantic memory. Every research work conducted seeks to fill a niche that was left by previous research studies. This study was motivated by research conducted by McNamara and Altarriba in 1988 and Chwilla, Kolk, and Mulder (2000) all of whom conducted research on the same topic. The research conducted by McNamara and Altarriba (1988) noted that the presence of direct associates was one of the main reasons why mediated priming was inherently absent. In addition to that, they were able to clearly demonstrate two-step priming using concrete and substantial evidence. On the other…
Space travel The heavens and the mysterious objects they hold have held human beings in thrall from the very beginning of time. It’s the observation of these objects that gave birth to astronomy and the never-ending discoveries of new objects and galaxies have continued to fuel the excitement. While human interest in the universe has never faded, it might be reaching fever pitch today with the possibilities of space travel that Virgin Galactic and other companies have been exploring. Space travel is certainly out of the reach for the majority but as somebody who is enthusiastic about space, you can explore and enjoy its mysterious from the comfort of your backyard if you invested in the right telescope. Perhaps what is most encouraging today is that there’s such a vast variety of telescopes to choose from. Whether you need a high-end gadget or you are on a budget, you are certain to get the telescope of your choice if you do the right research. Before venturing into the market to find the best telescope however, it is important to remember…
factors indicating excellent female fertility Every culture has a way to tell if a person is fertile and most of these theories-especially when it comes to female-are flawed. For men, it is almost self-evident. But what about a woman who carries a child and gives the body rest in between births? And does a person’s fertility determine their wellbeing? A person (male or female) who has conceived several times has to be in overall good shape. Superb fertility means the person has a good exercise regime (not excess), healthy meals, genetics on his side, and lack of certain medical conditions. Some factors indicate excellent female fertility. Note that it is not shown by one factor but a combination of several factors. They include precise predictability of your periods, other women around you syncing with your cycle, or you experience all those PMS symptoms everybody hates. Also, a clear discharge during ovulation, lack of UTIs and STIs such as Chlamydia, hormonal balance, pelvic wellbeing, and maybe you’ve gotten pregnant while using pills. One thing we notice is that most indicators of…
recommendation of Pankaj Mahendrakumar Rajdeo for the MS program in Pharmaceutical Sciences It is a great privilege that I am writing a recommendation of Pankaj Mahendrakumar Rajdeo for the MS program in Pharmaceutical Sciences at your prestigious university. Pankaj has worked as a Clinical Pharmacist intern at Photon Scan, a Radiodiagnostic center located in Nagpur, for the better part of about six months, and I have found him to be both a kind and hard-working individual. His knowledge of and passion for Pharmaceuticals is exemplary. During his internship as a clinical pharmacist, I was his instructor and assigned him the tasks and monitored his progress. Pankaj was active in asking questions and seeking solutions to problems, and if he encountered problems or made an error, he dared to admit the mistake, take responsibility, and immediately seek to rectify the situation. Throughout his time in this position, Pankaj consistently strove for excellence. I was particularly impressed by his strong communication skills while recording patient history. Part of his internship mainly involved the preparation-sterilization, storage, filling, and labeling of contrast media used…
Color Priming and Forewarning Part One The study hypothesizes that participants who were given instructions in red ink performed worse on the anagram task than the participants who were given instructions in green or black ink. The null hypothesis was that the performance was worse for the individuals whose instructions were given in either green or black. The independent variable for study one was color manipulation where the recording was done on Red, Green, and Black. The independent variable has three levels to be considered for analysis. The dependent variable for the study is taken as the belief of the participant. The dependent variable had three levels just like the independent variable. The researchers predicted that the ink color used by each of the participants did not affect the outcomes. After the analysis of the results, the researchers concluded that the anagram performance was not affected by the ink color. Study two was based on the hypothesis that forewarning alone was capable of increasing the anagram performance among the participants. The null hypothesis for the study was that forewarning alone…
The Color Purple Purple is the second most common Freemason color after blue. It is a symbol of royalty, and it represents the royalty of Biblical characters like Hiram of Tyre and King Solomon. Principles of physics Physics is the most fundamental science as it explains phenomena in the world around us, the world inside us, and the world beyond. It is arguably one of the sciences that challenges our imaginations using Einstein’s concept of relativity, electromagnetism, the string theory, and its application in the development of technology such as in the discovery of computers and lasers. Such techniques have transformed different sectors such as engineering and medical field with applications ranging from cancer treatment, Joint replacement to development of sustainable energy solutions. Medical profession The branch of physics, also known as medical physics, applies principles of physics to healthcare. It involves developing tools and treatments used to treat human beings. Medical physics is divided into many other branches, each applying a specific principle to ensure its efficiency and effectiveness. Such branches include medical imaging, radiology, and nuclear medicine. Some other applications in equipment such as ventilators work by taking into account the knowledge from fluid pressure and pulse frequency. Additionally, advancement in medical technology would not have been possible without the principles and…
