Chapter 11: The Virtue of Faith: Answering Big-Picture Questions
I have gathered a lot of knowledge after studying chapter 11. One thing that would forever stay in my mind as far as the chapter is concerned is discovering that all humans greatly desire to know the truth based on the ‘way things are.’ As such, human beings are always seeking the truth, and part of this includes knowing big-picture (Mattison III, 2008, p.214). There is the saying ‘we walk by faith not by sight,’ embraced by all Christians. As far as this is concerned, it becomes imperative to remember that faith is not just a notion that some individuals hold unto when it comes to challenging times, but a significant element to all human life on planet earth. It is that strong belief that also helps people to believe well regarding the answers to what is identified as big-picture questions. As illustrated in the chapter, human beings not only seek the truth but also live by faith (Mattison III, 2008, p.221). In marriage life, for instance, spouses believe in each other without having to look for all sorts of evidence or reasons to do so. Similarly, all Christians firmly believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of the living God. It is worth remembering that how every individual is raised, to a great extent, shapes their big-picture beliefs. As the author, argues, believing happens to be a human activity that ends up becoming a habit when done consistently. As such, Christians across the globe highly believe in an entirely different set of answers to big-picture questions (Mattison III, 2008, p.221). In this case, the main question worth being considered is, ‘What makes up a good habit with regard to believing answers to big-picture questions? Despite this, it is proper to realize that faith can be perceived as the habit by which people believe answers to big-picture questions.
