A functional health system is a concern of all countries in meeting the rising needs of its population. The United Nations charter states that health-care is a necessity that each government must avail to its people at all times. Global governments have invested resources in availing the facilities its citizens resulting in a massive growth of the sector in the world economy.

The United Arab Emirates has also been progressing to issue an exceptional health-care to its population and to address needs and challenges that arise. For example, the force of the lack of residents has attempted to establish and negotiate a state of equilibrium on supply and demand (Insead Centre, 2019). Its health department has preserved permanence despite challenges that arise. The goal of the health-care sector in Abu Dhabi is to invest continually in the industry to initiate a universal state in doctors, specialists and infrastructure to accommodate the growing demand.

The health department structures of the United Arab Emirates vary from the health structures of most countries, for example, policies and regulations facilitate operations in the health sector of Abu Dhabi and Dubai (Isean Centre, 2019). Two crucial entities have been established in the health industry in the United Arab Emirates. Firstly, is the health ministry that is in charge of managing and operations all that involves the health needs of its citizens. Secondly, is the Dubai Health Authority, Dubai Health Services City Free Zone and finally, the Health Authority of Abu Dhabi. Each body is tasked with a function like registering health and medical service providers and oversee the market under its management.

Chronic Kidney Disease

Chronic Kidney Disease is described by the glomerular filtrate rate (Egfr), whereby a person’s kidneys are damaged and cannot conserve to filter blood at the usual level (National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive Kidney Diseases, 2020). The damage is gradual, and when it occurs, the waste piles up within the body. The kidney is responsible for removing residues and excess water from the body in the form of urine. The kidney also balances minerals and salts that are often present in the blood to maintain an equilibrium state on how the body functions.

Chronic Kidney Disease affects anyone; however, diabetes, heart-related diseases and high blood pressure patients and people with a background of persons who have suffered kidney failure are more prone to be affected. It is difficult to know if one is suffering from the disease. The nature of the kidney is that its symptoms are not easily noticeable.  Kidneys are capable of performing their functions in maintaining a healthy body. If one kidney fails, the remaining kidney can succor an individual throughout his life (NIH, 2020). Kidney damage also starts with no noticeable symptoms and it slowly advances from stage to stage. The visible signs of kidney damage are cramp of the body muscles and dry skin, chest pains, decreased or increased frequency of urination and oedema, which refers to the swelling of the legs, feet or ankles. Oedema occurs when the kidney is damaged, thereby releasing extra salts and fluids.

The burden of the Disease

The widespread of End-Stage Renal Failure has led to increasing demand for measure and dialysis. Reports show that in every one million, 400 people are likely to be suffering from chronic kidney disease. Adults record 100 persons in every one million people yearly. The record adds that in the Emirates there is a growth rate of 8 to 10 percent yearly with 260 adults being diagnosed with kidney failure, higher compared to the prevalence rate in Western Europe and North America.

Chronic kidney disease is a burden to most countries globally, although it is a non-communicable disease. More than 95% of patients in Abu Dhabi go for dialysis only if it is urgent. The costs, morbidity and mortality rate is also high. Mortality is indirectly proportional to the glomerular filtration rate. The record also adds that early dialysis saved the government a United Arab Emirates 234,000 dollars, meaning that early recognition of the chronic kidney disease financially benefits both the health ministry and the patient. Studies prove that dialysis can be prevented or delayed in 80% of the patients who have escalating chronic kidney disease. If the condition is detected early enough, there is a possibility to contain the escalation of the disease, thereby decreasing the chances of cardiovascular morbidity and deaths. The health ministry of the United States could save approximately 9 billion dollars if there is a drop in the reduction of the functioning of the renal.
