Chemical Engineering
Engineering has wide dimensions, including electrical, mechanical, genetic, and chemical engineering, among others. Engineers have been considered to be the important people in the society for mitigating some of the problems faced a day to the other. They tend to deal with the technical and practical dimensions of life. Due to industrialization, the world has been characterized by many diseases caused by environmental pollution. This has brought the need for a lot of the medicines (Darby, 52). In addition to that, many of the things in the food, drinks, and other important fluids need knowledge of chemical engineering. For that matter, chemical engineers have been viewed as the important people in the field of maintaining the health of the society as long as the chemical reactions are concerned. This paper has, therefore, analyzed chemical engineering as a broad topic.
Currently, jobs related to chemical engineering are many in the whole world. Taking, for example, in the United States of America, the ministry of defence needs the chemical engineer. The Hexion Company is also seeking new recruits with the knowledge of chemical engineering. Sunland Chemical firm is also seeking for the employees who can blend, and work in preparing the soft drinks. After doing the research, there are more than one hundred jobs currently related to chemical engineering. They include making the drugs, preparing the foods, mixing the reagents in the industries, and making the soft drinks among other jobs. The minimum requirement for most of the chemical engineering is the undergraduate degree holder.
In my field, the chemical engineers do things such as making the food, drugs, mixing the reagents in the plant, and also making the beverages. Generally, a chemical engineer is involved in the field of manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, design, construction, petrochemicals, food processing, and any other field that calls for chemical reactions. This means that the field of chemical engineering has a wide job market.
The engineers in my field can work independently, small companies and also in large companies depending on the task. In most cases, chemical engineers mostly work in large factories which need chemical attention. Chemical engineers can also work in small companies as long as they need the chemical reactions for its activities. An individual with the knowledge of chemical engineering can open up a firm where he or she can work. Such business may involve the preparation of the beverages and, the other businesses which involve the chemical reactions.
The work environment for chemical engineers is mostly done in the office. In all the factories, there must be a department of chemical engineering where all the testing of the chemicals should be carried out (Cirujano, 52). Most of the chemical engineering knowledge does not only entail the practical work but also understanding the whole concept of the chemicals. Chemical engineers are taken as the important people, especially to the control bodies, and they are considered to check if the chemicals used are good the health or not.
The chemical engineering field needs a person who is good in the science discipline, especially good in chemistry. In addition to that, he or she should be good in mathematics so that he or she should be able to balance the chemical quantities to come up with good products. For that matter, I ensure that I put more effort in the field of chemistry and also practice mathematical concepts which relate to chemical engineering.
Just like any other field, chemical engineering may require one to further education in order to understand the new concepts which he might not understand. Doing Masters and the PhD in chemical engineering increases your chances of the job market. Many industries assume that the more you are educated, the more you know many things concerning chemical engineering and thus you would add value to the company when you get employed. With the Masters’ and the PhD, you will be able to learn many things concerning chemical reactions which the person with the undergraduate degree would not be able to understand. The Masters’ level will also help one in doing the research hence helping in the field of invention.
To become a competent chemical engineer, there are things which I have to improve on. First, I would start the extra classes of the chemistry lessons and also attend the fieldworks related to chemical engineering. I will also have to improve the mathematical concepts related to chemical engineering. With the two concerns, I will understand everything in the field of chemical engineering and improve my market value as long as the job market is concerned.
From the above information, it can be noted that chemical engineering is a wide topic that has wide job market. Chemical engineers have mitigated several problems related to health, food, and also the economic crises. The paper, therefore, answers the important prompts related to chemical engineering and how the field should be handled like the other fields of engineering.
