When I matriculated into university, it never crossed my mind that, at some point, I would not even graduate. It is now coming to my attention that I may not graduate, especially if I do take necessary precautions. University education is a journey that comes with several challenges that a student should be prepared to face and overcome. Right now, a majority of students are focused on seeing their names appear on the graduation list in the end. However, sometimes they forget that their names can miss in the graduation list if they do not do some things right.

The four most prominent challenges that I think can make me miss in the graduation list are procrastination, time management, low self-confidence, and a positive attitude. These three challenges are a significant threat to my academic life, mainly if I do take appropriate action to correct them. Information Technology is one area that requires complete dedication of time. Procrastination has been hurting me in many ways, like delayed submission of assignments. Procrastination has made me pile work, and this has caused me a significant amount of pressure. I got fears that I continue procrastinating; I may not graduate at the right time.

Besides, I see myself as a bad time manager. I have been procrastinating because I am not a good time manager. In my view, if I do not procrastinate, I will be able to manage time and tasks without any pressure. Poor time management is likely to cost me if I will not take appropriate action. I need to look at time management to solve the problem of procrastination.

Nevertheless, I got also a problem to maintain a positive attitude. In some scenarios, I fail to maintain a positive attitude, especially when faced with pressure. There is nothing as unfortunate as academic pressure. In so many instances, academics come with the stress that can discourage someone from focusing on important things. Sometimes, I feel like giving up and allowing things to happen the way they come. My failure to maintain a positive attitude is one colossal danger that is likely to make it impossible for me to graduate. In the same vein, I do lack the self-confidence to drive my motivation, especially when faced with other challenges. In some situations, when I encounter difficulties in my studies, I lose self-confidence, which is critical in the derivation of intrinsic motivation. Information Technology is the right major, and that is why I picked it. However, there are some instances where I encounter difficulties in my studies. I think such challenges lower my self-confidence. In essence, procrastination, poor time management, inability to maintain a positive attitude, and reduced self-confidence are a threat to my academic journey. They are likely to make it hard for me to miss out on graduation, which in all honesty, I do wish to have.

1) Procrastination

– It is an avoidance of doing a task that has to be completed within a particular deadline.

-It is an intentional or habitual delay of beginning or completing a job even if one knows adverse consequences.

2) Poor time management

-Doing things unplanned or without observing time strictly.

-Doing things at a late time.

-Not observing time

– Acting lazily or goofing about at a time, one is required to engage in a serious activity.

3) Inability to maintain a positive attitude

– Maintaining a negative disposition/feeling.

4) Poor self-confidence

-Lack of motivation or self-drive to engage in essential things.

Section III: My College Success Plan

I have to overcome the above challenges if I have to succeed in my studies. Before I begin a new semester, I will make the right decision to help me overcome the challenges mentioned above. After knowing that these are challenges that are likely to dent or prevent me from achieving my academic goals, I will take a bold step to resolve them.

Procrastination-According to Jaleel work and rest is one vital psychological principle. Sometimes, a person can procrastinate due to inadequate rest. If a person can work and take a good rest, they are likely to have a peaceful mind. A person who has a relaxed mind without stress can focus and do things in the right way. Going forward, I will concentrate on working and having a good rest, which generally is good for my psychological health. According to Weinberger et al. (p.2), a good rest is healthy for an entrepreneur. This can be contextualized in this case. If I rest correctly, my mind will be relaxed. With a relaxed mind, I will be creative in managing my tasks appropriately, and that will help me solve the problem of procrastination.

Poor time management- To solve the unfortunate time management problem, I will use the simple to complex principle. This is not a problem that a person will address in a single day. Time management is a skill, and a majority of people fail in life due to the inability to manage time properly. This principle requires that I, first of all, look at simple things that could be wasting my time. When solving a problem, it is crucial to take a few steps before addressing the primary issue (Wei & Yunchao et al., p. 2314). In this case, the simple thing to do is to stop wasting a lot of time on Fifa and social media. I will not completely stop playing Fifa or using social media, but I will fast begin by reducing the amount of time I spend on these activities. The complicated step would be remaining consistent. I will work hard to stay consistent in how I manage my time so that I do not spend much of my time on Fifa and social media.

Inability to maintain a positive attitude- An attitude is a disposition or attitude that an individual develops toward something. Control is the psychological principle that would help me to develop a positive attitude (Carver, p. 139). When I make proper choices, my sense of control is likely to increase. In a personal assessment, I think I have not been able to control my attitude correctly, and that is why sometimes, things fall apart. Going forward, I want to have a stronger sense of control of my attitude. I sometimes develop a negative attitude towards some of the things we learn, especially if the pressure is unbearable. However, since I am going to be in control of everything that happens in my academic life, I will be able to overcome a negative attitude and develop a sense of control of my feelings.

Reduced Self-confidence- By hook or by crook, I must improve my confidence for me to succeed in my studies and graduate with a good class. I intend to improve my self-confidence by applying the psychological principle of reward expectancy. This principle would always remind me of the kind of results; I seek to achieve in the long run. I am sure that if I stay confident and believe in myself or abilities, the reward would be a successful academic life that will end up with graduation. Therefore, I will be guided by the desire to achieve good results. This is going to motivate me and boost my self-confidence.

Section IV: Summary of my college success plan

Going forward, I plan to use a work-and-rest strategy to succeed in my college education. I realized that I do not get enough rest because of Fifa and social media. In this strategy, my goal will be to have a good rest that will keep my mind awake and focused on my studies. My next strategy is dubbed simple to complex strategy. This strategy will be used to eliminate simple things, but nonsensical things that eat into my time. I will use this strategy to improve my time management and increase my concentration on vital issues that will benefit my studies.

Lastly, I will use control and reward expectancy strategies. The control strategy will help me control my negative attitude that, in my view, is likely to cost me in my studies. The reward expectancy strategy will be used to improve my self-confidence. In essence, all these strategies have been derived from psychological principles. If I properly utilize them, I will be able to perform exemplarily well in my studies and graduate without delay.
