Specific Time of encounter Change and conflicts associated with it
There was a change in the management of our team unit when I used to work as a marketing officer in a brewing company. I was promoted to be the marketing manager of the same group, after the previous one being developed to be one of the top managers in the organization. As thenew marketing manager of the branch, I started initiating many rules as well as new ways of carrying out our marketing jobs. The previous manager was a conservative person who conducted a routine way of doing our jobs. He was polite, friendly and ready to guide the juniors on how to carry out successful marketing of the many brands of alcoholic drinks. There was a personal friendship between the previous and manager and the employees, and in fact, they related like a family.
The new rules were strict and tight for the whole marketing unit. I advocated for online marketing with less fieldwork. Conflicts between employees and the manager resulted from embracing technology; some fellow workmates felt they were too old for change, and they will instead work using early procedures. I felt like not to accepts these rules also, but I realized the company had to embrace technology in its operation to maintain competition with other companies. I needed to grow in marketing work so I had to accept the change of the new management in our unit, by asking for assistance directly to the previous manager of how I should go about it.It’s difficult to accept change and move on immediately you need time and support to move on after a change
Challenging Stages of Change
As the new team Manager, it was challengingto convince everyone to learn to do marketing online using their mini-computers, Desktops, and laptops as the company demanded to keep pace with other competing companies. It was difficult for me to learn how to use the internet in marketing alcoholic brands. This was because I wasn’t good with computers since childhood, it was very difficult to design andadvertise the brewing company’s brands using my own created social media yet the company had given an ultimatum of two weeks to change our system of marketing. As the new manager, I had to be severe and strict while at the same time observing consistency in online marketing. I was also a junior employee before the management tasks in the unit, so it became apparent difficult to ask older employees for any assistance as I felt they would start disrespecting me and insubordination. I couldn’t hire experts to take me through the demanded procedure of handling online marketing due to financial constraints. I wasn’t a computer expert, and therefore, hence it wasn’t very easy to use a laptop or a computer for online marketing. But it was necessary to embrace technology to carry out successful marketing for the brewing industry as the company demanded.
How to navigate Changes now to avoid conflicts
I chose to enrol in private studies to learn how to create an online social media page to do the required marketing. Other companies have already migrated to this form of marketing, and they are doing fantastic. As competition continued, I had to hire experts to teach my team how to access the company’s website pages and conduct successful online marketing for the company. I had to be strict with other older employees so that they could concentrate on service delivery rather than engaging in accusation discussions on why they had to choose me as their leader despite my age. They felt as if they had more experienced than me. Change is inevitable, to be able to overcome new challenges is by only accepting it by doing things abiding with the rules and regulations of the current world. The only way to avoid conflict related to changes in an organization is through accepting the change and work tirelessly to understand the ways of overcoming it through the task with competency. As a leader, you have to engage your juniors in holding an open discussion on how to go about the new changes while avoiding any supremacy battle that may arise between you as employees of the organization.
Leadership Role On change and Conflict Management
Leaders have to accept Changes that may come up within structure and the everyday business activities in an organization. As leaders in society and managers in the community, they should be at the forefront in accepting change but carefully no to arise conflicts with those who need time to realize the necessity of change in society(Rahim, 2017). Business and organization should embrace change as it’s the only way to sustain in high market competition. But as leaders of an organization, one should manage the employees well to avoid cases of conflict of interest as a result of challenges of change.
