Resistance and Rebellion to Early Spanish Conquest and Colonization (1492-1550 Resistance against the Spanish conquest started with the killing of Spanish troops and the destruction of fort La Navidad, in 1493 mandated by the Taino cacique, Caonabo. The Taino people were depicted as peaceful during the Spanish invasion, but they did not sit around as the Spaniards destroy their country. Columbus was in charge of the conquest of the Taino. He left Navidad under the custody of his men. The local people were thought to be destitute of weapons and cowardly as they walked naked. When Columbus returned to Navidad, he learned with shock that Taino killed all his men in a revolt that spearheaded by Caonabo, chief of the Maguana, which is cacique in the heart of the Island (Altman, 21). The reason for hostility and the revolt was the activities and behavior of foreigners on the Island. The Spaniards stale local people’s properties, raped women and underage girls, and the awareness that the powerful Spaniards intended to remain in the Island formed the cause of the revolt and…
The difference between Idealism and Materialism Most people can’t clearly distinguish Idealism from Materialism. Well, in simple terms, Idealism is a philosophical term that stipulates an idea precedes the matter that means the existence of matter depends on the idea existence. On the other hand; Materialism specifies that a matter precedes the concept that implies the presence of the idea is because of the matter. Materialism in philosophy asserts that all things can be described in respect of the matter, or the concept that wealth and goods are the most valuable things. For instance, relating love to material things such that one would value their new phone over friendship. In addition to these, Idealism is having a strong belief and confidence in pursuing a vision. For instance, it believes in saving the world. This article’s paper will illustrate the critical difference between the two philosophical terms and how they relate to modern science. Materialist philosophy stresses that its primary objective is neither the Idealism nor the idea but rather the physical world. It emphasizes society’s material condition and the daily…
The High Life of a Socialite’s Daughter Part 1. Introduction My childhood is perhaps the most interesting part of my life story. Sometimes it baffles me how I am able to remember so much about things that took place so long ago. In many ways, my childhood captures the fundamental aspects of my life and the greater dimension of who I am as a person. In telling my roller-coaster-like life’s story, I have to take you back to when I was a child. I was born into a family that was a bit crowded; I grew up in a family of seven. That said, this was also the best part of our family because it meant that there was never a dull moment. I am the last born of 5 children, which makes me lucky number five. My siblings are three brothers and a sister. Throughout my childhood, I was the baby in the family, which meant that I was the center of all the attention. My siblings and parents would take me everywhere, which was nagging at times, albeit…
The Influence of a Church Setting on Christian Identity The Influence of a Church Setting on Christian Identity by Hyeok Joo on November 30, 2018, provides an identity study of how the church environment can be constructed to influence identity to the churchgoers in terms of coming to terms with their Christian identity. The identity of these groups of people is sociologically consequential in the sense that the people who identify with this identity do so because of favorable treatment from others and a feeling of goodwill that comes from associating with this particular member in the church environment. The people come to make strong bonds through friendships and relationships they can associate with each other in the church environment. The identity of this study is based on the social context of a church environment where the members associate with each other to form an identity of Christianity. The author states that the environment constructed in the church environment is what enables a person to identify as a Christian. The church is the main venue that the author has used…
Short narrative: Living with one’s mistakes As we grew up, I remember a common phrase that was used by our parents and teachers “live in such a way that you will never have to regret over your past.” The idea behind it was that whatever we did as young children would follow us into our future. This was the story of June, my elder sister’s best friend since they were in elementary school. She was almost like a sister to me because she spent most of the time with my sister at my parent’s home. She was well brought up and disciplined, too; to some extent, I can say that her character was quite exemplary. I even remember the many times she brought me gifts for my birthday and took me to the park for fun. June was indeed a kind soul, a friend who became more than a family for my sister and me. However, this did not continue for long because after they joined the university, we stopped seeing the two of them together as often as before.…

