College Admission Appeal Letter
Dear Dean,
This letter is a formal request for you to reconsider my application at USC. My application was rejected last month, and the reason for the decline was that my SAT scores were not appealing . I am appealing with the hope of reinstatement for next semester. I am grateful for the opportunity of presenting my appeal. I understand that most admission decisions are final, but I had had extenuating circumstances which I believe would be worth a few minutes of your time. I hope that after reading the appeal letter, the school management will see how determined I am to join USC.
When I sat for the exam, my father had passed away, thus leaving me to support my mother, who needed someone to help her get her life back on track. I am the only child, and i felt obligated to help her at that time, so I was unable to study. I knew my scores were low, which is why I retook the SAT exam. I was able to study and improved my scores. My quantitative score improved from 550 to 740 and my writing section improved from 530 to 750.I understand that my new scores are above the required score as per the school’s policy, but I hope you will still consider.
Other than my improvement in scores, I have gained experience in community work through an extracurricular activity that I took part.I enrolled myself in a program that educated and supported the youth in my community. Through this program, I was able to interact and learn more about people and what their lives is like. I believe that this experience will be valuable to your school. As a teenager, it is sometimes difficult for us to push ourselves and achieve something. But my determination to make the best that comes out of life gave me the reasons to push myself beyond the limits.
Besides, I have always been a go-getter. I never give up on achieving whatever I want. During last spring, I was selected to represent my school in the science fair projects that were taking place in my school. Since it was my first time, I found it a bit scary but never the less I accepted the offer. I worked tirelessly, and eventually, my project on “environmental conservation earned the best price. My hard work and determination earned me a chance to present my idea to some investors in April. My achievements made me realize that we should never give up, regardless of the situation.
I understand that getting an opportunity at USC is competitive. I believe that USC is the best option for me to attain a college degree. In as much as USC discourages appeals, I am hopeful that the school will consider the new information I have provided in the letter. I know it is rare to have an application overturned, but under these circumstances, I felt I should try. I would greatly appreciate your consideration, and I promise to work hard if granted the opportunity. Again, I understand why you did not consider my application, but I have high hopes in this appeal. My first visit to the school created a good impression on me, and it will always remain as my dream school.
Sincerely,
