tax free weekend in Texas Every August, Texas has a ″tax free weekend.″ School supplies and school clothes can be purchased for a few days without the addition of Texas′ 6 1/4 % sales tax – which, around Houston, is really 8 1/4% because of the additional penny for the City of Houston and the additional penny for METRO. What about college textbooks? Have you priced them lately? Ours isn′t too bad (free, right?), but some of my students pay nearly $300 for some science and engineering books. Representative Terry Canales (D-Edinburg) wants to cut college students in on the action before each regular semester. Go to the Texas Legislature′s website, https://capitol.texas.gov/Home.aspx (Links to an external site.) and look up House Bill 21. Hint: Make sure you use the little pull-down menu to select the current legislative session (86R-2019 – that′s the 86th Regular session of the Texas Legislature) and type HB21 in the search window. What do you think? [unique_solution]Write a 2 – 5 page essay explaining this bill and the problem it′s trying to solve. Explain the advantages…

Banks cut deposit rates to 3-year low Banks reduced interest to 40-month sub inflation low in December on customer’s savings, showing the impact of doing away with controls amid growing profits. Data from Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) shows the average saving interest drop to 4.02 percent, which is the lowest since 2016 when it was 3.79 percent. The interest rate on saving was 4.31 percent last year, while the inflation rate was 5.2 percent. The interest rate recovered slightly to 4.2 percent in February this year. This shows a significant difference when compared to 2018 when the interest rate on saving was an average of 6.37 percent, which was way above the average inflation of 4.67 percent. However, interest paid on large deposits from loaded clients who usually have room for negotiation reached 7 percent for the first time since last June. It was an average of 7.11 percent in December and 7.06 percent in February. The latest cut on deposit rates paid to savers was when the bank’s pre-tax profit grew by 4.99 percent. Rising prices will reduce demand if consumers are able to find substitutions or alternatives, but have less impact on demand when alternatives are not available (Kramer, 2019). Carbon Tax

Carbon Tax The carbon tax is the fee that the government charges on the combustion of carbon-related elements such as natural gas, oil, gasoline, or coal. The burning of these abundant carbon fuels produces greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and methane, which causes global warming by heating the atmosphere. The carbon tax purpose is to show the real cost of combusting carbon. The carbon tax is majorly used by economists to lower and ultimately discourage the burning of coal-based fuel that significantly leads to global climate change (Dinan, 2012). Economists view the carbon tax as the only way to have the carbon-related fuel users get charged for causing climate damage by producing carbon dioxide to the environment. A carbon tax, if raised high, economists view it as a powerful monetary tool that enables the users to move to other clean sources of energy available. The cost is incurred by the companies and consumers to pay for the external effects they cause on the global Climate. Economists view the carbon tax as a good policy because it lowers the…

Evaluation of a program Evaluation of a program refers to the use of social research procedures to systematically investigate the effectiveness of social intervention programs. The social evaluator uses various methods of social research for study, appraisal, and to help improve essential aspects of the plan (Rossi et al.). This situation includes the diagnosis of related social problems. In most instances, the policymakers who fund organizations, the managers of the programs, the taxpayers, and other interest parties tend to establish the effectiveness of an application. They have the interest to know how important such programs are. In so doing, they must find the answers to essential questions, including the nature and scope of the problem (this relates to the location and its effects on the society). Besides, they must evaluate whether the identified results justify the implementation of a new approach or to modify or expand the existing ones. Moreover, the evaluators must determine the best intervention that can be applied (Rossi et al.). Finally, the identified response should be that which reaches a large population, the cost and the…

Taxation of International transactions Introduction Taxation refers to money collection from involuntary levies. It is a government function which is compulsory. It applies to individual incomes, capital gains and estate taxes. Taxation happens both domestically and internationally. In international taxation, tax levies are deducted in accordance with tax laws of different nations. The taxing procedure varies from one government to another. This makes it difficult to determine a general procedure that can be used to levy international taxes. Instead, the taxes are levied with respect to the measures of income generated from economic activities.  For example, the net income presented by accounting transactions such as profits from gross incomes and gross margins (Charles and Robert 2011). Tax laws, impose income levies more on business enterprise than on individual earnings. The jurisdiction suggests that all business entities be taxed in a uniform manner for all types of income earned while individual levies are taxed with respect to the sources of income and the amount earned as well. Many tax laws pertaining enterprise taxation emphasis on double taxation where an enterprise is…