Since we key in and show personally identifiable and so much knowledge, it is crucial to implement and preserve computer protection. It is because reliable computer protection means that people’s data is keenly managed and safely stored. Therefore, to set up my newly purchased computer to prevent unauthorized access or risk to vulnerability, I would consider measures that would avoid these cyber threats to my system. To improve the security of my computer, there are some critical steps that should be considered to enhance the safety of the computer system. Even though no individual action can eradicate all the danger, these in-depth defensive strategies, when used together, they should improve…
sleep apnea sleep apnea is a sleeping disorder in which breathing pauses and resumes while one is sleeping. There are three types of sleep apnea, and they include; obstructive sleep apnea, central sleep apnea, and complex sleep apnea syndrome. Obstructive sleep apnea is more common and happens when the muscles of the throat relax. Central sleep apnea occurs when the brain doesn’t send the right messages or signals to the muscles that control breathing. Complex sleep apnea syndrome happens when one has both obstructive sleep apnea and complex sleep apnea. The most common signs and symptoms for sleep apnea include; loud snoring while sleeping, episodes when one stops sleeping, gasping for air, and awakening with a dry mouth. Headaches in the morning, insomnia, feeling excessively sleepy during the day, and increased irritability are signs and symptoms of sleep apnea. Some of the risk factors associated with sleep apnea are being overweight, neck circumference, where people with thick necks are likely to have narrower airways and family history of the condition. Males are more susceptible to sleep apnea as opposed to…
Operant extinction Operant extinction refers to the elimination or suppression of previously desirable behavior by eliminating the stimuli that facilitated the occurrence of behavior (Lattal & Lattal, 2012). An excellent example of a behavioral aspect that I had previously exhibited and consciously suppressed was picking my nose using my fingers. Even though I cannot trace how I started the habit, I know that I used to associate it with clearing my nose and respiratory system as a whole. However, after joining Middle School, I quickly realized that the nose-picking habit was undesirable and even downright disgusting to some of my classmates. Since I did not want to run the risk of attaining a nickname coined from the behavior, I quickly resolved to stop it and succeeded after a period of two months. Describe how the extinction contingency played a role in the discontinuation of this behavior. The extinction contingency was critical in defining the start and the progress of stopping my nose-picking habit. This was possible since the positive stimulus of clearing my nose using my fingers that reinforced the…
Boundary Issues and Dual Relationships Introduction Boundary crossing is the violation of the usual and deviation from the norms. Boundary crossing is an issue of significant concern in various professional fields, mainly when it entails the exploitation of clients. A dual relationship is a situation whereby there exist multiple associations between the clients and professionals besides the area of specialization. This relationship leads to questioning, especially when there is a conflict of interest between the clients and the professionals. This discussion thus aims at determining whether these practices are ethical and appropriate. Boundary crossing and Dual relationship Professionals must understand the need to maintain safe, professional boundaries with their clients (Baca, 2011). There is a need to draw clear cut lines between the vulnerability of clients and the authority of professionals. Specialists often take advantage of their clients’ lack of knowledge or personal relationships to get a chance for exploitation. These are unethical practices that are inappropriate. However, if the dual relationships develop to benefit both the professionals and their clients, they are morally accepted. The bonds are thus deemed…
Ethical Issues in Qualitative Research Various ethical issues do arise during qualitative research. According to Sanjari et al. (2014), the researcher’s potential impact on the participants, and vice versa is a major ethical issue in qualitative research. Researchers spend a lot of time with the participants to observe and build rapport with them. However, sometimes the researcher’s interaction can increase the risk of bias from the participants or the researcher (Sanjari et al., 2014). For example, the presence of the researcher can alter the participants’ behavior. Also, cross-cultural differences can impact how the researcher interacts with the participants. If the participants come from a different cultural background, the risk is higher (Orb, Eisenhauer & Wynaden, 2001). For example, if the researcher dresses or talks in a way that the participants consider disrespectful, it negatively impacts the research process. Another ethical issue is confidentiality. When collecting qualitative data such as through personal narratives or telephone interviews, confidentiality can be compromised. For example, another person, such as a family member, may overhear the conversation (Sanjari et al., 2014). Informed consent is also…
