The central principle necessary for individuals and society is getting rid of the corrupt system and not the individuals in government. Destroying the whole system will create room for creating a proper balance within the community.
Mulvane argues that the end of a movement does not justify the means used in the process. He argues that immoral and destructive ways will not result in moral and constructive purposes. Moreover, means must be pure as the end. The principle of non-injury advises that students must, at all times, refute from causing injury upon one another. This principle has both internal and external points of view.
The obvious point of view means that individuals involving in resistance must avoid any form of external physical violence. (Mulvaney) They should not have guns, so they do not retaliate with physical violence. If they get hit in the process, they avoid external physical abuse at every point. Besides, they should prevent internal violence of spirit. Mulvaney regards suffering as a powerful tool when people willingly accept violence on themselves. Individuals involved suffer creatively since these individuals do not earn for the suffering; the feeling becomes redemptive and may serve to transform the social situation.
Modern-day protests base on violence: an example, Antifa, which is a secretive activist movement operating in Portland. The goals of the Antifa group is campaigning against authoritarian, xenophobic, and homophobic actions. They usually clash with conservative marchers, which results in injury and death.
MLK is right because regardless of whether protests are peaceful or chaotic, the end i still achievable. Therefore, there is no place for violence in demonstrations.
