Climate Crisis Research Essay
Introduction
The climate crisis has become more frequent and intense the world warm; there is a rise in sea levels, temperatures rise and prolonged droughts. Climate crisis is referred to as the serious problems that usually caused or is likely to be caused by the weather changes. The consequence of climate may become catastrophic when human don’t do something about it. Social activities mainly cause climate change. The land has been converted from forest to agriculture by people burning fossil fuels. The burning of fossil fuels and a vast area of land from wood to farmland was started during the industrial revolution. Carbon dioxide, greenhouse gas is produced by the burning of fossil fuels. The climate issue is unsustainable and is created by the current industrial growth. Greenhouse effect which is provided by the greenhouse gas, which impacted to warm the earth than its surrounding. Human-induced climate change is mainly caused by carbon dioxide. This climate change is a shift of weather conditions like change in temperature, precipitation and winds. There are natural factors that can affect the climate of the earth, such as volcanic activity and solar output. The toxic fumes emitted from coals and wood is harmful to the health of people and animals. People can have asthma, lung cancer, heart disease and stroke, which is caused by toxic fumes. Climate change leads to damaging business and infrastructure and flooding of farmland. Individual may lose their habitat and contaminates diseases. The climate crisis and environmental degradation challenge the economic growth and employment of today. Climate change can lead to the displacement of workers and damage business sectors. Climate crisis has positive effects such as the creation of new jobs which adapt to climate change and measures to mitigate greenhouse gas. Worker’s hour and days are lost due to the heating stress of workers by rising of temperatures. In the study is know that the climate crisis is caused by the individuals but is not a political issue is a moral and spiritual challenge to all humanity. There are ways that workers can do to address the climate crisis; workers should buy stocks in a cleantech company. In the company, workers should implement a carbon-neutrality commitment (Marx et al., 2017). The workers should let the industry knows that they care for the environment, and they should advise the company to invest in renewables and don’t include fossil fuels. If the workplace does not invest in renewable, they should join hand and start divestment campaigns, for example, join local youth-led Canada movement like Our Time and Fridays for Future Canada. Workers should address the workplaces to implement clear plans to reach setting science-based targets of reducing harmful carbon emissions. Workers in the company should fire up their commitment to the employers and other workers by acting every day on the understanding that we are one with nature and providing the purpose of less consuming that produce few emissions. The working hours should be reduced as part of the efforts to address the climate crisis. The UK, Europe and we mostly support this. The workers should use the programmable thermostat during summer so as they can reduce heating and cooling emissions.
The economy depends on sectors that are adapt the natural resources and climate. The following are sectors which rely on the economy, energy, water, transport, tourism and industries. Infrastructure and economy could be damaged when greenhouse gas emissions are not curbed and start to adapt (J Park, 2018). The sectors such as agricultural, forestry, fishers and tourism could be disrupted whenever there is a rise of temperatures, a rise of sea level and climate change this is as warned by The Fourth National Climate Assessment. The climate crisis can lead to an increase in demand for energy because the generated power will become less reliable, and the supply of water will be stressed. There can be disruption in trade and supply chain when different countries are affected. In the U.S, the economy could lose due to the climate crisis, second only to India (Marx et al., 2017). When flooding occurred, the critical infrastructure is at risk because it could result in loss of assets in a million dollars. When heavy precipitation becomes familiar as the atmosphere warms the inland military bases near rivers are also vulnerable (Marx et al., 2017). The climate crisis is likely to increase the rate of maintenance and repair for roads, infrastructure and equipment, which could cost more million dollars (Harris, 2020). As a sea-level rise, the communication network can be affected. Lack of lifeblood of global information network will affect the low rate of production efficiency. The extreme temperature will result in loss of wages because it is projected to cause damage of labour hours. In the tourism sector is also likely to suffer losses of billion dollars (Harris, 2020). Toxic of More frequent and intense algae blooms can cause the rise of water temperatures and water quality (Harris, 2020). However, tourism is likely to be discouraged due to more frequent and severe wildfires which can worsen air quality. Deforestation caused by the rise of sea level that s submerge small island and the coastal area will affect the tourist to be less attracted, and this will affect the economy of the country (Calma, 2020). For business and financial market, the climate crisis impacted by threatening in a variety of ways. Supply chain operation and factories can be damaged by the frequency and intensity of climate change. The production cost and cost of raw material an increase due to the drought, which makes the water more expensive. Company is likely to deal with uncertainty in the price of resources for energy production, transport, and insurance as a result of the climate crisis (Calma, 2020). Also, the market for some product is lost; for example, coal mining equipment is no longer in the snow area. The bottom lines of business are affected as the competitors are favoured by the new regulations like carbon pricing and subsidies. The climate crisis is likely to ruin company reputation.
The climate crisis can also have positive impacts like providing business opportunities. The companies are said to generate over trillion dollars in new business prospects. The Carbon Disclosure Project reported this. The green buildings, resilient and energy efficiency is likely to produce more opportunities for those people with professionals (Harris, 2020). They will be the growth of the electric transit sectors and hybrid and electrical production when there is a climate crisis. There is a significant advantage of the opening of trade because of the Arctic Sea Ice Melts and introduction of new shipping lines which cut the transporting time. The oil and gas will be drilled as a result of the warming of the arctic. The air conditioning and cooling product will increase high demand and supply. The new crops are introduced by the Biotech company where this crop resist to the climate crisis (Harris, 2020). Due to the outbreak of diseases such as malaria and dengue, the pharmaceutical companies are likely to supply the drug to combat this disease with a high rate (J Park, 2018). The marketing of satellites and radar technology will increase as they monitor the climate crisis. Lastly, the security services may expand and also the market for equipment used by the military will increase the demand.
I prefer the government to come with a solution that will impact the workers. Such as they invest in resiliency measures. The government should make sure they have improved the worker’s health care and moving them away from harmful ways of the climate crisis. The Green new deal as an ambitious plan that workers used to address climate crisis should be affordable. The investment is needed to investigate whether company such as bank and fund are vulnerable to climate change (J Park, 2018). A worker should look for new business opportunities and search for new places or companies to work in whenever there is a climate crisis. Workers should relocate the exposed settlement and company—the use of new climate-friendly technology by the workers in workplaces. A working house should be low so as the workers can produce good productivity (J Park, 2018). The workers are likely not to lose income and other adverse effects of climate change as they are displaced and create skills development. The workplace of workers should be legally framework, to relate with objectives of labour and ensure they are adaptive to the climate crisis.
Conclusion
We should have a different international action against global warming. The preferred measure should be the transferring from the cutting down of trees in the forest searching for fossil fuels and adapt the clean alternative source of energy. The workers should show the interest of nature by joining hand to protect the environment. The climate crisis has both negative and positive impacts on the environment. Workers are most likely to be affected by the climate crisis. The economy and infrastructure can be damaged and cause the country to lose a large amount of money and productivity. The efficiency of workers is affected due to the climate crisis, and this has a tremendous impact on the company’s output. Measures that are adapted can offer opportunities and climate-resilient in the workplace. New industries can access a new market, as they are offered a comparative advantage to emerge. The greening of workplace practice reduces the number of resources needed by workers for sound production.
