The intent for The Statue of Liberty Upon going through these two articles about the Statue of Liberty, I did realize that its purpose changed over time.  This is because the primary intention of the artist was to place it near the Suez Canal, then it changed to New York to be used to symbolize the spread of liberty across the globe.
