“COLOR BLIND” VS “COLOR BRAVE” VIDEO ANALYSIS
Many are the times when people pretend not to notice what takes place in and around them. Probably out of fear of the circumstances which may befall then out of the exposure. Being ignorant and pretending everything is working normally however does not make the situation any better. Instead, it worsens the situation. Mellody Hobson, an African-American business woman points out some serious issues out of acting “color blind” in her video, after she realized that people were pretending not to notice how racism had become rampant in America. There was a lot of discrimination towards the black Americans by the white Americans. According to Hobson, the victims were supposed to be color brave instead of being color blind. This is because being color blind did not mean that there was any fairness but rather meant they were ignoring the problem.
In real life situations, according to Hobsons point of view, in case of any problem the solution should be creating awareness of such a problem rather than hiding it and assuming everything to be working normally when the case is the opposite. This is simply because keeping quite would just fuel the problem and make the consequences more severe. It is therefore an awakening call to all the activists and brave people to stand firm against any evil activities taking place in the today’s society and condemn the actions by first creating awareness that those evils are real. In that way, they will be acting “color brave” instead of being “color blind”.
To sum up, this acts as an awakening call to all human rights activists. Solution to any evil activities taking place in today’s society has its basis on crating awareness to the affected. As the first step, it first of all makes the victims appreciate that the problem exists. Out of recognizing that the problem exists will make them vigilant in the struggle fighting against the actions. This is what Hobson referred to being “color brave” rather than keeping quite as if everything was working as usual, being “color blind”.
