Loss of Identity and Privacy In the book “Jennifer Government” by Max Barry and “1984” by George Orwell, the authors write about the extreme types of government they live in and the dystopian society that comes from it. In Jennifer Government, Max Barry focuses on the idea that the big individual US Companies and Corporations are controlling nations and countries all over the world and the government has little to no power over them, making it an intense libertarianism government. While in 1984, George Orwell has created a totalitarianism government that is ruled by Big Brother and consists of three branches within it and eliminates anybody who may go against government beliefs. However, both books are similar because individual identity and privacy is taken from every individual due to the manipulation and fear from the different hierarchies. Jennifer Government is an alternate reality book in which a United States dominated global government is controlled by corporate entities, causing loss of identity within one’s own true self and beliefs. At the beginning of the story Hack, a low-ranking member…
socioeconomic status and class identity Discussion Questions When working with a client of different socioeconomic status and class identity, it is common for psychologists to make certain assumptions. For instance, poor people do not work. During psychotherapy, I may assume and cite unlivable minimum wages as a contribution to poverty, which is not true since a lot of poor people today are working. Psychologists also often think that poor people have more problems than their wealthier counterparts. Clients of low socioeconomic status may be concerned about insufficient food, or other issues that wealthy clients never mention. Therefore, I may assume that such are problems of social work and not psychotherapy. I may also consider behaviors, for instance, when a client misses’ appointment, to be resistant to treatment, which is likely to be due to transportation obstacles. In a Journal of clinical psychology (2013), psychologists revealed common stereotypes of poor people as lazy, violent, and dirty. There are certain personal biases I would need to process as a psychologist. For example, I tend to approve information that aligns with what I…

Name: Instructor: Course: Date: Hospitality in Religious Rituals: The Eucharist vs. Hajj Introduction The Eucharist is a ritual in Christianity that is believed to have been instituted by Jesus during the “Last Supper” by giving wine and bread to his disciples at a Passover meal. Jesus directed his disciples to always celebrate the Passover in his memory. He described the cup of wine as “a new covenant in his blood” and the bread as his “body.” On the other hand, the Hajj refers to the Islamic pilgrimage that all Muslims are expected to make to the city of Mecca at least once in their lives and to depend on their financial position and health. The focus of this essay is to analyze how these rituals from the two Abrahamic religions (Christianity and Islam) shape the worldview and character of believers by comparing Rowan William’s chapter of “The Eucharist” in his book Being Christian to the chapter “Mecca” in The Autobiography of Malcolm X. Summary of Writings In The Eucharist chapter, Williams describes the Lords’ sharing table as a place for…
Good vs evil in Candide by Voltaire According to Voltaire, people are not born evil. This aspect is evident in Candide’s life, where he struggles to do good despite occasions where he harms. Despite being raised in the royal house, he was considered as a bastard by his uncle, the German Barron, because he was his illegal nephew. Despite his innocence, he was deemed unfit to marry the baron’s daughter although they loved each other since he was his illegitimate nephew. This perception and treatment of people shows that evil does not exist independently but instead develops as a scapegoat due to the limited view of the world. In this case, every time he faced a challenge to what he perceived as the best thing to do, he was tempted to do evil actions to avoid the situation. Based on the story, there is a difference between the penchant of doing evil and the tendency towards choosing evil. When Candide meets with Pangloss, he teaches him the concept of optimism. This concept involved the belief to do good despite…

IDENTITY IN THE NEW MILLENNIUM Identity describes who or what we are. It bases on psychological, biological, or physical elements of life. Cultural identity represents our everyday behaviours related to how we speak, dress, move, or act based on our cultural environments. The need to have an identity is common to every human being. It is, therefore, essential to evaluate how popular cultures shape one’s identity based on who they are, in particular. We answer the questions of how different elements of culture, such as race, gender, sexuality, social class, influence our identity. We also evaluate how behaviors such as dress codes, modes of expression, or some actions tell of who we are. In the past, cultural identification was based on defined gender roles. Cultural behaviors were categorized for the two genders, males and females. Aaron Devor, in his article “performing gender,” describes that being male or female dictated what expectations, based on their cultural standard. He goes on to explain that males were perceived to be masculine, aggressive, and egoistic, while females were seen to be passive, submissive,…
